Bonnie helped me with a misdemeanor offense in 2010. It was a petty first offense and I got off with community service and a small fine. Her fee was reasonable and although she is not normally a criminal defense lawyer she knew her stuff and saw me through to the end with a positive outcome. She followed up and helped me expunge the record. She is a meticulous, helpful attorney who genuinely cares.

I would highly recommend Jason Downs. He represented my son in a federal criminal case. He is patient, caring, he never rushed us, a very good listener and communicator, and he always returned calls and emails. He was able to secure my son's release from the DC jail (under US Marshals custody) when we thought there was no hope. Jason remained calm and positive through the whole journey, he was accommodating and easy to talk to. I feel my son got a fair sentence, and that was thanks to Jason and his hard work and experience. He is genuine, and I thank him immensely.

I am blown away by how much time and care Mr. Whissel took to consult me about my case. He was very thorough and dedicated to giving me the facts about my case. Due to budget issues I went with another lawyer and now I am really kicking myself in the behind about that decision. For the slight cost difference I'm sure Mr. Whissel would have put in 10 times the effort for me.

Me and the miisses caught by snoopy peepin' ladies doing' the baiten. I knew I was in hot water. I called on Cullen who knows a thing or two 'bout baiten. He whipped out a stroke of genius and fired up a hot defense of baiten is natural. I lost but Cullen really stepped up and reached around hard.

Stephanie was very diligent in guiding & counseling me throughout my divorce proceedings. I feel as though she genuinely cares for me, and did the best to ease my frustrations. I would refer her to anyone going through a nasty and bitter divorce, if we had more lawyers like her, the world would be a better place.

Craig is a true professional and advocate, and a calm voice when the stakes are high. Craig handled a matter for me with the best outcome imaginable, and at a time when I most needed that result. While I don't want to need Craig again anytime in the near future, I've got his number in my phone just in case. I've also referred family and friends to Craig, and that is the highest endorsement I can give!

Jamie Alvarado-Taylor is conscientious, kind, knowledgable, thorough and will fight for you. Jamie represented me in a custody battle, one where I was the person with the burden of proof, asking for what appeared to be against the guidelines. Not only were we ultimately victorious, but Jamie remained calm and considerate throughout the difficult process. She supported ever decision I made during the legal proceedings, counseling and providing advice every step of the way. She never shied away from honesty as pertaining to our likelihood of success and included me in ever aspect of the process. We won, but I know that had we not been successful, Jamie Alvarado-Taylor would have held me up all the way to the end. I wholeheartedly recommend Jamie Alvarado-Taylor as the legal voice in any proceeding.

I have had Mr. Hollis as my attorney in the past for my daughter and myself. Recently, I had need of his services again, just for me. My case had been dragging on for over a year and a half. Going back to Mr. Hollis, even though I had moved off the Shore, was the best choice I made. He managed to do in a few hours what several lawyers on the Western Shore were not able to do in over a year and a half. He listens to his clients and does everything he can to bring about a fast resolution. His knowledge of the Maryland courts is thorough, his care of his clients is always first on his mind. You could not ask for a better attorney.

Im retained Laura Bearsch for a divorce and custody case. Laura does not make false promises nor want to "bill you to death" with using your time to run up hourly charges. She lays it all out on the table, is honest, direct and her staff is also great. Everyone I've dealt with there is friendly. I feel like I'm in good hands with Laura, and the entire office. If she says she'll get back to you, she does. When something needs to be dealth with, it's dealt with.

Look, nobody is perfect and I am less perfect than most, but those mass murder charges against me were over the top. A few First Degree Murder charges here and there perhaps, but mass murder? No way! Chuck Bernstein took my cases and beat all of those murder charges. In fact, under his tutelage, I have been completely rehabilitated and elected to high public office. Chuck thinks I am Presidential timber. Who knows?

was compelled to write a review about Attorney Allison Levine because I was overwhelmed with gratitude during and after the hearing that occurred on Nov.1st,2017. Out of all the years of dealing with criminal attorneys and thought they were all about the same. I had the pleasure of meeting and hiring Allison Levine for my son's post conviction case. I was in awe watching her professionalism as she defended my son in his post conviction case. She was extremely thorough and her research skills and all the knowledge she retains about the law that came forth in that court room was undeniable. The judge that was presiding over the case acknowledged her not once but twice during the hearing. He stated that she presented one of the best post conviction arguments ever heard in his courtroom. I am so thankful to God that I was led to her because I was afraid and really needed her help. Allison Levine put my fears to rest when she took the lead in preparing and presenting the case the way it should be done. I will tell any and everyone, if you ever need help with a criminal case of any kind please contact Allison Levine. She will fight with the law like a mother loin with everything in her and you will not be disappointed. Allison Levine thank you so much for giving your all for my family. You will never be forgotten. Sincerely,

Adele took my discrimination case when most attorneys said no. I had a very hard time finding a lawyer to defend me and had to do most of the work on my own. The EEOC was no help they sided with the employer that sent them false documentation which caused me to loose their representation. It could have been squashed then if i knew what to send to the EEOC and understood their procedures but i had no legal help even from the legal AIDE agency. Adele hinted me in the right direction of what to send to the court in my civil case understood my story and took the case. When she took the case it was at the last stages. I was in the process of losing my case. She turned the case around and I was able to settle out of court with my employer. I live comfortably with the compensation I received from the employer along my SSI benefit. the case has been over for months and i still have cash in the bank. What I really admire about her she took my case looking at the condition I was in with no money and failing health. To be honest i was dead broke, failing health and homeless living out of my car. You can not find a lawyer like that anywhere these days that will do that, you just can't. Adele makes lawyers not look so bad. She a tough gal! I would to proud to recommend her to anyone. Being an gay man in corporate America is tough if you cant hide it or they are on a witch hunt. Its nice to know their are people like Adele out there that will stand up for just because its the right thing to do.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
