Summer 2014 I was in Baltimore, MD for an internship at Hopkins. Two weeks before I left for home, I was driving on a beautiful lush green hillside soaking up nature. Being a current resident of Los Angeles, CA I don't get much of mother nature, so I really appreciated the greenery in MD. As I was driving on the hillside my beautiful moment with mother nature was rudely interrupted by the high pitched sound and bright lights of a buzz-kill cop. I was furious but mostly scared knowing I would have to tell my mom I got a speeding ticket. I soon came to the conclusion that I had three routes I could take with the ticket. 1.) Bite the bullet and pay the fine. 2.) Run to Mexico and drink Dos Equis with the most interesting man. OR 3.) Take Judge Judy to Law School. As much as I love a good street taco in Mexico, I quickly decided this was not an option. Now I'm faced with either surrendering, like a fat kid loves cake, or take the law into my own hands the same way our forefathers once did with the Queen of Tea Lovers. I quickly decided I was going to get some hot shot lawyer on a college budget none the less to dual it out with Judge Judy. I quickly asked Siri to get me the phone numbers of every traffic lawyer within a 20 mile radius of me. After reading some of the reviews the Top 20 lawyers were called by yours truly. Within the first five calls the option of handing a fat check over to the USofA seemed more reasonable than what some of these lawyers thought of a college kids budget. I decided to persevere and soon called the delightful Gary Wiessner. 10 seconds into the phone call Gary went from a 4th rounder (because I thought that was all I could afford) to being at the very top of my draft board. After two 360 spins by the planet earth I decided Gary was going to be my representative so I gave him a call. Not only was Gary within my budget he held my hand every step of the way. Gary was very professional on the phone, in person, and in emails; if I had a question he would swiftly get back to me. The best part of all because of the decades of experience Gary had he knew exactly what game-plan to call while at the courtroom. I'm not going to lie I was very scared just handing Gary money and trusting a lawyer to go to court and not just runaway with my money. Gary was able to get me out of the ticket, so my insurance would not find out because in the end that's why I decided to put the Law into my own hands, because as the great GENERAL GEORGE S. PATTON, JR. once said, "A man must know his destiny. if he does not recognize it, then he is lost. By this I mean, once, twice, or at the very most, three times, fate will reach out and tap a man on the shoulder. if he has the imagination, he will turn around and fate will point out to him what fork in the road he should take, if he has the guts, he will take it."

I met Judson when he was the president of the Northern Maryland Chapter of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving. I am glad I met him at MADD. He is a plaintiff's attorney for those who are injured by drunk drivers in DUI and DWI cases. Just months after I met him, I was in a car crash with a drunk driver and suffered whiplash and herniated discs. I highly recommend Mr. Lipowitz for anyone who has been injured as a result of a drunk driver. He handled all aspects of my case, from helping me find the right medical treatment to negotiating with the insurance company. He was always there to answer my phone calls.

Mr. Williams is very fair in his assessments of the particular problem you bring to him. He answered my emails and calls promptly, made sure I understood why the situation called for his descision and was never rushed or made me feel like I was a burden. if you have an issue of ANY kind, give this man a call. If he can't fix it, he will point you to who can fix it. I found him to be a joy during a very difficult time for me.

Linda has been my attorney for over 6-plus years, I can't say enough about how professional she is when it comes to handling a case. She's handled my divorce case, accident, workers comp. The entire firm has been great, I wouldn't feel comfortable going to any other law firm. She showed me that she cared about what I was dealing with.

Mr. Gilbert was retained as our attorney to provide support as we navigated an unpleasant dispute with a prior landlord. His knowledge, professionalism, and communication skills proved to be key in swiftly carrying our case to resolution without litigation. We quickly became very comfortable with him as the result of his ability to build a close relationship with us and demonstrate that he was there to help. I highly recommend working with Mr. Gilbert and would not hesitate to hire him again.

Mr. Lambros has been my family's lawyer since my grandfather. He has helped us with everything from legal issues to car accident settlements. In July '08 I was in the back seat of a very bad accident. My hospital bills were around $205,000. He was able to fight for me and have the drivers insurance pay for the bills and then some. Also, when I got into legal trouble, he recommended a very good lawyer in York by the name of Edward Paskey. I can not thank Michael enough for everything he has done for my family. I highly recommend him for any legal trouble. He's smart and knows what he's doing, and to top it off, he's a pro at it. So if you ever need any legal help, call up Michael J. Lambros.

He’s very professional, thorough and friendly. This was the only lawyer able to settle my international divorce case. I had been trying to get divorced for almost ten years from my ex living in another country. It only took him less than two years. I highly recommend Mr. Armstrong for all your legal needs regarding international divorce. He definitely knows what he’s doing and understands the ins and outs of the legal system.

John Ray was excellent. After my husband passed away, there was a family dispute as to who was entitled to what. My case was quite time-consuming, but he followed through with everything -- even the appeals. John was there with me every step of the way. When I had questions, he was very patient and explained the answers in great detail to further my understanding. I am thrilled to say we won the case. I would highly recommend John Ray.

Paul is an attorney for my divorce case since August -2017 until now. First, my english is not good enough to write more review detail about my case. Me and my ex have one daughter 2years old. when my husband filed a divorce complaint to court, i did not have any money to hire an attorney, so i went to see many services of legal help, but all of them denied to help me because they said my case is too complicate and take long time to finish . So, i have to borrow money from my friend and my family to pay for attorney fees. If i dont have attorney, my husband will have a big change to have sole custody (That's what legal aid service said) And i found Paul via my friend recommend. I will never forget what he has done to make sure I was given a fair trial. He was able to proof the case beyond any reasonable doubt and i was more than pleased with the outcome. I feel so indebted to him for his hard work. I want to shout out loud to the world that he is such a excellent attorney i have ever dealt with. And of course, i will write the same review on another website. Thanks Paul.

Hal represented me in an ugly civil case (the nature of which I cannot disclose) in late 2010. I can say without a doubt that Hal is the sharpest, most tenacious, ruthless (to the point of being ugly) attorney you could ever want on your side. He runs a one-man, reasonably priced operation - but is capable of becoming any high dollar law firm or large corporation’s worst nightmare. It’s nice to be on the winning side… but keep in mind two things: 1) you *really* need to hate the people you going after; and 2) you need to be strong enough to reign in a pit bull - or the other side may end up being mauled to pieces.

I used Atty Schuldenfrei when my son needed representation and he pretty much assured me how the outcome would be and the outcome was just as he described it would be. The attorney explained the process and what he would do on the date of the trial and he did just as he said. He would even call me during "off" hours. He was very accessible. I recommend him highly.

I highly recommend Mark Muffoletto. From the initial consultation through the end of my case, he was upfront, knowledgeable and honest. During the initial consultation, he was very attentive and spent a long time going through the details with me. Ive used Mr. Kok for my son on three different occasions now when he's made poor decisions. He's been amazing. Available at all hours and always there to provide us advice no matter day or time. Our first call was past midnight on the day he was arrested, but Mr Kok walked us through the process and what would happen. On the days of trial he was knowledgeable as to the case and knew how to address the prosecutor to get the job done. I would recommend him to anyone who's been wrongly accused and needs to get the job done. I dont know where my entire family would be without him and would recommend him to anyone needed genuine help in an instance.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
