The worst experience with these thieves, they lie telling you that they can help you and they don't even know about immigration laws, I had to endure a lot of stress and invest time and money for several months for nothing because at the end they told me that I did not qualify for my petition for a very obvious reason that they already knew from the beginning. The worst of all this was dealing with the disgusting and disrespectful attitude of Mrs. KARINA, Iván Yacub wife. Besides, they do not have good communication with their clients by not reporting anything with the progress of your case, much less answering your calls or emails, I got to the point of having to go look for them at the office after a long day of work. The day I went to get my refund, Mrs. Karina almost pushed me out of the office to the point of shut the door on me and hitting me. they made me lose a lot of money. Definitely don't waste your time or money with these unprofessional people.

I hired Attorney Frei for a family member. I was their POwer of Attorney. . I handled all aspects of helping to prepare a personal injury suit including settlement negotiations. I was assured my expenses would be reimbursed. Upon settlement and an award of 875,000.00, I presented Attorney Frei my costs of 4,000.00. Not only did he not reimburse me, but he ignored emails and phone calls. I have no choice but to report him to the Virginia Bar

Our auto liability case just settled and we are happy that our representation was superior and exceeded our expectations. Steve and his associate Matt took our case even though it was a week from the filing due date and it wasn't particularly big bucks. At trial, we got 30% more than the insurance co offered. They both showed excellent judgement as all of their recommendations were spot-on. At all times, they prepared and discussed our concerns thoroughly, keeping us well informed. I work closely with many top lawyers for more than two decades and can be fairly critical and meticulous, probably more so than their peers would say, so its no small matter to say I found their work to be very competently done and I highly recommend him.

To Whom It May Concern; July 28, 2014 Attorney Steven Frei and his staff were a God-send to me and my 88 yr. old uncle. My uncle was severely injured for the rest of his life, as a passenger in an automobile accident. I live in Miami, FL and the accident happened in Fairfax, VA. Mr. Frei came highly recommended from attorney's in Florida. Mr. Frei resolved our lawsuit this month July 2014 extremely satisfactory. I am so grateful to Mr. Frei and his law team for their expertise, for being so thorough, considerate, patient and truly caring about his client (my uncle) in order to reach justice and the proper/fair restitution for damages my uncle suffered from then, now and the rest of his life. Mr. Frei is a true professional and gentleman with integrity...NOT easily found in today's society. I know because I have worked with many attorney's throughout my life, being a professional business person and I know the difference. That is "why" I am taking the time to write this accreditation...to help other's in need, seeking an EXCELLENT attorney and law firm. I "highly" recommend Attorney Steven Frei and his law firm. Sincerely, Michele & Jack from Florida

My husband hired Mr. Dildy last year for a custody case. He got him to court quickly for the emergency case. After the first hearing my husband was granted temporary physical custody of the kids. After that first hearing was finished is when David began dragging his feet and making excuses for why we couldn’t press concerns and other issues. He would say on numerous occasions that he didn’t like to fight, he wasn’t going to throw stuff at the wall, and that he felt sorry for the other side (mother). He would tell us that by letting the children go visit her and having the bad stuff continue to happen it would only be better for court and would give us more to use against the mother (instead of finding ways to prevent them from going to the mother’s home and allowing the incidents to continue to happen). We had already NUMEROUS reasons why the kids were in danger! We didn’t need more reasons! He wouldn’t use those though! When we would call with concerns, he would tell us history stories and on numerous occasions the calls would end with him asking us to give information to the mother instead of protecting us and the children. We spent several thousands and thousands of dollars BEGGING David to help, defend, and guide us for the children’s sake. He lied about submitting documents that we found out once the case finished from our new attorney, which costs us thousands (and he had told us he had submitted after asking him multiple times). David works when you tell him you are going to seek another attorney but other than that he will not! He will manipulate you and smooth talk you. At one point he convinced people involved in the case that the children weren’t being abused, which was the entire case!! You would be better off not having an attorney, he is a nightmare! He literally works against you and takes all your money. He also urinates while speaking with you on the phone. Thank goodness we fired him! Thank goodness! Our new attorney literally cost a quarter of what David cost, worked 2x longer than him and actually finished the case with having us show up 1 time out of 3 court hearings. I would run from him and not look back. It is scary that David is in charge of helping people’s lives, especially children!

My husband and I hired Mr. Didly three years and every year we won. I hired Mr. Dildy again for the fourth time, due to the child's mom still not complying with the court order. That's when Mr. Dildy said we are going for custody, not knowing Mr. D’s strategy, we worrying, lordy I was. Once Mr. Dildy gets into the courtroom he is in a winning zone. We won our custody battle case, thanks to Mr. DILDY and the wonderful friendly staff at Weisberg & Weisberg law firm. To anyone that may be reading this review be patient, comply with the court order, write down the evidence if the other parties not complying with the court order, and try to get along with the other parties that are involved. It helps the child in many ways. A custody case is a very sensitive, draining, and overwhelming case for everyone who’s involved especially the child. I know this was a long review but it was well worth writing and hoping I can help someone else make the right decision in finding the right lawyer to represent them well in the courtroom. Will I hire Mr. D again? Yessssss I WILL!

We used McCarthy and Akers for two of our house closings (selling and buying), and we were very impressed by their professionalism, friendliness, and willingness to explain each step of the process. And when our buyer’s title company had made an error on the buyer’s documents, McCarthy and Akers caught it and got everything squared out with them before we signed the paperwork. We were so impressed that my wife and I came back to them when we decided to make our wills. Doug McCarthy, Dan Mitchell, and their team made the process extremely simple and explained all of our options that made it very easy to understand. We filled out a small packet ahead of time to give them pertinent information, and when we came for our initial meeting, Doug and Dan were prepared, and we were able to go through all the necessary information in 30 minutes. They had refreshments for us as well to top it all off! I recommend McCarthy and Akers to my family and friends, and I would do the same for anyone who needs the services they have to offer.

I had no idea what was going on with my case. he will never contact other party attorney without me asking him. he had no clue how to deal with lawyers in general. every time an issue arrises he comes to me for counseling. he had no professional advise to give me nor did he give me any idea of how to resolve the problem. he only knows basic administrative task and how to fill up forms provided by the court. he has very little knowledge about contested cases. it is very scary to deal with an attorney who will not tell you that he has no idea about how to handle a contested case but he will continue so that his pride does not get affected. He will never keep me posted about my case and he will never give me a copy of any documents. he will randomly file motion with the court and send me letter saying a motion has been filed and I have to attend the court. I wouldn't have a clue what the motion is about. when I call him, he will never answer my phone and he will never reply to my messages. I had to go to the court to pick up documents that he filed with the court and try to understand my self what it is about. I went through sever stress dealing with him as compared to my divorce. I had to fire him immediately when I realized that my case was going nowhere and he is just collecting my money.

LATE TO COURT, overcharges, pompous ( and for no reason-it's not like he's good)...He took a divorce case with my father whom has cognitive issues, which he was aware of and didn't refer him to an attorney that specializes in divorces. I share this because I don’t want this to happen to someone else. I was afraid of lawyers, afraid of being financially taken advantage of. This was, unfortunately, what happened in my experience with Doug Weatherley. I wish I had read the reviews prior to meeting with/retaining him & actually heeded those reviews. Doug charged me for services unrelated to the retainer I signed for without making me aware ahead of time. He charged hundreds of dollars for simple emails that only took minutes to read/respond to & charged an outrageous amount just receive an email on my behalf (no response on his part, literally just received an email). He charged me to forward emails that I didn’t ask for him to or know that I was being charged for. Then, after knowing the retainer I had struggled to come up with was gone/literally wasted by his immoral actions, he asked for more money to retain him for the matter he had already began charging my prior retainer for without my knowledge/consent. I had asked him for his help in that second matter until he asked for more money & I saw the statement showing where my money was wasted. I truly thought he was forwarding those emails on the unrelated/unretained matter as an act of kindness. I was wrong and I paid for it. It was devastating to put trust in someone & need help then have them do this. I will be very careful in the future & take time to research more carefully when selecting an attorney. Aside from the money, he also guided me in the wrong direction. He didn’t take time to listen & fully understand my full situation. It was rushed & when I explained the rationale for my choices, he insisted we could have gotten what I originally wanted. It wasn’t about what I wanted, it was about what was right for all involved. I am happy that I chose to do the right thing & not listen to Mr. Weatherley. To the reader reading this, good luck & best wishes.

The worst lawyer I have had done business with in over 35 years in business. Will never return calls in a timely manner and if he does only after the deadline is over. Don’t waste your money he will ask for larger deposit than he says he really needs but it’s gone in a flash without any results to show for a clear waste of money. You are better off running away from this lawyer. If I could have given him a zero I would have. Very chaotic in his thinking but trust me will not forget to bill you when he thinks of your name. And once you find out that he hasn’t done something correct he will charge you twice. Long story short , I would not even Recommend him to my worst enemy.

Ms. Pack did the absolute bare minimum for me and my custody case. She had all the information and evidence needed to make a very strong win, yet did almost nothing. She was unprepared for every hearing and trial, did not present any of the pages upon pages of documentation I provided her, and basically just stood up and told the judge that it's in the kids' best interest to be with me, without showing the hard facts right in front of her. i would've been better off representing myself! She very clearly doesn’t care, or doesn’t know what she’s doing.

Two days after we met, I had some additional questions and called the office, leaving 4 messages from Tuesday to Friday with the Asssistant/Receptionist and never received a return phone call. By Wednesday, I asked if she was out of town just so I could get an idea of when she may return the call and was told that she was not and was in the office. On the last call, the Receptionist hung up on me. Since I am a busy medical professional, I did not have time for these games. On the following Thursday, I dropped by the office to see if I could catch her in and was told she was out of the country and rudely assured she had received my messages. The female voice was recognized as the one who had accepted my calls. If she worked in my office, and I hire many, many people, she would have been fired immediately. She is the rudest, most arrogant, confrontational individual that I have come across and should never be working with the public. Three days later, I spoke with a very nice gentlemen by the name of John, who promised to relay the message to her. I finally reached Suzette after she returned and she stated she had never received any of my messages. I know it is very difficult to obtain good, competent staff these days but this was ridiculous. Mrs. Hutchens came highly recommended but sometimes an employee can make you or break you. The front desk person is the first point of contact in any business and should be someone that will make Clients feel welcome. This woman does not belong there. She is a menace to an otherwise good law firm and can ruin a reputation quickly.

I unfortunately have to agree with the Yelp review that someone wrote in 2012. Oh my, his daughter was right, there was no problem with Ms. Hutchens but that older woman that answers the phone freaked me out as well. SHE IS NUTS! She is still the front desk and will talk about putting a spell on you and black magic potions. What he said was right on. What happened to professional staff in a law office and why would this beautiful office hire someone like this. Yes, I agree, don't accept her offer for a beverage.

Ryan Hamrick is that kind of attorney. He does not care that his responsibility as an ad litem is to fully assess the situation and fight for kids rights. If you have the choice to NOT have this guy represent you then I highly suggest you go with someone else. The fact that he’s running for judge tells me everything I need to know about the Mt Dew fueled toothless mountain law that runs the “Commonwealth “ of Virginia.

Had a complaint on an attorney here that messed up a trust and the receptionist told me I needed to speak with the firm's administrator, Lori Holland. I called and left Lori six voice different voice mail messages within a span of two weeks and she refused to return my calls. Terrible customer service for an administrator to refuse to speak with one of their firm's clients that has a complaint.....that is her job.

She was the court appointed attorney for my kids, who claimed to fight for their needs. After repeatedly saying that they wanted less time with their dad and stepmom, she literally became a second attorney for my ex husband. We went 7 months without any contact from her, then less than a week before trial she pops back up and only visited him. My kids asked for no more than a week with their dad each month. Their dad wants to split custody and her entire report stated his argument. She did not do her job and now my son texts me almost every week that he is with his dad saying how much he hates it there. It’s sad and depressing. She did not do her job.

As a long standing client of Ms. Cornatzer's, I had a child custody case in which she was my attorney. After one consultation, she was hired. She was very professional, punctual and honest. Due to her vast knowledge in juvenile law, I felt confident in her abilities to represent my case. I was kept informed of all correspondence in my case and there were no issues communicating with Ms. Cornatzer. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing legal assistance in the state of Virginia, specifically the Tidewater/Hampton roads area.

I hired Attorney Cornatzer Slate for my difficult divorce. During this overwhelming experience, she lifted the weight of worry of confusion by explaining all of my rights and options and the best way to handle everything. From the first consultation to the final court date, she was very informative, knowledgeable and supportive. This woman is compassionate and caring, but also a force to be reckoned with in the court room. I highly recommend her and will use her for any future legal needs!

Do not expect Mr. Robl to keep track of the time he has worked on your case, or to provide you with accurate information. Ask him every time you speak to him how many hours you have left on your retainer, and make sure it matches your records. In my case, Mr. Robl informed me that I still had money left on my retainer, but would need to provide him with additional money soon. I advised him that I did not have any additional money and therefore I needed to settle my case (which I did immediately). Shortly thereafter, I received a bill for a very large amount of money. When I reached out to Mr. Robl to clear up these charges, he explained that the information he had previously provided was not accurate. I was upset to hear it, and didn't have the money he was now saying that I owed him. I went back to check all of my records, and still did not come up with the hours he was claiming to have worked on my case. When I called him back in attempt to work something out, he would not answer. I left multiple messages. He refused all of my phone calls and emails, and never responded to me again. Rather than speak to me, someone he was representing, he SUED me, resulting in a judgement. Adding insult to injury, he actually included his legal fees (not just costs) for representing himself in the lawsuit! Please be very cautious when considering Mr. Robl to represent you. I've never felt so wronged before in my life, and would hate for anyone else to go through what I did.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
