I hired Natalie to do a simple, uncontested divorce. From the start, I explained that my ex was difficult and we needed to have everything done right the first time. My ex came to her office and signed all of the paperwork- or so I thought. The day of court, she arrived deshelved and entered the courtroom on her iPhone. Why ? Because she was scrolling and googling what to say to the judge. Seriously. I can't make this crap up. Toward the end, the judge flipped through the paperwork and asked where page x was. Come to find out, she forgot a page. The judge granted my divorce but not the agreement (custody, child support, visitation, etc) because of her incompetence. My ex took full advantage and refused to sign the missing page because he said he didn't trust her. She refused to help me any more and said, You got your $500 worth of work from me. Because of her mistake, I had no court order for support or visitation. It took me hiring another attorney, $10k in debt and receiving no child support for over a year to correct her massive screw up. Her error, point blank, cost me years of my life and thousands of dollars. She is a hot mess and shouldn't be allowed to even practice law.

Hired him for my divorce. Took him 3 months to file first proceeding with Berkeley county court after I retained him! Then an additional year and a half to finalize everything. Here I am, 2 years later, and he still hasnt completed a qdro and I may lose that money because my ex left that company. He will answer my email.and call, promise to do something then doesnt. And worse part is he has already been paid in full 2 years ago! Hire someone else, he does not care about his clients, court was always stressful everything was last minute.

Hired to facilitate a divorce. Everything had been worked out amicably prior to first hearing. Ms Tanner went into room where my spouse and his attorney were waiting and came out in a fury saying all deals are off and going directly to the courtroom. She did not tell me what had transpired between herself and the other attorney but I got caught in the middle and an amicable divorce turned into a bitter protracted process. She is not professional and allows her temper and mood to override her professionalism. Buyer beware.

Hired to close probate on a deceased parents house. Quit responding to phone calls or emails. Failed to close probate. Luckily another law firm in my area was able to fix the mess she left our family with. Afterwards any time I see her in public I'm stared down and cursed at. Very unprofessional and highly uneducated on highly involved cases.

this attorney should be disbarred. I have a court date in 10 days I can't get this guy on the phone. I have gone to his office in person, while he was there, yet I could not get him to speak with me at all. I have already paid this guy $10,000 he will not speak to me. I have had to go to the solicitor's office myself after I filed my own motions for discovery. the solicitor told me that eakes is my attorney and they can not speak to me about the case without him being present, but I can't get eakes to do anything he avoids me and I am terrified of court so do not hire this guy unless you want to be left on your own up spits creek without a paddle

Usually I try to give people the benefit of doubt when doubted. After consideration, I feel compelled to use this platform for someone less fortunate who is in need of a good attorney. Harry Brown is NOT a recommended attorney if you're in need of good success for an injury. My opinion he's a F+ rated counselor with questionable credentials. His arsenal is equipped with no ammunition or auxiliary, he's basically a weak naive attorney wanna be. To add there's no soldier in him to fight the opposition on the other side. Totally disoriented which is an embarrassment and insult to his own race of people he supposedly represent. To reiterate, I feel obligated what is essentially worth mentioning to fore warn someone before retaining Harry Brown Law Firm for counsel. Basically he sat on my case for almost two years without accomplishing anything. His so-called assistant shamefully acts as she's the attorney who has zero credentials of know-how. Hopefully this would be a help to someone who is injured and needs a good attorney who is fortified and ready to go to battle on your behalf and who's not looking for a simplistic case such as being rear ended by an 18 wheeler. Harry Brown Law Office is NOT recommended.

Relatively new attorney in the Strom firm, who is knowledgeable, but is meeting an hourly monthly quota, so your divorce will be dragged on with no forward movement by Patty. Patty also does not play well with others, so do not expect negotiations to happen. Do yourself a favor and keep looking for an attorney that actually wants to settle your case and not destroy your children’s future in the process. Sometime you can be too young and not have enough life experiences to understand the detriment being caused by one’s actions. This is certainly the case with Patty.

The absolute worst example of an attorney I have ever witnessed. None responsive at all. After a month as a retained attorney supposedly protecting the rights of under aged children who just lost a parent, Mr. Jackson returned the retainer citing not enough time to handle the case. Nothing was handled on the children's behalf during the time period.

T. Elliott has no problem having you sign a legal document under manipulation knowing it is a lie even after telling him several times. After he has absolutely no problem lying himself directly to the judge about the issue during the hearing when he absolutely knows without a doubt he is telling a blatant lie. Completely blew my mind, figured being a lawyer you would have some kind of person creed to the laws or at least some kind of morals but I was clearly mistaken.

This lawyer caused unnecessary antagonism between myself and the party I was negotiating with. She intentionally was hostile in her communications thus created a breakdown in our negotiations and prolonged the entire situation. This cost me more in attorney fees than I received in my payouts! Her actions were not professional nor were they helpful in my situations. I would never recommend her to any one. She was spiteful and out to run up her fees.

I hired Attorney Silver and his firm to represent me in a chapter 7 Bankruptcy case. Initially Attorney Silver was very forth coming and thorough; this all changed after all the fees were paid. Attorney Silver will regularly go out of the country to manage his other business abroad which may cause any court dates to be rescheduled to meet his personal schedule. This firm filed all the documents required for the chapter 7 Bankruptcy and the amended filing on time and in accordance with the law. Attorney Silver was present at the rescheduled court date as required. A couple of months following the chapter 7 Bankruptcy dismissal I was contacted by one of the creditors listed and discharged in the filing; they actually placed a lien on my property and subsequently removed the lien. They are now planning to file suit against me personally for charges that were discharged, late fees and attorney costs. Attorney Silver office unwaveringly denies includes the charges in the filing even though I have written proof that his firm included the charges. Attorney Silver office also claims to have negotiated an all-inclusive settlement to save my home; this would have included a first and second mortgage. A year later I received a notice inquiring as to why I have not been paying the second mortgage which is actually a down payment assistance loan. I was informed that it was never included in the settlement agreement; Attorney Silver office said it was included. Why it took a year for the lien holder to contact me is unknown but the fact remains that I have to pay the money back. Now I have two payments due each month. I cannot understand why Attorney Silver office whom I paid in full up front to represent me in what should have been a simple case is not standing by the services or lack thereof services that they rendered?

THIS WOMAN SCREWED ME LEFT AND RIGHT. SHE TOLD ME A LIE EVERY TIME SHE OPENED HER MOUTH. SHE WOULD ATTEND SCHEDULED HEARINGS THAT I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT, AND ACT AS IF SHE HAD INFORMED ME OF THE DATE AND TIME, BUT NEVER TOLD ME ANYTHING.SHE MADE DECISIONS WITHOUT CONSULTING WITH ME. SHE AGREED TO SEVERAL CHANGES IN THE COURT ORDER, AND WOULDN'T NOTIFY ME. I WOULD HAVE TO FIND OUT BY RECEIVING A COPY OF CHANGED ORDERS IN THE MAIL 1-2 WEEKS LATER. SHE TOLD ME THAT I JUST NEEDED TO GIVE UP AND NOT WORRY ABOUT TRYING TO FIGHT BACK. JUST TO GIVE HIM WHAT HE ASKED FOR. BUT THE WORST IS THAT SHE SAID THAT I AGREED TO GIVE MY DAUGHTERS FATHER SOLE CUSTODY OF MY DAUGHTER, WHICH I HAVE RAISED HER ALONE SINCE BIRTH. THE FATHER WAS NEVER A PART OF HER LIFE CONSISTENTLY. THE DAY OF THE FINAL HEARING I WAS TOLD BY DAVIDA, THAT IF I DIDN'T AGREE TO WHAT THEY (THE FATHER AND HIS ATTY) WANTED, I WOULD GO TO JAIL. SHE REFUSED TO TELL ME WHAT THE AGREEMENT WAS, I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BECAUSE SHE HAD PUT SO MUCH FEAR IN ME, ALTHOUGH I HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING TO LOSE CUSTODY OF MY BABY. I REQUESTED A COPY OF THE TRANSCRIPT FOR APRIL 29, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD TAKE ONLY 7-10 DAYS TO PREPARE THE TRANSCRIPT. AND THAT I WOULD GET A COPY IN THE MAIL. WELL I GOT A COPY ALRIGHT, ONE THAT SHE HAD REVISED TO MAKE IT LOOK AS IF I GAVE UP AND GAVE HIM EVERYTHING!! LONG STORY SHORT, ON APRIL 29 AFTER I WAS RELEASED FROM THE LEC, MY DAD RECEIVED A CALL FROM DAVIDA, AND SHE WOULD NO LONGER BE MY ATTY. THIS LADY CALLED AND FIRED HERSELF BECAUSE SHE KNEW THAT EVERYTHING SHE DID AND SAID TO ME WAS WRONG, AND SHE KNEW THAT SHE HAD MESSED UP. TO ME IT SEEMS AS THOUGH I WAS PAYING HER TO HAVE MY DAUGHTER TAKEN AWAY FROM ME AND HER BROTHERS. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT GOD DOES NOT LIKE UGLY AND IT WILL SOON CATCH UP WITH YOU, AND HE WILL HANDLE YOU AND HAVE YOU GO THROUGH A STORM WORSE THAN WHAT SHE PUT ME THROUGH. I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, DO NOT HIRE THIS WOMAN TO REPRESENT YOU IN ANY SHAPE, FASHION, OR FORM FOR ANYTHING!! SHE IS A MONEY HUNGRY PERSON, SHE WILL LIE TO YOU AND TRY TO TAKE EVERY PENNY YOU HAVE.

After reading the review that said that it may seem like she is buddy buddy with the other side, I was hopeful that given enough time all would equal out, but I was sadly mistaken. Her last billing recorded $250.00 of billable time speaking with the other side and Zero, that's right ZERO, time speaking with me. She even paid my stbx a courtesy home visit while I had to practically beg her to visit my home. She believed every word of the lies he told her and never bothered to check even one of them out with me. Her final report was filled with inaccuracies and exaggerations and she recommended full custody for my ex, which he got. Even when I told her my child was a victim of PAS, she wrote in her final report that I called my child a liar. It was a horrible experience, and although I have never before written a review, I felt it necessary in this case.

run very far away- I paid her and she did nothing to my benefit. It was a divorce ,she sent letters to courts and the other lawyer in my divorce that I did not want - got info wrong - let my home go to foreclosure with my inheritance in it - and laughed when court sale was over and said " I will help you " ... I lost 170,000 dollars as the mortgage company just wanted it kept on the market - and I did not know that she could have the judge make my now ex keep it up for sale ... on disability and welfare now- I finished the divorce myself as nothing left - I had to claim bankruptcy as all credit was in my name - & I had the money it was all in my name .. she has no conscience do not trust her as I did

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
