Hired Susanna for a probate case wherein she repeatedly made mistakes causing one costly delay after another. She was not satisfied with being paid the total statutory fees for our case, but instead attempted to seek an additional $15,000 in extraordinary fees for services she never provided. Thankfully the Judge shut her down!

Do NOT hire Andrea Viera! She agreed to represent my son in a law suit against the Nevada Department of Corrections. She never once went to visit him and repeatabley refused his calls. When I would try to talk to her about his case, she berated me by saying that I don't understand the process, without explaining the process. After a year and a half, she produced no results. We parted ways and she promised to send the file full of things she had done for him. However, she can't produce a file. HARD PASS

This man has a problem with women especially black women. He really has something against women of color. This man is not invested in you seeking the justice you deserve & his sexual urges is more important than being a dignified law professional. Every lawyer may represent guilty people yet this man here has a special interest in humiliating women in and out of the court room if he feels rejected. I hope this creates space for other women to report any further misconduct and get men like this out of law in Las Vegas because it’s time for us to stand up to our oppressors like him.

When I hired Mr. Beller, we were told that with his many years in the community and his reputation he would fight for me. My case is still going on to this day, when in reality it never should have happened. My ex. wife Breached the Contract of Divorce, and has hired numerous attorneys with no intentions of paying them. The ex. is currently in BK. and Mr. Beller told me before our last District court hearing, "You need to find other council, as we cannot agree on how to proceed in your case". He dropped the ball and I have had to hire two new attorneys, to clean up, what Mr. Beller did not do, to represent me, as his client. Mr. Beller went to court at one time for me, and never spoke up, when the Judge specifically asked him about a piece of Evidence. Mr Bellers answer was, "I didn't want to make the opposing council look bad, after all, he had just lied to the judge". Mr Beller was not a good family Law attorney for me, and I was not looking for a real estate attorney... at the time. My legal case involved Pension and if I had to do it over again, I would hire an attorney who has had many years of family law and pension disbursement, experience.

This attorney may be good most of the time, but in my experience he needs to exercise much greater judgment before taking on cases with no merit. I was personally hurt by false allegations he made in court documents in order to secure a small insurance claim for his client. These false allegations were reported in the media and continue to tarnish my reputation, and I have little or no legal recourse to combat it. He and another attorney failed to communicate to me a mediation/settlement conference, which is in violation of the Nevada Code of Professional Conduct. His lapses in judgment have created much grief, and this lack of exercising "due diligence" is what gives lawyers a bad reputation.

David Sanders was terrible! He bills too much and does too little for what he bills. He is a mooch of an attorney. He is more concerned about billing his clients than he is about providing them results. If you are looking for an attorney who will keep a litigation going forever this is the attorney for you!

Attorney McHenry is a travesty of unprofessionalism with limited litigation time posing as a seasoned litigator in actuality Jack of all master of none. A mar on her law firm. It’s laughable that she actually considers herself as a potential “Super Lawyer”. Light years away from being a super lawyer, Recently in several different litigious litigation’s that she is involved in some instances on some cases she was not even apprised of the correct case laws and statues to cite and or file under in her pleadings, and she makes arguments that are all based off non credible plaintiffs with history of filing multiple falsities this misconduct is to fit her fictitious, outrageous motions! Attorney McHenry will be known for inaccuracies and inappropriate false pleadings. Utter Misrepresentations of facts, multiple slanderous pleadings being filed, along with totally false, inaccurate statements, that are truly at best speculation, again a complete waste of time, and as a result these futile efforts are being payed by her clients that retain Attorney McHenry that end up spending thousands if not ten’s of thousands of dollars through her firm, that Attorney Megan McHenry is associated with. She will appear to make a case just to generate paperwork. How else can she justify her outrageous fees? Her firm should be monitoring her more, but the Nevada Bar will be notified and hopefully The Nevada Bar may take interest in monitoring this type of misconduct moving forward in any event The Nevada Bar will be notified of the name of the firm she is currently working under, regarding her continued acts of attorney misconduct. Megan’s inappropriate acts of misconduct are erroneous, fictitious pleadings based on falsities as she litigates behind her computer as well in open court litigation. Her retainers and fees are and billing are salacious in nature, and should be monitored by her firm, and it’s partners and truly her actions will be concerning to the firm, once they are notified of her misconduct, the name of her firm she works under will certainly be reported to BBB and The Nevada BAR Association and other public blogs and not limited to Consumer Action Bureaus within the State Of Nevada for reporting attorneys of misconduct in the state of Nevada. Don’t believe the self imposed hype of alleged “super lawyer” Megan McHenry for this sub par Attorney McHenry. Clearly she does not practice law in an ethical manner and you will pay top dollar for that.

Ms. Krohn seems to lack integrity. She represneted my uncle in a probate matter in which I received interest in my deceased aunt's property along with my uncle. She filed documents on our behalf, mispelled my name and refused to pay to have it amended, claiming that it was my fault for not recognizing it. Didnt even offer to pay half. I will have to get it amended to record my property interest and also travel from California to Nevada to do so. Very unfortunate.

There are many attorneys in and around Las Vegas, this guy is definetley one you would NOT want to use. If he cannot collect from the person you are persuing, he will go after you and yours to get the almighty dollar. This guy is the worst of the worst. Let me put it this way so everyone can understand... Would you trust a pet rattle snake? Would you even have a pet rattle snake? Then ask yourself, Would you have Jeffrey Sloane as an attorney?. Any good reviews on this individual are probably fake. Any retorts from him would also be false. The review and opinions are my thoughts and beliefs, and the last time I checked, I live in America and I'm allowed to express my thoughts and beliefs, as per my constitutional rights.

I contacted James Kohl in late January for a 144 legal opinion, as he was the new attorney for the public company. After supplying all of the supporting documents, I continued to follow up on progress and received roughly 1 email per week that he was busy, out of the office or working on it. On March 5th, I had to cancel the request due to no replies. I have had roughly 30 144 legal opinions done in the last 5 years through the previous corporate counsel and never waited over 48 hours to receive them. I feel this behavior is completely incompetent and has caused over $25,000 in losses due to his untimely conduct. Great news is I found out anyone can write a legal opinion and does not have to be from corporate counsel, so I contacted a reputable attorney and received the legal opinion within 24 hours after providing all of the documentation that I had sent James Kohl.

This little man has a huge ego. I thought he was just a stuffed suit never offering anything substantial. My experience was he fancied himself as this as a tough and shrewd advocate for his clients, that is, until you sign on the dotted line. Then everything changes. I was his client, but I wasn't paying him. Nevertheless his fiduciary duty should have been to me. He just gravitated to where the money was and just milked it. He made filings and legal representations without my permission or my blessing. He called pointless meetings without anything to say often showing up without a pen or pencil. Nothing written down so he wouldn't have anything to follow up on. I never remember him showing interest in the specifics of the incident that led to the lawsuit after I was his client, eventhough I kept trying to offer it. I was dismissed from the case by the judge for good reason, but not because of anything he did. It was obvious to me he was disappointed that the gravy train was ending. Further, he always has to "work" with another one of his lawyers. It always seemed to me to be just an excuse to double the billable hours for his firm. For me it was John. Nothing good to say about him either.

He did not respond in a timely manner to email, voicemails, and messages. On average, it usually took 2 or more days get in touch. We told him I was not guilty from the very beginning, but rather then assisting with me with it, he strongly insisted that taking the plea was my best choice. He was rude when communicating with and I was usually left more questions than answers. I would actually fear the times when it was necessary to contact him because of how he made me feel. He never answered my most concerning questions, he accused me of being guilty, insisted that my best option was to take the plea. He overlooked important details and made mistakes that were actually submitted to the court. He didn't consider the fact that I live in a different state and set up the plea as if I was a local resident. In official court documents, he got some of the most basic things wrong such as labeling me as 'driver of vehicle', even though i was not the DRIVER and no one else ever thought I was! Including the court and prosecuting attorney.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
