Mr. Harper was incredibly helpful all along; he always took the time needed to explain to me what was going on, what I could expect, etc. I also liked that he was straightforward about some of the problems with my case. I didn't feel surprised at any time during the case. Very good attorney and a great result.

I was inexperienced with some of what had come before me it was this attorney who was a ble to directly address the terrible questions which brought her to represent my case. Although I was able to compartmentalize some of what I endured this lawyer was sharp to sense something was very wrong. Unfortunately I was unable to communicate with her because of some of the threats I was facing at the time. I can say she had left such a lasting memory for me to now seak her out once more.

You won't find an attorney that is kinder, more patient or more knowledgeable than Mark Korotash. He took care of my closing, and he prepared my will and advanced directives. He explained everything, he listened well, and he made me feel like he had all the time in the world for me, even though he wasn't charging by the hour. I highly recommend Attorney Mark Korotash. He is a remarkable man, and a remarkable attorney.

I was priviledged to work with Jennifer Liotta for approximately one year. During that period she took the time to thoroughly understand the technology that I work with and the complicated concepts that I needed to use. She was always responsive and prompt and carefully and quickly explained the important legal aspects of patent law. She also provided clear legal advise for the best procedures to follow in developing our concept and product and she did an outstanding job to seek out perspective interest from potential licensing clients. In short, she knows what you are doing and how to best deal with the practical aspects of research as she acts as a bridge from academia and concepts to industry. In the 26 years that I have developed patents, Jennifer is one of the two best lawyers I have worked with.

Patrick was the only attorney who was ready to defend and not settle against false accusations brought against us. And he won with a clear mindset about how things will unfold in a complicated case. I interviewed 6 other attorneys for the case. Only he was able to articulate this winning strategy, which he then executed to win the case without settling. In fact we received the reward.

Matthew Paradisi represented me in a wrongful termination suit and I cannot speak more highly of his work, his intelligence, his demeanor and his attention to my case. He showed an interest in my case, was great at following up, and was great with walking me through the details of what I was facing. He also did an outstanding job seeing my case through to a mediation that I left feeling like justice had been served and that I could finally look forward and move on from a difficult experience. I highly recommend attorney Matthew Paradisi and his firm, Cicchiello & Cicchiello, LLP.

I was recommended to Joel by a friend to help in my foreclosure process. From the very beginning Joel has been down to earth, informative, and responsive. Though I'm probably only half way through the process, so far so good, he is caring and I can tell their is a personal sense of "working for the client.". Would recommend Joel to anyone facing foreclosure. Even had coffee at starbucks to discuss business, bet ya don't get that from too many attorneys.

I have used attorney Marchesi's services approximately a half dozen times over the past 15 years. He is approachable, attentive, and very results and detail oriented. My business involves police and corrections work, and often leads me into litigation. Mr. Marchesi has successfully defended me several times, staved off several other claims, and provided proactive advice which has kept me at work and away from the courtroom untold other times. His charges are more than reasonable, and very competitive with other attorneys. I highly recommend him.

I was referred to John Hawkins by another attorney after she discovered she was unable to represent me due to conflict of interest, and I am very glad she was unable to represent me - otherwise I would not have had the opportunity to be represented by such an amazing attorney. He was kind, very personable, and patient. John took the time to make sure I understood everything involving my case. He went above and beyond my expectations. From my experience, I know that he is not just interested in a big payout; he truly cares about his clients and getting justice for them. Before my first consult with John Hawkins, I was not even aware of the fact that I was entitled to any compensation. He is very easy to work with, very laid back, and does not bombard you with legal jargon that most people do not understand. I would recommend this attorney to anyone who needed help.

I was upside down on my home and didn't know what to do. I was referred by a friend who had worked with Tony and highly recommended him as a real estate attorney. I met with Tony and he listened to my problem and gave me some alternatives that would save my home and save me money. I remember him telling me that his motto is "getting the client to the desired outcome with the least amount of cost". Boy he sure worked that motto for me!!! He doesn't charge for phone calls or e-mails. He only charges when he does work for me. Because of that I'm never afraid to call him with a question. This guy is the real deal and a wealth of real estate knowledge. I would recommend him.

This was my first experience with a lawyer and Aaron went above and beyond what I expected from any lawyer. I've heard horror stories as I'm sure we all have, but this one right here is a fairytale. I have anxiety meeting new people and Aaron adjusted to that quickly and trust was built, with his knowledge, his patience and his understanding not just with his people skills but with his extensive knowdlege of law and personal passion for justice. Aaron surpassed all expectations of mine he kept me well informed throughout the entire process and was available to speak if I had any concerns or questions about the case. Aaron is a professional and provides five star quality to his clients. I highly recommend him to anyone and everyone. If anyone asks Aaron's the man to get the job done.

Mr. Donohue assisted me with a claim in which the insurance company was refusing to compensate for an injury I received. He was very knowledgable, professional, straightforward, and patient. He carefully listened to my claim, clearly explained possible outcomes, what I could and could not expect and advised me well. Mr. Donohue was consistent in returning my calls in a timely manner and keeping me updated. He was honest, compassionate, focused on detail, investigated the facts of the situation well and was very up to date on related laws and other relevant cases. I was very pleased with Mr. Donohue, as well as his office staff. They were very polite, plesant, and professional. I have no doubt that my choosing to have him represent me was absolutely the right decision. His research, preparedness, knowledge, and demeanor were absolutely essential to our favorable outcome. I would absolutely hire him again if I had such a need as well as refer him with confidence.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
