Mr. Palmer is very professional and polite. He was my father's attorney in 1999 for custody of me. I saw he was still in practice and consulted with him about representing my fiance for her upcoming custody case, which lead us to decide to hire him. He's very dedicated and honest, he won't waste your time or money if he doesn't think he can win. He's been around for so long he's built different relationships with different courts and has a fantastic reputation. He's got a heart of gold and truly cares about his clients as if they were family. He will work with you regarding payments regardless, especially in extreme circumstances. His tactics are unique, he tears down opposing parties with their own information and inconsistencies all in his own way. He's not arrogant nor ignorant about it, subtle yet blunt. He's someone who doesn't advertise any other way than word of mouth. I found him here and can't believe there's no posts so I had to let people know about this hidden hometown gem. If I could rate 20 stars I would. If you're in need of a civil or criminal attorney in Caroline County, Maryland, call Mr. Walt Palmer.

I found myself in a terrible situation at my workplace with serious accusations. I knew being a man of color, I was already the underdog in the fight but Diane took my case. We went on the most bizarre experience with my case but she stuck with me the whole way until the end. She made sure all of my rights as an employee were protected and made sure I didn't fall into any traps. I believe that if the attorney sticks by you, believes in you, knows his or her stuff, you got the right lawyer. Diane was there for me the whole time. I highly recommend the law firm of King&Greisen to anyone who needs help in any employment situation.

This attorney is the most confident attorney I have ever seen. She does not make promises and explains exactly what your options are. She is professional yet friendly. She is articulate and fearless! Furthermore, if you Google her name, you will find her wide array of experience. If you have the opportunity to retain this attorney it will be money well spent. The opposing counsel seemed to be extremely intimidated by Attorney Sharma. If she cannot find a successful resolution to your case, no one can!

Deepak has represented the advocacy group where I work (as a litigator) on several occasions, and I've worked with him on a couple of other appellate amicus curiae briefs. Each time, my experience has been excellent--he has great analytical skills and fantastic legal acumen. I look forward to working with him in the future, and heartily recommend him to anyone needing an appellate advocate.

The best thing about Leslie is that not only is she great at what she does, she’s also a good person. She has gone to great lengths to helping us, even to the extent of personal sacrifice. Yes, there are attorneys who don’t fit the horror stories you hear , and Leslie Langbein is one of them. I thank God every day she is representing us! Since Day 1, I’ve known we were in the best hands. Leslie is a powerhouse attorney, just the kind of person you want on your side. Leslie had so much experience in the same type of battle we were involved in, and right from the outset she knew precisely what we were up against. Every meeting with her was like talking to a trusted friend, one who made it her personal mission to defending us. Since Day 1, I’ve known we were in the best hands. Leslie is a powerhouse attorney, just the kind of person we wanted on OUR side. I always felt a sence of peace after each meeting with her. Thank You.

Phil Culpepper is an excellent litigator. My case was garbage but Phil's quick wit and dynamic arguments convinced the judge that my opponent had the weaker case against me and it was tossed out of court after Phil argued for about 10 minutes.

I found Mr. Sanger through the review of his peers on this website; then meeting Mr. Sanger in person and having him handle my case, I’m of the opinion that he is truly the lawyer of lawyers. He examined my case from the macro to the micro, and how both sides of the matter might strategize or approach the issue. His office (Sanger,Swysen & Dunkle) is the definition of integrity and ethics. I’m grateful beyond words for his experience, knowledge and professionalism. If it’s your first time in trying to choose the finest lawyer for a matter that can’t afford mistakes, I highly recommend calling his office.

Racine took my case when nobody else would. All the other lawyers said there wouldnt be enough money in it to be worth their time. I know she had other cases and also did some pro bono work, but when it came time for her attention to my case and trial, she was so focused. The jury heard and understood everything she had, and even thgough I didn't have medical bills or broken bones or anything, they came back in my favor because the cops treated me wrong. She believed in me, and so did the jury. The case took three years, but she never gave up on me.

Unbelievable! I had a seemingly crazed neighbor go on a vendetta against me, charging me with various crimes for 16 years. 74 in all. The most recent batch included 11 misdemeanors and 4 felonies. This was such a goat rope that the DA failed to get sworn statements or arrest warrants. Mr. Young went to court, with obviously untrained Judges (one had a high school degree in cosmotology) and unraveled the whole thing. CHARGES DISMISSED! His logic is Vulcan, his composure is pitch perfect. His knowledge of the law is superb/,. Hire this fellow if you need an upstate lawyer.

Joe first represented me on a case over ten years ago. He was not only extremely competent, but was a very good listener, took whatever time needed to explain what I needed and wanted to understand and got me a very satisfying outcome on my case. Since that time, over the years, he has been available to me for advice and just to talk; he is genuinely a really nice guy, very down to earth - something I have not always found, unfortunately, in other members of his profession. I would recommend Joe without reservation!!!

Our HOA contracted with Charles Fenton to pursue a claim with the developer of our community. The claim is still ongoing, however, it is clear that we made the correct decision in contracting with this attorney. I think that we would have in a disastrous situation had we not contract with him because many construction defects were uncovered in the course of pursuing our claim. We receive updates from him or his representatives at our board meeting, He also makes himself available if any questions arise. Could not be more pleased with his services and I highly recommend him. Sincerely, Margaret Cordova C

When I thought there was no favorable out come available to me, she took on my case, traveling from San francisco to nj to fight for my rights, successfully! Her professionalism and caring nature was such a welcome addition to what I considered the battle of my life. I cannot thank her enough nor say enough to relay the legal talents of this woman.

I hired Anne for a short sale which she represented my interests succussfully. She was also called again to protect my interests again when one of the parties failed to fulfill their agreement and was posting inaccurate information on my credit report. She boldly went where other attorney's failed and again, corrected the situation in short order. I think she is awesome and highly disappointed that this legal challenge went against her. Her plaintiff in this case probably was overreaching in their so-called rights in the First Amendment.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
