Tomas is an excellent lawyer. I had an unfortunate running with the law (racial profiling) that resulted in some trumped up charges. Tomas was low key, calm and collected. I can't speak highly enough about Valerie. First off, she's an amicable person. I know that doesn't count for much in a world governed by law, but just her tone of voice is so comforting. And it's nice to have a lawyer you feel like you can trust. She is a professor @ Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. So if that doesn't scream credibility, then I don't know what does!
Let's get down to business: Valerie knows everything regarding music law. Period. End. You will never need to retain another lawyer. And she's honest! I feel like most lawyers just want quick money. But her rates are surprisingly quite reasonable. I highly doubt you'll find another lawyer with rates as competitive as hers, who will put the same amount of time and energy into your case(s) as she will.
Valerie helped my band with trademarks, copyrights, professional name searches, and so much more. Seriously, without Valerie we probably would have made a several major mistakes upon entering the music industry. She helped us dodge & squash all of that, along with a few red flag issues we were having with our former recording studio. I've learned so much in the process as well. As a result, I'm more aware, and I feel like a better musician now.
Valerie doesn't offer free consultations. BUT the pre-consultation form is pretty much a free consultation in itself. I like it because it asks you questions that you may not have even thought of yet because you've been focused on making music/booking gigs. For example: your goals, your concept, if you have a manager/agent, your creative process, copyrights filings, etc. It gets you really thinking about the overall bigger picture. And it helps Valerie get to know you or your band better. From there, she can help guide you in the right direction.
I remember my consultation with was 2 hours long. We literally covered at least 10+ different things extensively over the phone. I couldn't remember some of what we discussed the next day, but I was SO happy when 2 days later she emailed me a professionally drafted follow up consultation document that contained everything we talked about in detail. It had a glossary, and everything. Just like a book. She even included a to do list, ha! That consultation was worth every single penny! And I still reference the follow up document every now and then when I need to.

I worked with a previous lawyer a few years ago that was horrible! I was referred to Christian Legal Society and found Mark . I actually talked to him last and on the day I was ready to make my move on getting custody of my daughter. After our consultation I knew he was our man. He is very knowledgeable about family law. He walked me through all the steps we would be taking and was honest about our chances. He was so easily accessible throughout the whole process. I would call or email him and he would get back to me promptly if I didn't reach him. I live in Texas and when we went to court I was granted custody of my daughter on the first day! I flew to Las Vegas immediately and was greeted with Mark at the airport to ensure the exchange went smoothly and to meet face to face for the first time. We talked for a while like we had known each other for years. He also helped me get my daughter enrolled in school following our return to Texas. Ms. Phillips was my lawyer when I was charged with some violent felonies. She looks like a nice lady (and she is) but she's a tough dedicated fighter and will protect you no matter what.
It was easy to get in touch and trust her. She reminded me of my court dates and worked with my employer to explain dates and why I had to go to therapy every week so I wouldn't lose my job.
She got a good plea but I wanted to go to trial and she supported me 100%. I was found not guilty of all the charges.
Ms. Phillips isn't cheap but she's worth every penny!

Suzanne Land and I were first introduced through a mutual friend, after my husband's death. I engaged her to assist me with matters related to closing the marital estate, which was comprised of several companies and employed over 300 people at the time.
The estate was very complicated and there were many challenges.
I had no previous experience running a business or engaging an attorney or negotiating a contract. Everything about the process of closing down my husband's estate was stressful and frightening. I was emotionally brittle and Suzanne experienced my personality shifts with grace, compassion and understanding. She was always caring and always patient.
Suzanne had the incredible ability to take very complex issues and explain them in a way that was easy to comprehend. This was so comforting to me as I moved through this process to conclusion.
Here is an example that highlights her talent. The companies in the estate were being overcharged by a consulting firm on multiple invoices over months. I asked her to review a recent invoice sent and she quickly marked the entries where the hours billed were duplication of effort and the bill was cut in half. She took the time to explain the invoice to me so I could see how those hours were logged and where the duplication occurred, so I could speak to the company with confidence when I insisted they reduce the bill by 50%. They reduced the bill by half and I saved thousands of dollars.
Suzanne suggested ways to protect my assets, revised my will, established my family and personal trusts, even created an education trust for my son to safeguard the money I wanted earmarked for college. She is intelligent, extremely competent, detail oriented and possesses the sharpest instincts in all matters of business. I feel safe because she has handled my estate and when I pass away I know my son will be in capable hands, as she guides him through this passage of life.
When you call for an appointment, she is prompt to call you back and will often come to you. That is personalized service I appreciate.
Suzanne is a great legal talent, but more than that, she is willing to go the extra mile. My son was 8 when I met her, but when he was 20 and thinking of a career in law, I asked Suzanne if she would have lunch with him to talk about law schools, answer questions and share insights from her career. She didn't hesitate to give up her personal time to meet with him and encourage him, to discuss which law schools offered the best programs, and all the opportunities he could pursue in this career after graduation. My son found her advice extremely worthwhile. He so appreciated her going out of her way to do this for him.
It is great to know people like her still exist. She has integrity, character and compassion. Suzanne is the whole package.

Usman was stupendous, professional, courteous, honest, and cognizant from the start!
Given the many variables and complexity involved in forming a business entity, registering a trademark, registering a copyright, registering an EIN, determining whether a terms of usage and privacy policy agreement is required, and reviewing health disclaimers for an eBook, Usman was highly cooperative and responsive making me feel at ease.
He answered my comprehensive emails succinctly and thoroughly. He recommended a service called Markify for conducting additional trademark searches outside of USPTO's database.
He even went so far in responding very efficiently over the weekend, outside of business hours. That innate gesture is definitely praiseworthy and exceptional given time was not on my side nor was it for Usman. I needed answers quickly, even though I didn't explicitly mention these sentiments to him because that would be too impractical and idiotic. He understood my situation with all the nuances and did everything in my best interests to secure all the legal knots in a timely fashion without any hiccups.
When it came to billing, he was cognizant of keeping me abreast of the total hours he spent on specific tasks. Using LawTrades, he took the time out of his hectic schedule to list the estimated project fees including all fixed upfront costs for registering the business and his hourly review rate. His financial transparency gave me a pretty good cost picture of his services with no surprises!
Additionally, Usman telephonically walked me through the step-by-step instructions for obtaining an EIN for an LLC. That made the entire process seamless, saving me much valuable time.
All and all, I would highly recommend Usman if you're looking for an intellectual property lawyer, creating a legal entity for your business, reasonable legal fees, and state-of-the-art service.

I love this guy. Against a lot of obstacles he was able to win our case in a all day trial. We were up against the attorney generals office and my ex- wife's private attorney in a Dallas Family Court with the odds stacked firmly against us. His research and professional demeanor over came those odds and we won the trial and a request for retrial was denied. The case is now with the 256 th court of appeals and I have the utmost confidence in Mr. Brooks to get us through this as well.
