Howard came off as petty, extremely unprofessional, unresponsive, irate and frankly quite rude. He would not respond to countless e-mails, failed to answer countless phone calls, refused to return messages, and held hostage important files and paperwork without reason or merit. I would not recommend his services whatsoever.

This Brooklyn DA is Awful! She doesn't care about women of color who are assaulted in the streets of Brooklyn, NY. She stated that my case would be taken seriously if I was a women living in the Upper East Side and that I should contact my council members to complain. What a sad excuse for a District Attorney.

If I can give this man a zero rating , I would . My husband and I purchased a home and my husband told him to make sure that my name is on the deeds. When it came to closing , surprise! He didn’t do what he was told . His response was “ either way in the divorce you will still get half no matter what !” This guy is unprofessional and curses way too much . It caused conflicts in my marriage due to his in-responsibility. Now due to him , we need to pay to do get my name on there .

I hired her for my divorce case...that was big mistake. She lost original documents that was very important for my case, didn't show up on my trial date...she is NOT RESPONSIBLE... Just call to Grievance committee and you will find out that where were a lot of complaints against her. There was several cases against her in Civil Court which she lost. By the way I met few her old clients and they all disappointed with her as a lawyer

Mr Lihovsky performed closing for us. After closing we needed to obtain additional documentation, which to this day were never provided. In general we found Ben Lihovsky to be very unreachable and unresponsive. We called him numerous times and left messages with no response. His office hours are unknown and we personally were not able to reach him in the office. In addition numerous e-mails were sent and none of them were ever answered. We tried to get in touch with him through numerous people for more than 5 months. As a result we never received any kind of feedback from Mr Lihovsky nor his assistant (if available). Such business practice is very irresponsible and unprofessional. We cannot comment on his ability to perform legal work as there is no way for us to check quality or correctness of above mentioned. However Mr Lihovsky communication ability is unacceptable.

Reviews my case and my documents. Tells me my options to approach the case - tells me he will call me back in 3 hours to figure out timing of setting case in motion. I told him my case was time sensitive. He knew I needed to get back to someone the next day. 3 hours came and went. He never called me back. I send him an email at night asking when I will hear from him. He never writes me back. I leave him a voicemail - he never calls me back. Nothing! I was (reluctantly) going to hire him and he just never bothered to recontact me. Completely unprofessional. I also felt he steered me away from a topic for personal reasons, because it was in his best interest, but not in the best interest of his (almost) client. I would go elsewhere to someone who has a higher level of professionalism and personal integrity.

I highly do not recommend this crazy so called lawyer. She not only abused me my family but all of my witnesses. This so called lawyer Antonietta and the rest of the team ruined my divorce as a result I lost all of my assets and investments to defendant. Definitely terrible customer service and hysterical professionalism. I am also very unhappy with the losses I sustained to the crooked defendant and his crooked lawyer. If I ever (which I hope I don’t) need Monaco is the one I will call not. Thank you so much for cleaning my mom’s entire retirement account.

He comes off as very competent during your consultation but it’s downhill from there. He’s incredibly lax when it comes to giving proper attention to his clients. He seldom returns emails and almost never returns phone calls and he’s chronically late. On two occasions I sat in the reception ares for nearly well over an hour ... he wasn’t even in the office, I had to wait and when he showed up, we spoke for no more than 15 minutes but his bill showed the he met with me for three hours.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.

Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
