I was a musician living fist to mouth when I first spoke with Chris about a lawsuit that was brewing. She didn't know me at all, but took my call and advised me out of the goodness of her heart. Then, when I got dragged into this bogus lawsuit, she took me on pro bono and worked like it was the most important case of her life. Her communication, research, and knowledge of the law was THOROUGH, and I can confidently say that not only was she the smartest lawyer in the room, she was also the most respected. We thought we could handle our own work-for-hire contracts, just simple stuff anyways… until we got successful and then things got ugly. Another attorney tried to fix it, but only dug a deeper, more ambiguous hole. Then the litigation threats started and we felt sunk. Christiane fixed it all, but not without extreme finesse and careful maneuvering that showed us just what a REAL Attorney looks like! Tomas is an excellent lawyer. I had an unfortunate running with the law (racial profiling) that resulted in some trumped up charges. Tomas was low key, calm and collected. I can't speak highly enough about Valerie. First off, she's an amicable person. I know that doesn't count for much in a world governed by law, but just her tone of voice is so comforting. And it's nice to have a lawyer you feel like you can trust. She is a professor @ Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. So if that doesn't scream credibility, then I don't know what does!
Let's get down to business: Valerie knows everything regarding music law. Period. End. You will never need to retain another lawyer. And she's honest! I feel like most lawyers just want quick money. But her rates are surprisingly quite reasonable. I highly doubt you'll find another lawyer with rates as competitive as hers, who will put the same amount of time and energy into your case(s) as she will.
Valerie helped my band with trademarks, copyrights, professional name searches, and so much more. Seriously, without Valerie we probably would have made a several major mistakes upon entering the music industry. She helped us dodge & squash all of that, along with a few red flag issues we were having with our former recording studio. I've learned so much in the process as well. As a result, I'm more aware, and I feel like a better musician now.
Valerie doesn't offer free consultations. BUT the pre-consultation form is pretty much a free consultation in itself. I like it because it asks you questions that you may not have even thought of yet because you've been focused on making music/booking gigs. For example: your goals, your concept, if you have a manager/agent, your creative process, copyrights filings, etc. It gets you really thinking about the overall bigger picture. And it helps Valerie get to know you or your band better. From there, she can help guide you in the right direction.
I remember my consultation with was 2 hours long. We literally covered at least 10+ different things extensively over the phone. I couldn't remember some of what we discussed the next day, but I was SO happy when 2 days later she emailed me a professionally drafted follow up consultation document that contained everything we talked about in detail. It had a glossary, and everything. Just like a book. She even included a to do list, ha! That consultation was worth every single penny! And I still reference the follow up document every now and then when I need to.

I worked with a previous lawyer a few years ago that was horrible! I was referred to Christian Legal Society and found Mark . I actually talked to him last and on the day I was ready to make my move on getting custody of my daughter. After our consultation I knew he was our man. He is very knowledgeable about family law. He walked me through all the steps we would be taking and was honest about our chances. He was so easily accessible throughout the whole process. I would call or email him and he would get back to me promptly if I didn't reach him. I live in Texas and when we went to court I was granted custody of my daughter on the first day! I flew to Las Vegas immediately and was greeted with Mark at the airport to ensure the exchange went smoothly and to meet face to face for the first time. We talked for a while like we had known each other for years. He also helped me get my daughter enrolled in school following our return to Texas. I would recommend talking with Mark before making any decisions on attorneys, he is a great guy. I will continue to use Mark for in the future if we ever go back to court. He is a stand up, honest family man in my opinion. And most importantly he is a faith based God fearing man, which I respect most of all! Ms. Lewis has been extremely helpful with some difficult legal situations that required a thorough understanding of our various counterparts. Ms. Lewis not only guided us through difficult negotiations but also offered numerous suggestions on how to best approach our licensing agreements and contracts. Our agreements stretch over years and occasionally decades and have significant consequences for the future of our business endeavors. Ms. Lewis has been instrumental in avoiding many pitfalls and made our exchanges with the other party a little easier. I would highly recommend working with Ms. Lewis and make sure you write down some of her comments. She thinks fast and out of her quick mind comes real nuggets. It is up to you to catch them. Don't be afraid to ask her "why" when discussing the minutiae of a paragraph or a line in a contract. Ms. Lewis will go into all the possible angles on your counterpart's side and yours. It is occasionally scary but ultimately helpful since it gives you an opportunity to choose the best possible path knowing full well what all the possible options are. Take your time to review all her suggestions and comments on your documents. Sleep on them ! It will be worth your time. You won't regret it. I could not recommend Ms. Lewis enough.

It’s hard to trust most lawyers these days. I was skeptical about hiring a woman lawyer but my friend used her and said great things about her. Hilary understood me and didn’t try to pressure me. She earned my trust and respect. She’s not easy because she wants you to work hard while your her client. But she really cares and fights for you on every level. Ms. Phillips was my lawyer when I was charged with some violent felonies. She looks like a nice lady (and she is) but she's a tough dedicated fighter and will protect you no matter what.
It was easy to get in touch and trust her. She reminded me of my court dates and worked with my employer to explain dates and why I had to go to therapy every week so I wouldn't lose my job.
She got a good plea but I wanted to go to trial and she supported me 100%. I was found not guilty of all the charges.
Ms. Phillips isn't cheap but she's worth every penny!

While I was out of town, the contractor hired to built onto my house made a significant error and deviated from the building plan. The contractor was refusing to correct the mistake so I contacted Alandis to understand my options and get the contractor to correct the building mistake he made. Thanks to Alandis, the contractor went back and fixed the error he made. Having Alandis on my side helped me gain piece of mind since I was out of town when this stressful situation occurred. Suzanne Land and I were first introduced through a mutual friend, after my husband's death. I engaged her to assist me with matters related to closing the marital estate, which was comprised of several companies and employed over 300 people at the time.
The estate was very complicated and there were many challenges.
I had no previous experience running a business or engaging an attorney or negotiating a contract. Everything about the process of closing down my husband's estate was stressful and frightening. I was emotionally brittle and Suzanne experienced my personality shifts with grace, compassion and understanding. She was always caring and always patient.
Suzanne had the incredible ability to take very complex issues and explain them in a way that was easy to comprehend. This was so comforting to me as I moved through this process to conclusion.
Here is an example that highlights her talent. The companies in the estate were being overcharged by a consulting firm on multiple invoices over months. I asked her to review a recent invoice sent and she quickly marked the entries where the hours billed were duplication of effort and the bill was cut in half. She took the time to explain the invoice to me so I could see how those hours were logged and where the duplication occurred, so I could speak to the company with confidence when I insisted they reduce the bill by 50%. They reduced the bill by half and I saved thousands of dollars.
Suzanne suggested ways to protect my assets, revised my will, established my family and personal trusts, even created an education trust for my son to safeguard the money I wanted earmarked for college. She is intelligent, extremely competent, detail oriented and possesses the sharpest instincts in all matters of business. I feel safe because she has handled my estate and when I pass away I know my son will be in capable hands, as she guides him through this passage of life.
When you call for an appointment, she is prompt to call you back and will often come to you. That is personalized service I appreciate.
Suzanne is a great legal talent, but more than that, she is willing to go the extra mile. My son was 8 when I met her, but when he was 20 and thinking of a career in law, I asked Suzanne if she would have lunch with him to talk about law schools, answer questions and share insights from her career. She didn't hesitate to give up her personal time to meet with him and encourage him, to discuss which law schools offered the best programs, and all the opportunities he could pursue in this career after graduation. My son found her advice extremely worthwhile. He so appreciated her going out of her way to do this for him.
It is great to know people like her still exist. She has integrity, character and compassion. Suzanne is the whole package.

I was getting ready to file divorce preceedings and I got Rhett's name from another attorney friend of mine. My daughter was falsely accused of a theft crime at Walmart where she was employed. She had only been there a couple of weeks. A professional scam artist came thru her line and ended up stealing a large sum of money during her scheme. I went to an attorney I had known since I was 19 years old. He had his “associate” work on the case. For over a year, all we ever got was “make a plea.” I personally researched the case, found the woman who scammed my daughter, and discovered she (the scammer) had done the same thing previously and after the accusation against my 19 year old daughter. I made a notebook complete with her alias names, her other cases and charges all over the country for doing the same thing she did to my child. I tried to get “associate” to look at the notebook but he was mad because my daughter refused to plead guilty to something she had not done. Associate was sent on his way by a very smart judge, a new attorney was appointed to handle the matter and a new chance for someone to hear the truth of my daughter’s case. When it was turned over to this attorney, not one minute did I worry. That is all I had done since her arrest.
Today I received a text message from attorney BRUCE KAYE. The case against my daughter had been dismissed. He took the information to the prosecutor and she saw what we all already knew. My daughter was innocent.
BRUCE KAYE is one of the best lawyers I have ever dealt with. He listened, he investigated and he sought the TRUTH! My kid wasn’t a number to him, or just a case, she was an innocent 19 year old criminal justice student who planned on being a police officer and he did what had to be done to prove her innocence. My wife and I own a sports agency. We were introduced to Zach through a close personal friend. He really impressed us with his knowledge of law. We hired him as our general counsel for the agency. Little did we know that we would have to use his services within a month of us hiring him. We had an age/ identity dispute with a prospective client in the Dominican Republic. I tried to resolve the issue by myself but kept getting the runaround from the main MLB office. I let Zach know that I wasn't getting anywhere with the issue and let him take over. Within 48 hours he had the issue resolved and we were able to have the player eligible to sign with any big league team. In another instance we had an issue with a marketing company and one of our clients. I had Zach and his father Leon take care of the situation with their expertise in that type of law. Usman was stupendous, professional, courteous, honest, and cognizant from the start!
Given the many variables and complexity involved in forming a business entity, registering a trademark, registering a copyright, registering an EIN, determining whether a terms of usage and privacy policy agreement is required, and reviewing health disclaimers for an eBook, Usman was highly cooperative and responsive making me feel at ease.
He answered my comprehensive emails succinctly and thoroughly. He recommended a service called Markify for conducting additional trademark searches outside of USPTO's database.
He even went so far in responding very efficiently over the weekend, outside of business hours. That innate gesture is definitely praiseworthy and exceptional given time was not on my side nor was it for Usman. I needed answers quickly, even though I didn't explicitly mention these sentiments to him because that would be too impractical and idiotic. He understood my situation with all the nuances and did everything in my best interests to secure all the legal knots in a timely fashion without any hiccups.
When it came to billing, he was cognizant of keeping me abreast of the total hours he spent on specific tasks. Using LawTrades, he took the time out of his hectic schedule to list the estimated project fees including all fixed upfront costs for registering the business and his hourly review rate. His financial transparency gave me a pretty good cost picture of his services with no surprises!
Additionally, Usman telephonically walked me through the step-by-step instructions for obtaining an EIN for an LLC. That made the entire process seamless, saving me much valuable time.
All and all, I would highly recommend Usman if you're looking for an intellectual property lawyer, creating a legal entity for your business, reasonable legal fees, and state-of-the-art service.
