Mandy from the beginning knows her stuff. Ms. Petrocelli is very knowledgeable, down to the judges and prosecutor's. Mandy really wants the best for you. Listen we all make mistakes and this is the lawyer you need, when that one poor mistake should not ruin your life. My Felony charge was dismissed, I need not say more. Hire Mandy, she will get the job done.

Hired Ms. Petrocelli to help me with a small matter that seems as if it could either turn out as a slap on the wrist or jail time and a fine for me-depending on how it's handled. So far, she has been very unprofessional. She will not return phone calls or emails regarding my case. All I would like is an update about what's going on for the next court date. I gave her my retainer and she has just disappeared on me with another court date to go! My advice is to find someone a bit more reliable.

If you want to lose a lot of money and then lose in court, hire Mr. Sris. Rescheduled my court date and I didn't even bother telling me. In addition to this nerve-racking experience, did not put any effort in defending me in court the second time around. And at the end I had a feeling that he represented the prosecutor, not me. During the initial intake it felt like it was all about how awesome he is and not about the client's needs. Highly questionable work ethics led to a terrible outcome at the end. Just an awful experience overall. Stay away. Do not repeat my mistake of trusting this person. Guys like him are the reason people don't trust lawyers. I wish there was a way to disbar him or at least to give him minus five stars. Just an awful person.

My father has used him and thinks he is amazing. Now I used him and I think he is amazing. He won my DUI case in Fairfax Virginia in 10 minutes. He spent time talking to me about my case and I was so nervous because I go to George Mason and I need my license to drive to classes. He waited the whole day because the prosecutor put my case at the end of the docket and then he took it to trial. He told me he was going to fight for me and he did. Best part is that he won. EW

Mr. Sris has been our family attorney for the better part of 12 years. In that time he has helped my family with a number of different criminal cases. Mr. Sris is an amazing attorney and I would strongly recommend him to anyone seeking one of the best Attorney's in Virginia. Specifically, Mr. Sris helped my brother with 2 misdemeanors, myself with multiple felonies and my dad with an amazing jury trial. His width and breadth of his knowledge of criminal law was incredible. His staff who speak Spanish are so on top of it. He even helped me become a US Citizen when everybody else thought I was going to be deported after almost 20 years in the US. Again I cannot recommend Mr. Sris enough, he will continue to be my attorney for the foreseeable future and a trusted adviser in my ventures going forward. JP

I recently had the opportunity to work with Van Hooser & Aguirre, P.C, and I must say that the entire experience was seamless, well-executed, and thoroughly explained. Given the sensitive nature of divorce proceedings, I appreciated the staff's professionalism and dedication to making the process as smooth as possible. From the initial consultation to the finalization of my divorce, the entire team was extremely helpful and responsive to my needs. They were always available to answer my questions and accommodate my scheduling requests. I found the retainer rate to be fair and competitive compared to other attorneys and law firms in the area. I was particularly impressed with the level of communication and transparency throughout the process. The team kept me well informed every step of the way. Overall, I am very pleased with the services rendered by Van Hooser & Aguirre, P.C. assistance and the supporting staff. While I hope to never have to go through a divorce again, I would not hesitate to recommend this firm to anyone in a similar situation. I signed up for a 30 minute consultation on the VA Bar website and chose this firm in order to have some help on a pending child support case. I must say this is the most unprofessional and unresponsive law firm I’ve ever used. I sent an he documents I have and they ignored it for a week only to call me and say we won’t talk to you until you go to the court and figure out every paper for this case and then send it. Last time I checked that is the lawyers job upon retaining. The purpose of my consultation was to get a better understanding of what to do and make a game plan and hopefully hire them to do more. They make you fill a form out and then will not even speak to you without all documents???? This is a consult. We can get in the weeds if I decide you’re worth my time as an attorney. A consult is for getting to know each other and seeing if we are a good fit for the case at hand. I would not recommend anyone using this firm. If they are this way on a consult they are probably worse after hired.

I had the fortune of enlisting James Wilson for a very sensitive and complex estate and probate case. His expertise and experience were immediately apparent, bringing a sense of assurance to a tumultuous situation. Despite the substantial division and potential for conflict, James navigated the proceedings with acute legal acumen and a strategic finesse that can only come from years of specialized practice. His approach to the legal process was impressively efficient, never losing sight of the goal while avoiding any unnecessary delays. James's pragmatic nature shone through in his ability to propose practical solutions that were fair and aimed at achieving the best possible outcome. James's fee structure was very reasonable and fair, a reflection of his straightforward and equitable approach to law. It's rare to find an attorney who embodies such integrity in every aspect of their work, including billing. Beyond his professional capabilities, James showed a remarkable degree of empathy and understanding. He managed to strike the perfect balance between being a fierce advocate for my interests and a compassionate advisor through emotionally charged moments. The result of James's work left me more than satisfied—I was ecstatic. The success of the case was undoubtedly due to his legal prowess and dedicated approach. If you're in need of a trustworthy and highly competent attorney in estate and probate matters, look no further than James Wilson.

This is an extremely unethical attorney. Mr.Wilson, I have reached out to you several times to inform that the company that calls you insensately is not us. I have sent you proof. I also have phone call recordings to that company (not us) claiming to be us. I have informed you I have sent them a cease and desist. That company goes by the website fivestarreviewSITE that is NOT us. They are also mediation.com look them up at BBB. Not us. I have asked you kindly to remove the review. You have not. I will now sue you for defamation of character and slander of my business. I have also reported you to the BAR ethics committee as you are trying to hurt my business willfully.

Tara was amazing with my custody case back in 2021-2022, she fought hard so I can win custody back of my daughter and did everything in her power to do so, even with my daughters mothers side thinking they were going to win again and trying their best so they can win. But not this time, I had an amazing lawyer who fought hard so I to can have my daughter with me, I wish I could still have her as a lawyer now because lord going through lack of communication, not being on top of her medical appointments and not putting our daughters education first, but I had to go through bankruptcy back then because yes fees are high and wasn’t able to pay what I owed. But at the end of the day I would rehire her if I needed and wanted to!

I hired Ms. Steinnerd for a child support case and her passive aggressive behavior towards me before, during, and after trial were appalling. It was obvious during court she not only didn't go through all my documents but she didn't even notify me that I would be taking the stand until 10 minutes before I entered the court room. Ironically, she did call me that morning to ask me a question and even then, did not inform me I would be taking the stand that afternoon. What attorney doesn't prepare their client for trial?? In addition, she was incredibly nasty towards me during the trial and treating me like an adolescent when in fact her behavior needed to be checked. While waiting in the lobby for the judge to make the final decision she had the audacity to blame me for the trial's outcome, told me I was argumentative, was unprepared for trial, and did not go through all my documents. The way she treated me was appalling, from this experience I was able to keep a cool head despite her snatching my own cell phone out of my hands when I tried to calmy explain something to her and all the while blaming me for her faults. Her exact words, "You expected me to run the numbers for you didn't you"? Yes, ma'am that would have made a lot of sense instead of looking foolish in the court that day. If you added up the numbers from my ex-husband you could have done the same for me, and that's how I found out you didn't open the attachments provided. Not only did I not want to go to trial, but I consistently told her I did not want the support lowered. My child support was lowered because of documents I clearly told her I could provide her the year prior, and she didn't want, she didn't go through all of my paperwork, and literally growled at me during trial when she found out information about me that she should have known as I provided her all-necessary documentation way before the trial began. Ironically my neighbor also has her as an attorney and indicated she can be incredibly aggressive when things don't go her way. Remember you are the client and you're paying for her services; no one should be made to feel disrespected or blamed for the outcome of a trial they were unprepared for. You pay your attorney to do their job and in no way, shape or form should you be belittled in front of others for THEIR lack of commitment to the job. Respect should go both ways. I would not hire this attorney or recommend her to anyone as she can be incredibly nasty and disregard what you want as a client. I highly suggest you read the reviews prior to hiring her to represent you.

She is very direct and keeps it "real" I like the way she carried herself and her confidence and bluntness may be misinterpreted by some dingbats as arrogant but I assure you that she is top notch and has the experience and credentials to back that up. I would highly recommend her . I checked the other reviews, on here before writing mine, there are some negative ones and I'm my opinion, they are just not accurate

My wife and I hired Mr. Scholar with the intent of estate planning purposes (creating our will). Mr. Scholar charges an initial up front fee of $300, then an additional $300 once the will is complete. The process went relatively smooth until the day we were supposed to stop in to sign the will (made an appointment for 9:30am on August 06, 2021). Prior to the appointment I notified Mr. Scholar that my wife was very pregnant, but we wanted to get this done so we proceeded forward. On the day of the appointment my wife and I had meetings and the appointment ultimately slipped our minds, 100% our fault. Mr. Scholar called me at 9:39am and I immediately offered my sincere apologies, asked if we could stop by at his convenience, and offered to jump in our vehicle immediately and be at his office ASAP (roughly 5 minute away from our house), which would have resulted in roughly a 15 minutes delayed time from our initial appointment, all to which he stated would not work and proceeded to inform me how he had changed his out of town plans for us to sign the will, and was at a "loss for words" (paraphrasing). I once again offered my sincere apologies, and he continued to speak demeaning and ended the call with a very sarcastic "I'm sorry as well" (referencing us making the appointment) before hanging up on me. I do not believe anyone (especially a customer) should be spoken to like this, and am appalled that a professional (let along someone with a law degree) would do so. My wife and I will be losing out on the initial $300, and moving our business elsewhere for estate planning. This is just our experience, but will definitely not utilize Mr. Scholar's services again nor recommend him to any of our contacts.

Initial consultation was free and he suggested a strategy for my divorce case, as soon as I hired him, he would not return my calls/emails. If you are a woman of color, please do not hire him. He bullied me during my most vulnerable phase of life, over charged me and then Nancy Duff refunded some of my money. He was in my corner during during and also did not help get the community property due from my ex- after the judge granted it. During the trial of my divorce, he went out for dinner with my ex and his lawyers. The next day at the trial, he came disorganized and kept his nose stuck into paper work while the ex's lawyer was questioning me on irrelevant issues. He is disorganized and does not go through all his emails. If I were the woman that I am now, I would never hire him to represent me during my divorce.

I hired Mr. Kronfeld after another attorney had a conflict of interest. With little information and only a few days, Mr. Kromfeld stepped in and was successful with that portion of my case. He was very careful in how he crafted the retainer agreement. I now know how important the retainer agreement is. I should have identified all that I needed and not bank on unwritten verbal promises. Written promises fulfilled. Verbal promises unfulfilled.

We discussed a probate situation where my brother had recently passed. He agreed to take my case and provide me with all the necessary paperwork to close the probate process. Unfortunately, after several attempts to contact to Sam, when he DID respond, he said he was only a coach, and that was it. So when I approached him with questions about my case, he kept responding vaguely, "I'm your coach." After several attempts to reach some understanding, I realized I needed to go with a real lawyer to remedy the situation in a timely manner. Best of luck.

Mr. Doyle was one of the worst decisions I’ve made throughout the entirety of my divorce process. From sending a separation agreement with conversational, sensitive track change notes to my husband to taking four days to return an emergency phone call/email, he is the definition of a novice attorney. If you have children or have any other circumstances of a sensitive nature, look elsewhere for representation or you’ll be flushing your retainer down the toilet.

Doers are the ones who usually see the glass half full, are good listeners and problem solvers. Mr. Doyle and Ms. Membreno exemplified this type of people when they accepted my case which was fairly complicated. They listened when I explained my situation, and then responded positively that my case fit within a legal framework. They then found a solution by asking me for documentation and drafting a solid petition to present to the court that resulted in a favorable outcome and resolved the problem. During my consultation with Mr. Doyle, he thoroughly and professionally explained to me the process and what to expect. He ably demonstrated his expertise as a seasoned attorney while answering all of my questions. During the latter stage of my case, working with Ms. Membreno was truly a pleasure. She was a very approachable and professional paralegal. Ms. Membreno demonstrated thorough substantive knowledge and ensured that communication channels were open as well as keeping me informed every step of the process. I would highly recommend Livesay and Myers P.C. office to other people and would specifically recommend working with Mr. Doyle and Ms. Membreno for legal representation.

Despite the distance and then the pandemic quarantine, Chris Doyle was very friendly, responsive, professional, and got the job done. Rossy Membreno kept me up to date even if just to let me know they had not heard back from another party yet. Between the excellent customer service and the follow through, I could not have had a better experience. Highly recommended.

This attorney answered my questions but informed me it would be a long process and by the time we finished I would owe her $200,000.00 - 400,00.00 US dollars what a crock!!! Then she sent me a bill for our 6 minute conversation over the telephone for $ 400.00. Which they stated she charged $400.00 an hour. How does 6 minutes constitute one hour. I would like a refund of the $1500 I paid to you to represent my case. You came to court twice. I repeatedly asked you to file a motion of discovery and you did not. At one point you told me you did and when I asked you how long do they have to respond? You admitted you had not filed it. One court date was canceled and the second time you said next to nothing in my defense and began visibly shaking from nerves. I had tangible evidence of my innocence and you previously told me under the law that I would not be convicted and if for some reason I was than we would take it to a jury trial. After I was wrongfully convicted I asked you to submit the paperwork to take it to trial and you told me you could no longer represent me because you were hired by another law firm that wanted you to complete the cases you were working on before taking the position with them. I have found out you are still in your own practice and chose not to represent me to the fullest extent of the law like you were paid to do. This was a clear violation of your code of ethics. If you are unwilling to send me the fee I paid to you for representation I will have to file a report with the American Bar Association and the State Bar Association to request disciplinary action because of lawyer incompetence and malpractice. I will also request a copy of the court transcript, video footage and documents submitted to the courts for my case to file a civil suit for the money paid for representation that was not earned through due diligence and proper representation. I look forward to hearing from you in a timely manner for a refund to take care of this. Thank you for your time and attention.

It's been a long time since I had a consultation with Ms. Winter, but I remember her well; well enough to never use her. I suspect Ms. Winter is a very good and ruthless attorney; a good person to have on your side. She is however very rude and impatient. After I got my consultation, I vowed to never use her again.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
