To begin with i having to choose star for rating of his services Joe dose not ever deserve one star ⭐️ Joe Pippen spent 2 min with my father before court case. I was promised that my dad was going to be released Christmas Eve. Joe never turned in paperwork on time to make that happen . Christmas Eve I kept calling & txt week later Dad was released definitely nothing Joe Pippen did bc he did nothing & my father went to treatment in Anderson SC that place lied to me . My dad is 66 yrs old they had him on a top bunk, my dad feel from top bunk hit his head. 2 days later the treatment place put my father on a buss with at midnight took him down town Atlanta & then road a buss dropped him off on broad at 5:00 in the morning. Proper procedure is any person that falls was supposed/ policy taken to ER instead but him on a greyhound . I had reached out to bc Pippen 35 txt & his VM box always full when he was dropped of on 13th st / broad st. He was pushed down from someone & hit his head same place. Long short of my father hadn’t walked to Carpenters automotive shop & they brought him to my house & wouldn’t not taken to ER where he had so much pressure & bleading in same spot we would found my dad dead the next day. . My father had 2. Different times two holes drilled into his scull to relive pressure & bleeding on Brian & one of the procedures he had a stroke. I have never actually had such a horrible experience, a reference suggested by same church my dad been active with for 15 yrs. Now my Dad can’t & will never live by himself & still nothing not word from Pippen nothing but take $3000 and doesn’t have decent bone to at least be respectful & at least return phone call. Also the place of his office states online it’s a law firm . When I drove by today to speak to boss. I was shocked that his office is in the house he lived & grew up in since he was child. It a residential home.

As a lawyer i feel like your job is to help people who need help with cases. Instead i got tossed around from person to person and then when i finally got to Shalonda she was RUDE and it’s very clear she is NOT here to help. If she hates her job this much she really needs to find a new one. I didn’t need to be made out to be an idiot for simply asking why there were extra fees and where i needed to pay. Do not recommend talking to her if you absolutely do not need to. Shame on you, girl!!

Samantha Nelson is the WORST lawyer you could have in your corner! She is condensending and does NOT care about anything but getting paid. She was a gaurdian on a case I had recently. She spent a total of 2 hours with my son for a whole year, cleaimed she worked "overtime" and charged us close to $600. She did Not listen to what he wanted because he was young. She treated me like I was stupid, called my son stupid during trial, made things personal in the middle of trial, and waved my concerns out of reason because she thought she knew best, gave me attitude when it was time to come see the house, and would not even see our new location. She only wanted one thing MONEY! And did not care she was naming my son a ridiculously long name just so he would have the same last name as me, which on its own comes with issues. But she would Not listen to that. To her he had to have my last name, why though? We've had a different last name this whole time and have had NO issues. Yes he wanted to be closer to his Mother, but not have her last name. He wants the orgins of his mother's history, and bring a last name that died out back. But because of Ms. Nelson he has 2 last names in his name which is going to result in him having to change his name twice in his life, and not be able to grow up with the name he wants. Very BAD lawyer! Don't go to her for ANY advice!

Mr. Phillips added me and my spouse to a law suit we knew nothing about simply based on word of mouth from the person filing the law suit. When we learned of the law suit and called and asked him about it, we were told we would have to show id to have our names removed from the law suit. We went showed Id ad it took several phone calls and threats by mail and email to finally get our names removed which was 45 days later. Which he had it posted on the law suit it was being removed at the request by me by a letter and NOT the document we signed in his office some 45 days before.

South Carolina Attorney, Joshua Koger, Jr., after being court appointed to represent me, filed a false police report against me, causing me to serve a total of 30 months in jail! All charges were dismissed! I lost my job and vision insurance, all my personal possessions and suffered from worsened cataracts, while incarcerated. I have filed a civil rights action against Koger and others. Visit: https://unicourt.com/case/pc-db5-laconey-v-lott-et-al-998465

Doesn't have a clue about anything ! I hired him to handle a simple divorce where everything was all ready sorted out after a 1 year marriage. 4 years later I still can not get my maiden name back, because of their errors and they want more money, and I have never gotten an itemized bill for the almost $3000.00 he has already gotten. I call constantly trying to get them to do what they should have already done and and they never return calls. Like Isaid never will I use them and never will I give them a recommendation !!!!!

This lady is a joke! She was biased and completely incompetent when it comes to investigating for the child’s best interest. She intentionally left out key details in her final report, failed to investigate areas that were specifically asked of her by my lawyer and I, and important evidence like my P.I report showing my ex taking my children to the liquor store two times, and xray photos of my child’s broken arm that happened under his dads care were all left out of the report.. Her investigation was completely false, inadequate, and all around just inconclusive. She ignored text messages and emails proving my ex is an alcoholic, and all other concerns I confronted her with. She caused me to lose my case. I’m now hiring an attorney to fix the mess she has caused due to her negligence and poor investment in my case. She should not be allowed to ever step foot in the court room again, especially when it comes to representing someone’s children. She should be ashamed of her behavior and what she has caused my family.

After being invited to represent our father's potential wrongful death lawsuit by a family member, I was on a conference call with this attorney and asked one question: What is the statute of limitations of this case? After weeks of preparing for the conference call, Bell did not know the name of the hospital, whether the hospital was public or private, or what the statute of limitations was. One of my family members had to explain basic information to him. He then claimed that I was "cross-examining" him by asking one question. When I heard that there was only two months left in the statute of limitations to copy and present all relevant medical records, change authority of the executor of the estate and and file a case, I expressed a sense of frustration. At this point Bell simply said he was not interested in working with us because of family stress and hung up the phone.

A lady ran a red light and hit me in 2018. When in court she said she had proof. The court told me Ms. Vaughn would be representing me. Her "representation" consisted of me calling her the two times we spoke on the phone. She never contacted me. The last time we spoke she indicated it would be a matter of "he said/she said" and unless she had something to work with she would recommend dismissing the case. That is what she did when my next court date came and went. I heard nothing. I took a business card of a body shop mechanic who was on scene at the time of my accident who had the same last name as the lady who hit me which zi thought suspicious. I took this to City Hall to be forwarded to Ms. Vaughn and heard nothing. The police cited the lady who hit me with "failing to obey a traffic signal" but due process and Ms Vaughn both failed me as a jury never got to hear the case. I would not recommend her.

Kelly Pope Black was once a sitting judge. I went before her for a divorce because my husband was abusive. I was not allowed to talk about the abuse because my husband never showed up to court, so I couldn’t tell her he broke my back. She accused me of walking funny and I had to accept it. She told me I was lying about not using drugs and made me take two ten panel drug tests and told me if she didn’t know the people she sent me to personally, she’d think I faked the results. I was called mentally ill and had my custody of my son split between myself and my mother. I was in the beginning stages of realizing I had ptsd. It was incorrectly categorized as depression at first. I have memory loss because of the ptsd. I’d forgotten an incident of my past, blissfully, because I forget so little of the abuse, that Kelly pope black accused me of lying about. She sent me to jail for two weeks to obtain my divorce. Because of her, I lost faith in the justice system. It took me TEN YEARS to get up the courage to start getting my life back together after coming before her. I was insanely affected by this woman and she was removed of her judgeship due to her temperament and the way she treated people. I’m horrified she’s still allowed to practice law.

Absolutely would not recommend, if you must use Public Defenders office, then do not use Parks Small. Ask for one of the assistant Public Defenders to do your case if you can not afford an actual attorney. Parks Small is responsible for all t he offices in the state of South Carolina and spend a week at each one and your case will get little help. After providing documents, witness contact information, none was entered into evidence, he provided no counseling on his direct examination when I was placed on the stand, just told me to explain in my own words, which I was totally unprepared for. He misquoted information to the jury which was a large part to my conviction and failed to object to outright lies told to the jury by the prosecution, despite having exculpatory evidence to show that he was misleading and lying to the jury in my case that I took to trial. The representation provided was subpar and in my opinion Parks Small is too old to handle this position and was handled like a newly graduated law student against the younger prosecutor in my particular case. This was simply a few of the poor representation provided by Mr. Small, but I would recommend you beware and take note that you do not want him handling your criminal trial. His handling of the matter caused an jury verdict of guilty and 78 months in Federal Prison.

Ms. Lapham did nothing to defend my loved one, and in fact, she worked with the prosecution to help bury him even though one of the supposed victims in the case made several statements that my husband wasn't guilty. Ms. Lapham used medical excuses on multiple occasions to get out of doing her job and held up the trial process more than a year and a half. I'm honestly not sure how she passed the bar. I'm disgusted that she continues to practice law, and I will pray that others don't fall prey to her malfeasance.

My sister and I had power of attorney papers made up for our mother and hired Mr. Jordan to handle it. He misspelled my sisters name throughout the documents. Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
