From the moment I stepped in through that door, until I left with all my matters handled, Elizabeth and Frank had been with me every step of the way. I had financial problems and needed to consult if I should file for Bankruptcy or not. Not only did I get a free consultation, but also their absolute honest opinions and suggestions. These are people you just know that you can trust. Since then, I contact them with any legal matter I have.

Had a landlord try and screw me out of $1,400. I had her dead to rights (email correspondence, pictures, videos) and knew it so I did some research and found Avery. Avery did the initial consult where I paid here a $1,200 retainer and her paralegal, Kerri Smith, did the true legwork on the case. Which was fine by me because I didn't want Avery to do much as she is twice the rate. Short of the matter, my claim was built on rock solid ground, well written and bulletproof. My landlord finally settled and I got full sum plus interest. Took right at 1 year to get done but happy with the outcome overall.

I met Fami while she was giving a foreclosure clinic at the Annapolis courthouse. I recently lost my job and the bank would not work with me. They filed foreclosure and I could not find an attorney to help me, so I went to the free clinic where they have attorneys to help. I was told she could only meet with me for 15 minutes, but she met with me for much longer. When I met her, she looked through all my paperwork and told me what I could do to stop the sale. I filed her draft with the court and they stopped the sale. This has given me and my family additional time in our home of 18 years to decide what we could do long term about the house. Fami was very kind and patient and was so very knowledgeable. I was very impressed also because I met with other attorneys who told me there was nothing they could do to help. I would highly recommend her.

The bottom line is that Mr. Lebowitz gets results. He handled my car accident case that another attorney did not want to take to court and we won. I recommend him to everyone and so far, the people who hired him are satisfied. he is a bit tuff but that is exactly the attitude he will portray when handling a case.

William Roessler went out of his way to help me, and I really appreciated it. Unfortunately, he didn't get to actually help me in court because Wes Adams, the newly-elected State's Attorney in Anne Arundel County, immediately fired/forced into retirement all of the higher-ups from the previous administration.

Mike took charge of my family's case with thoroughness and zeal from day one. He advised us to be open to a settlement to avoid the time and expense of a trial, but never shied from going to court if necessary for a fair resolution. He kept us updated every step along the way, and left nothing to chance. His personal contacts among his former State's Attorney colleagues proved invaluable in winning our case.

Mr Caldwell represented me in a criminal case (which is why I want to keep this post anonymous); I was falsely accused of assaulting a police officer in Washington, DC. Mr Caldwell was masterful in the courtroom; it was clear that he was very experienced and knowledgeable in these matters. It was a muddy case because the police did not tell the truth but Mr Caldwell was about to tease out the lies in their testimony and make it clear to the judge. I am incredibly thankful for him representing me.

Ms. Whiting is a child advocate and puts her heart and soul into her clients. She represented my children during a nasty divorce case several years ago. The thing that I respected the most is her complete and utter honesty, even when it wasn't what I always wanted to hear. She listens to both sides (parents) , however, she puts the childrens needs first.

I was involved in a very bad accident, so severe and complicated that the attorney I originally hired suggested I move my workers comp case to Mr Fink for better guidance & knowledge. I was concerned at first not knowing who David Fink was, but within a short time I became more confident with my change in attorney. Mr Fink & his staff were responsive in a timely manner for ALL my needs and questions. All staffing was personable and made me feel like a person and here to help me, not just another case . Mr Fink and his staff eased my worries about the case so that I could focus on my recovery. I would definitely recommend/refer you to Mr Fink for his services.

He is a rather new and up in coming lawyer, He was recommended to me through a mutual friend, let me tell you I've used him twice for some heavy hitting charges. I had a very serious drug possession charge and then two years later I got an even more serious drug charge, I was caught with the worse drug in the eyes of the law some other drugs and paraphernalia. I am not saying what I did was right but that charge was the final straw so I went to rehab, he definitely had his work cut out for him I was facing 5 years easy. He was very encouraging with me getting treatment for my well being not just a defense strategy. And he didn't fill my head with false hope about me just getting off everything Scott free, he was realistic. And kept me informed every step of the way. So time for sentencing I was handed 18 months and it was suspended except a month and boom just like that there goes my job I had held for 10 years. Plus I was on a medication they wouldn't provide in jail that was corresponding with my treatment, he spoke with the judge and got it put down to a "work release-esque" type community services for the month so i was able to keep my fiancé and and my job and stay in treatment, if not I probably would of relapsed after I got out of jail or ended up doing my full 18 months with no probation. So that was the best case scenario that could of ever happened. It's all thanks to his compassion and ambition, wit and sheer brilliance. He is a fantastic lawyer.. He still calls me to this day to see how I am doing, I've been clean ever sense. He gave me a second chance that I wouldn't of gotten without him. I would have been stuck i the "revolving" door that getting caught in the system is. That I've seen happen to many times, I owe my sobriety and freedom to this maybe overlooked and underestimated lawyer Nathan long is. He is truly great and I owe my life To him. He wants to win, but he wants to help people more, so please if you need a criminal defense or any type of lawyer call Nathan long of Salisbury, you surely will be satisfied with his legal approach.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
