Jerry, Took my case based on his confirming his expertise needed to represent me and my company. He in fact did not and because that my case is stalled. I fired him and I’m looking for another lawyer who had litigated successfully against the State of Nevada Department of Taxation. .

Stephanie is not a good lawyer at all. She appears to have very little experience and is not willing to go the distance, or shall I say she will go the distance to charge funds but does not fight for you within the court room. She is very unprepared and should not practice Family Law. My friends children were placed in a custody position to this day that has been very destructive to their lives. She did not defend her client and her children to the best of her best ability and to this day the children are suffering in the hands of an abusive parent. She got steamed rolled in court by the other side and never brought forward proof of the emotional, educational, and medical abuse that was being done by the other parent. Miss Herdman should go back to school or take on some other area of legal practice. Custody cases should never be in her hands. Then at then end of the case she made out of line comments to her client that make it appear she was in favor of the plaintiff all along. I would not be surprised if she helped the other side intentionally. Do not hire her. These children are doing worse in school with their grades, they fall asleep in class due to no sleep, one ended up with pneumonia due to lack of medical attention and the list goes on and on. He sends them to school with fevers over 104. The plaintiff had more custody because of her and they are suffering badly now

Sean Rose got us the settlement after the car accident but it was far less than the standard settlement of this kind. The law office only calculated doctors fees in the equation, disregarding property damage and possible future doctor visits. They charged us 33% percent of the settlement, THEN their office fees, THEN we had to pay doctors fees ( the one they picked which was not covered by our insurance!) When I voiced my concern , the paralegal told me that is how they do it. Also she told me the other insurance company's argument against us which sounded like our attorney was siding with. Honestly did not feel like they were on our side in the end.

I was referred to the Resident Services department at Karsaz & Associates by my community manager after having received several unverified noise complaints. I was hoping the actual complaints would help me identify any activity associated with the noise. I first contacted "resident services" on September 13th, and followed up sending email asking for a status. Today is September 29th...the only thing I have received is another noise complaint.

He was in the midst of divorcing the mother of his three children for his secretary. He was distracted to say the least. She made several stupid mistakes on important paperwork that cost me money.. Two minutes before entering a court proceeding he told me if I had payed him 10k instead of 5k he would have represented me differently. He also refused to provide crucial testimony as to a case he handled for me prior to this. Completely void of any and all integrity. Unscrupulous.

I did not meet my Attorney Mr. Gary W. Call until 2 years later when my case finally went into the deliberation stage. I got more help from his FORMER Assistant with my case. Things that needed to be followed-up on weren't which caused gaps in treatment which was the main reason this Attorney said "do not go through litigation. If you do I will charge more and drop you." He made me feel had to settle for the little amount the insurance company offered. So being desperate at the time I took the deal and shortly after he was terminated from that firm. I'm not sure what in the world happened but never again!

There are many attorneys in and around Las Vegas, this guy is definetley one you would NOT want to use. If he cannot collect from the person you are persuing, he will go after you and yours to get the almighty dollar. This guy is the worst of the worst. Let me put it this way so everyone can understand... Would you trust a pet rattle snake? Would you even have a pet rattle snake? Then ask yourself, Would you have Jeffrey Sloane as an attorney?. Any good reviews on this individual are probably fake. Any retorts from him would also be false. The review and opinions are my thoughts and beliefs, and the last time I checked, I live in America and I'm allowed to express my thoughts and beliefs, as per my constitutional rights.

I had the misfortune of hiring Michael Cary Van for my legal needs, and it was a disaster from start to finish. Communication was virtually nonexistent; I felt like I was talking to a wall every time I tried to reach him. My calls and emails often went unanswered for days, and when he did respond, it was dismissive at best. His knowledge of the law seemed questionable, as he often provided me with incorrect information that led to costly mistakes in my case. It felt like I was more of a burden to him than a client. The lack of attention to detail was astounding—important deadlines were missed, and it felt like my case was a low priority for him. In the courtroom, his performance was equally disappointing. He appeared unprepared and seemed to lack basic understanding of the arguments we were supposed to present. I left feeling embarrassed and frustrated. Overall, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for legal representation. Save yourself the headache and find someone who actually cares about their clients. Michael Cary Van was an expensive mistake I wish I could take back.

They received more money than I did. I felt very cheated and strung along by the entire experience. They even spoke on making commercials if I received a large settlement. The communication was little to none. RUN fast from there. No good. No integrity...

We hired Ms. Holman to represent our son with an employment-related case. She was pleasant at first, almost too pleasant. She called my husband back a few times to follow up and see if we were interested in meeting with her to discuss things further. This should have been the first red flag. Any attorney with time to follow up with prospective clients must not have a full caseload, and there is a reason for that. We read the reviews here on Yelp and thought we'd give her a chance anyway...big mistake. Once she was paid in full for her services we never heard another thing from Ms. Holman. She also allowed our son's case to expire with the EEOC 90-day cutoff, which ruined his chances for recourse through the legal system against his previous employer. In addition, she never assisted our son with receiving the unemployment funds she claimed she could get for him. She is filled with promises and pumps herself up to be this amazing attorney, but she fails to meet the high level of expertise/standards she claims she has. We filed a grievance against her with the State Bar of Nevada, to which they sent her a letter requesting her response. In addition, we sent her a demand letter (via certified mail and email) for payment in full. As of today, she has returned all of our original funds. I would never recommend her to anyone for representation. Unless you like headaches and irritation, it is our opinion that it would be highly beneficial to avoid any of the so-called services she offers.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?

Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
