Trustworthy, professional, passionate; Mr. Brown worked with us a couple of times (buying and/or selling a property) and he was indeed the best we could find (compared to others we've worked with in the past).

I had a great experience with Charlie Devine. I had an automobile insurance case, which is confusing for anyone who hasn't experienced something like that before. He was extremely thorough and kept me in the loop with all that was going on with my case. He kept in touch often and let me know what was going on, what he was doing, and why he was doing it. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I have referred many buyers and sellers to Ryan's care. He goes out of his way to inform and guide the process with ease. He is very approachable, easy to work with and truly is the most prompt professional! When I sold my house I knew my transaction would be in very capable hands. Buying or selling property is very stressful for both parties and Ryan has a very calm reassuring demeanor which is most appreciated in this line of work. He truly cares about his clients and I'm always getting thanks and kudos from my own clients after working with him. Ellen Realtor

I have worked personally with Rick Payne for my husband and I. I am a real estate agent and many of my clients choose Rick Payne. He is so responsive, thorough, knows what is needed, knows how to work with all parties. I also like the fact that he can also do the conveyance for my clients. Attorney Grimes did an amazing job representing my family in some complex real estate transactions. She helped to navigate through unnecessarily rough waters (caused by other parties) while working incredibly efficiently and effectively on our behalf. She actually FOUGHT for us! I wouldn't have thought that sort of thing would come up in real estate transactions, but it did and I felt comfortable and confident knowing that she had our back. She went above and beyond for us and I would be happy to recommend her to anyone in need of an excellent real estate attorney!

Mollie Belli is an incredibly intelligent lawyer. She has what it takes to find the most important details. She took my Personal Injury case midway through, reviewed prior information, did extensive research, hired an expert witness and pursued my case with determination. I broke my back terribly in a horse riding accident as a result of defective equipment. I had hours of surgery, long months of rehab and Mollie, along with attorney Michael Bowser, succeeded in winning this suit which covered money owed to my insurance company and will help me with the on-going problems I will have in my future. If you want someone who will do the best for your, who will listen to you, who wants to help, please consider Mollie Belli of the Bowser Law Group in Chelmsford, MA.

I never thought I'd be writing A great rating for a lawyer, they usually don't work very hard and they take all your money. But I can tell you Brian Ward is an excellent attorney, he's quick, sharp, to the pt, and as honest and reasonable as they come. I'm very impressed with him. Used him for a trespass issue with my psycho neighbor and we intend to use him in family court in dealings with my husbands crooked ex. He's great! His wife is a too notch real estate lawyer too. They dont leave u hanging and know their clients. Exceeds expectations, never lazy and he won't break your wallet. He handles tresspass, some real estate, criminal and I heard "Divorce-family" law is his specialty!

I met with Sal recently to discuss a new business that I had started a few months earlier. I went to Sal because I was feeling a bit uncertain about my contracts and whether or not I should form a corporation. Sal was very patient, listened to my concerns and offered some suggestions. He put no pressure on me to hire him but left the door open if I feel the need later on. Based on my limited but undesirable prior experiences with attorneys this was like a breath of fresh air. I suspect that I will become a client at some point, but in the meantime I will recommend him whenever I get a chance.

I have used Kimberly Marchand and her firm, Champagne & Marchand, several times to complete purchase and sale of properties in MA. My most recent transaction with Kim was met with a few challenges. I was working to refinance my property under the HARP program. The lender was very difficult to work with, but Kim was able to work closely with the lender to ensure the transaction was closed in a timely manner. This was no easy task, but Kim's professionalism, dedication, and determination kept the ball rolling and allowed the deal to move ahead. There were many challenges that presented themselves along the way, but Kim was able to overcome each one seemingly effortlessly. At no time did I lose confidence in her ability to get the job done. Kim and her team kept me informed during every step of the process. I would highly recommend Kimberly Marchand, and her firm Champagne and Marchand, for any real estate transaction.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
