I wish Ernest was a stand-up person for African Americans in the community but I cannot say that. At least with my experience. We own a small business in Tigard Oregon and have been constantly harassed and intimidated by the local governmental jurisdictions. I record all instances with video and we are compiling documentation for a possible discrimination lawsuit in the future. I included Mr Warren on emails that we send out to the news media and local officials and had hopes of possibly retaining him in the future when the time was right but his lack of response to any of the multiple emails sent to his office clearly shows he's not interested. I will remove you from them emails next time I send one out. I am from an area where African Americans look out for other African Americans that area is Chicago Illinois, which is much much different than Portland Oregon. Sorry to see you were sold out by the man.

I have had the good fortune of having Gregory L Abbott answer some Property Management questions that I have posted and in each case I received a concise, thorough, and professional response. I have also read his responses to questions posted by others which has further enriched my knowledge as a Property Manager. I would not hesitate to hire him to represent me should the need ever arise as I have full confidence of his knowledge of the Oregon Landlord Tenant and Fair Housing laws. Thank you Mr. Abbott for all the good you have done on this site.

The absolute most fraudulent lawyers in the civil rights focus. They perpetuate that they care but the pothead owner Greg Kafoury is very cold calloused and uncaring. My great grand uncle housed civil rights activists in his home as a prominent physician and best friend to MLK through his college years. These white people just care about profits they make off the racial issues we face here. When I needed them most they tuned me away those I had a previous case they worked with me on successfully. Stay far away!!!!

I was really concerned that Nate Holtey forcefully advocated to do something that was harmful to a child (a fully professional review by medical professionals had been done of the care, but Holtey apparently could not care less about the well-being of the young people whose lives he touches). Also, he refused to consult with another attorney, sloppy work indeed.

I DECIDED TO GO DESPITE KNOWING THAT ANY FIRM THAT POURS AD MONEY INTO A PRODUCT LIKE THEY DO TYPICALLY IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A POOR PRODUCT, I PAID MY 200 DOLLARS FOR CHANCE TO MAKE JOKES REPEATEDLY ABOUT MY BEING DUMB ENOUGH TO MARRY THE SAME PERSON TWICE.. I HAD DONE A FAIR AMOUNT OF DUE DILLIGENCE PRIOR TO VISITING HIM,, HE WAS MORE CONCERNED WITH MAKING FUN OF ME AND TELLING ME THAT I SHOULD JUST SETTLE MY CASE FOR HALF.. HIS PARTING COMMENT WAS TO HAND ME A CARD AND TO LET ME KNOW WHEN I WAS GOING TO RETAIN HIM.. AND A FINAL JOKE ABOUT MARRYING THE SAME PERSON TWICE.. I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY RETAINED A COMPETENT ATTORNEY AND AM HEADED FOR TRIAL..

It has been several years since I dealt with Chance but he appears to still be with Goldberg and Jones. Coming in the door Colin Amos promised me the moon, then passed me off to Chance. Most of my funds were spent sitting around chatting it up with Chance. He never developed a legal strategy to move forward with my case, even refusing to even attempt to research the value of narital assets. Valuable time was lost and, consequently, money. I wasn't sure if Fewel's failure to perform his duties,as my attorney were more due to professional incompetence, ineperience or a lack of passion for the job -- perhaps all three? Anyway after re-uping their retainer once too often and expending thousands of my dollars for legal services of questionable value I cut hi m loose and hired another lawyer who as she said "cleaned up the mess" he had made of my divorce. Lesson learned, even if a little late.

He represented me in a case that shouldn’t have made it to the grand jury, but needless to say they did indict me at which time I was placed in custody, Mr. Steen let the district attorney hold me passed my 60 days and didn’t raise that as an issue, during my stay in jail he continued to reassure me that I had nothing to worry about it was a slam dunk case, there were several other guys in custody that had Mr. Steen which I let him know that I knew he had a lot of cases on his desk from the public defenders office and I wouldn’t bother him, he reassured me once again, this time by saying and I quote, “ya, there are a few of you, but out of all of my guys in there, your the one that better not be losing any sleep over this because you are going home.” Which confirmed my belief in him and the fact that the charges would get beat in motions and I wouldn’t see a trial as I had stated to Mr. Steen from the very beginning that I wouldn’t sign a plea agreement or a waiver for my 60 days fast and speedy trial. At 60 days I was still in custody and on my 61st day I was in court, but not for what I had thought. I assumed a release hearing for violating my 60 days, or even a motion hearing which would have sufficed, but no he had me there to plea bargain which he had no flipped the script and claimed that i would most definitely lose in trial and get sent to prison for at least 56 months, my best bet is to take the plea and get a suspended sentence. This isn’t a personal attack on Mr. Steen, just stating the FACTS as they happened. Thank you, Robin

I read the two negative "reviews", and I am simply laughing. They describe someone else, not this excellent attorney who first represented me in a case in 2007 (won the case, spent a year of his time on it), and is currently representing me on another case (another auto collision, the other driver again with a cell phone in his ear). Curt has become more than simply an attorney, and closer to a trusted friend with expertise in the world of litigation. He has guided me away from mistakes; he has tolerated my incessant verbosity (wasting HIS time); he has buffered my tendency to occasionally act in an impulsive manner; he has ALWAYS looked after my best interest. I trust Curt Kinsley implicitly, and recommend him most highly.

Avoid this attorney at all costs! I made the mistake of seeking out a consult with Mr. Kinsley after an accident and was extremely disappointed with it. His attitude was very superior and it seemed like perhaps he was having a bad day because he was highly temperamental. Lawyers like Mr. Kinsley are exactly why personal injury/auto accident attorneys have such a bad reputation.

Extremely disappointed with how Dan has managed our estate case. It has been nearly two months since opposing counsel has requested to close the estate, but Dan continues to ignore any email from my wife or myself. The estate is not worth what he initially thought it would be, and he is no longer motivated to do the right thing by me or my deceased father. TRUST ME when I say a detailed review of this matter and Dans neglect will be posted to this site and sent to the Oregon Bar Association after the estate is settled.

Dan was initially referred to me 30 years ago and I saw him for a divorce and a couple of other matters along the way...then out of nowhere I was indicted on 10 felony counts arrested and humiliated ...so I called Dan who immediately took my case and went to work. One of Dan's biggest strengths is his personal integrity which hasn't gone unnoticed within the legal community. When he says something to a judge or other attorney then they listen and believe him...and rightly so. Dan took less money in order to hire an investigator that would prove to be the difference between winning and losing. I wasn't guilty which always makes it alittle easier but they had wound the net around me pretty good. Dan is an expert of working within the system to get things done. Ive sent him lots of clients throughout the years because I believe that strongly in this guy ...he saved my life because he is really good at what he does.

Sara allen  I absolutely hit the jackpot with this wonderful, approachable and reliable attorney.  Sara Allen went way beyond my expectations, not only solving my issues but at the same time putting me at peace while spending her own personal time (which I know she must have very little of) to take care of me. Ms. Allen's incredibly knowledgeable and has a confident and reassuring demeanor. I would entrust this attorney (person) with my most personal, life matters.  I have never had an experience as streamlined and efficient as it has been with Ms. Allen. It's not always a pleasant experience when one feels the need for an attorney, but somehow she always makes me feel much better about everything. The drop done only allows one area of law to choose from, but she's handled multiple areas for me. It's obvious she's just a wonderful human being and I appreciate all she's done for me. After a contract agreement in which I was owed a substantial amount of money could not be resolved, and getting no results from another lawyer, I went to Sara Allen. She was very thorough, did not waste time, and clearly stated with the offending party's representation the terms of settlement. When they other side failed to responded and tried to employ stall tactics, Ms. Allen was prepared to go to Court to protect my rights. Recognizing Ms. Allen's extensive court room experience and winning record, at the recommendation of their well known law firm the offending party settled for the full amount. I can highly recommend Ms. Allen as a lawyer and will not hesitate to contact her again, should the need arise.

I have nothing but fantastic things to say about Ann. When I was faced by a predatory landlord trying to withhold my deposit for no valid reason, she stepped in and brought me to a swift and victorious settlement. When I reached out to her, she immediately gave me her phone number to discuss the case, when other attorneys would ask for your credit card number first and foremost. She is very witty, straightforward, and she has her own style, but I happened to love it. She turned a situation that could have been a nightmare in... dare I say it, a "fun" experience. I highly recommend you reach out to Ann if you have any tenant/landlord issues.

Ann did a great job! Our ex landlords didn’t even know what to do. Because of her, we were able to stay where we were and the ex landlords decided to sell the place (to someone that actually knows what they are doing) because they knew they had screwed up. This was the second time we used her and everything worked out in our favor and the other party got to foot the bill!!

Anne was only concerned with money. She assumed I wouldn’t be able to pay her. She advised me to stay in a hostile situation and to not pay rent and wait until I get evicted. Beyond that she said she couldn’t help. Uh... I’m pretty sure you can sue a landlord for turning off the heat on you in the winter time and for constant harassment. She gave no insight, no sound advice, Anne probably got her degree in the 70s and hasn’t brushed up on the law since. Super disliked my interaction with her and her terrible advice!

I was the client of Gayle Shields with my workers compensation case. At the first meeting Gayle was friendly, full of enthusiasm and hopes. Then she acted by her own, didn't explain anything, she did everything without contacting me. In my opinion, she failed to do a lot, and then became irritated if I asked her questions. Sometimes, I sent her my own thoughts, additional information, which she denied, but which was later useful when she dealt with claims adjuster. In my opinion, Gayle Shields won't go till the end, in the middle she can drop you, because, she hesitates to move forward. In my case, I cannot say she helped my case with her personality, hard work, etc. She was almost going to drop me when during mediation we came to some conclusion with insurance company.

Both my wife and I were injured separately a week apart at work. Being over 60, we decided that a lawyer would be a good preemptive move. We were lucky to find Gayle. She said that because of our age and past medical issues that they would be difficult cases. That was an understatement. After almost a year, they are finally resolved. Mine was accepted but my wife's was not ,though settled through mediation. Gayle was with us every step of the way. We would have been thrown to the wolves had it not been for her help. Andrew Bobzien is an outstanding lawyer with an outstanding reputation. He specializes in Domestic Violence cases. He is an expert in Family Law. Keep in mind that no matter what Family Law Attorney you hire, there will be challenges. Getting a Divorce or dealing with custody issues is highly emotional. A great example would be the review below. I know her and she actually recommended Drew to me. She unfortunately was emotionally unstable at the time and took advice from her mother instead of from Drew. I know this because I was with her during this time and couldn't believe how unreasonable she was being. I on the other hand trusted his advice and direction and came out winning my case. The best advice I can give on finding a good lawyer is to meet with them in person to see if you and the attorney are a good fit. Someone like Drew who has been practicing for many years and has a great reputation amongst his peers would also be something to consider. The other thing I appreciated about Drew is he kept the cost down as best he could and he allowed me to make payments once he worked through my retainer. Thank you Drew for outstanding representation. I wish you well.

He is all about set overs and making unnecessary court hearings just to waste everyones time so he can get paid. I have been against every set over from the beginning, its a simple case, but mr russell wouldnt make money if it was an open shut case therefore he drags it out half a year. He's lost documents that I'm still trying to get back. Why were we in the court room shuffling for the papers that I gave him. He tells you he's going to do something as in gather evidence for your case and then just doesn't do it and doesn't give any explanation as to why he failed to do so He lies about court proceedings. Mr Russell told me he set a status hearing with the intention of the opposing party failing to appear and said we would be able to then present our case, I show up to the status hearing prepared to present my case and the judge was like no that's not how this works. So I don't know where Mr Russell went to law school where he thinks things happen a certian way when they don't at all. I filed a complaint against him and when the cao emailed him asking for documentation so they can review everything, the next morning he put in his withdraw, yet it says when you file a complaint the cao tries to help the attorney and client resolve the issue. Instead Mr Russell backed out probably because he knows I'm right.

From the start, Baxter and Baxter law firm got results. While I was in the office for my initial consultation, Mr. Baxter contacted the attorney for the collection firm and immediately got the false judgment vacated. It was reassuring to hear Mr. Baxter tell me that it was terrible what the collection agency had done to me. I had felt so helpless because nothing I had done had stopped these people from coming after me. Baxter and Baxter attempted to settle out of court and through mediation. But when the issues could not be resolved that way, Mr. Baxter was ready to challenge the collection firm through the court system. A jury decided in my favor with a verdict for $100,000. Baxter and Baxter represented my case with integrity, professionalism and competence. The victory was due to their diligence and knowledge of the law. I would have been lost without their help. Baxter and Baxter is a family run law firm that represents the victim with compassion and dignity.

I am so grateful for their representation. As a victim of identity theft ranging back to the 1980s, I found myself continually fighting the credit bureaus to clean my credit report of false information. The final straw occurred when I was forced to take my name off the deed of our home because of false information on my credit report. Fortunately for me I found the law firm of Baxter & Baxter LLP who brought a case against Equifax under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. After a weeklong trial in federal court, a jury returned a verdict of $200000. Best of all, I finally got a clean credit report. I am so appreciative of the excellent work done by Justin and Michael Baxter — not only due to the results of the lawsuit, but because of the personal and caring attention I received. I wholeheartedly recommend the legal services of Baxter & Baxter!

Mr Baxter asked me repeatedly to explain my case AFTER he has filed the suit (the second time) The first time he filed in the wrong court and half the suit was thrown out because I couldn't sue the trustee only the bank. Despite winning the suit elements of the settlement STILL aren't satisifed. In September it was settled in my favor and took 5 months to get calculations on my back mortgage which "interestingly" was exactly what I settled for (less of course his fee). I was sent a bill when there was a balance due to ME. I was told in February that his sons wife had a baby and when he returned to work my check would be sent - I finally asked him for it in August and was told "he forgot" about me. It seemed to be a running theme with Mr. Baxter and my case. As far as I am concerned I was treated like a contingency step child - or more appropriately like an easy, because it sure wasn't quick, way to make $35,000.

We hired Ms. Vacura on a real estate dispute. We sold our primary residence and the buyers were unhappy. They were suing us for what we thought was a large sum of money. From our initial meeting, we were clear that we wanted the cheapest and quickest resolution to this case. We told Ms. Vacura the specifics of our case and told her that if we were at fault we were more than willing to write a check. However, we were advised that we had a defendable position. As the process proceeded, the fees from Ms. Vacura began to amass and we asked for a budget; which we received. However, ultimately Ms. Vacura went over budget by 2X. In addition, when Ms. Vacura maneuvered the case to bifurcate the damages from the legal fees, we asked that if by settling for even one dollar would we be liable for the plaintiff’s legal fees. Ms. Vacura assured us that this was not the case. She was painfully wrong. After the arbitrators ruled against us, I attempted to calmly discuss the matter of fees with Ms. Vacura and yet she became belligerent. She repetitiously kept saying that “no outcome was ever guaranteed” and that the “arbitrators had the law wrong.” We relied on Ms. Vacura’s professional advice in navigating the waters of this suit and yet we would have been better advised offering the plaintiffs the money they originally demanded. In the end we ended up spending more the money than the initial plaintiff demand. In fact, at one point the plaintiffs proposed a settlement at close to half the initial demand and we were advised by Ms. Vacura not to take the deal. It was clear that Ms. Vacura was more interested in booking hours than settling our case.

We had spoken to several attorneys in the Portland area and even formally retained another attorney before it became evident that he misrepresented his experience in that area of law. (Also, despite knowing that we had an impending deadline, he took our retainer and the very next day, went on a 5 day vacation without ever disclosing that he been planning on leaving town for several months.) After getting our retainer back from the first lawyer, we did speak with a couple of other local attorneys regarding our legal problem. They were fine but seemed to be inclined toward escalating the matter instead of looking for a way to resolve it expeditiously and, without great expense. I was fortunate to speak with Ms. Vacura prior to retaining anyone else. Ms. Vacura along with her capable associate, attorney John Rake, offered a sensible option before initiating any aggressive legal action. Now don't misunderstand, this firm is a highly regarded aggressive and successful, litigation firm. Yet, instead of encouraging us to pursue that tact, they offered us a practical option. And it worked! We could not be more pleased. And when it comes to billing, you often DO NOT get what you pay for when it comes to legal representation. But both Ms. Vacura and John Rake, were up front regarding their services and fees, and they quite reasonable. I highly recommend considering a consultation with Larkins-Vacura before committing to retaining any other law firm in the Portland metro area.

When I first interviewed 3 attorneys for my lawsuit I knew what type of Lawyer I needed. I needed a tiger because I knew It was going to be a long, hard battle against someone who had 18 years of complete control of a business in which I was 50 per cent owner. She made sense out of 57 boxes of evidence and a thousand bits of paper and e-mail all the while she and her staff were trying to keep up my morale. She worked long and hard on this case and even though this case took a lot out of her(2 1/2 weeks of trial) she always had a smile for me and others. Needless to say I did pick a tiger. She won the case hands down.

Wallace Glausi has been helping our family through 2 generations of family serial entrepreneurs. He is not just the attorney I call on a bad day or a to solve a problem, but more importantly as an advisor with a depth that I have not found in other attorneys or representatives. He has helped in the structuring of acquisitions, partnerships, and sales. He has even been ahead of developing issues giving me a heads up before I was even aware of a problem. When it comes to our businesses and family affairs, he has my trust and respect.

Criminal record here https://crimeinformer.com/arrestArticle/Oregon/66151 This lawyer is incompetent and has multiple criminal issues. Look at his arrest record. I am surprised he has not been disbared. He has a terrible reputation with other local lawyers I have spoken to.

Brent is the best of the best. He represented my wife and I for 3 years and we were lucky to have him and Leslie by our side at every step of the way. They are everything that you would want your dream legal representative to be. Honest, knowledgeable, professional, responsive and meticulous. I honestly do not know where we would be if we had not retained the services of Parrilli Renison and we will be forever grateful.

He was very rude in his communication when I reached out for initial consultation. When someone reaches out to an immigration lawyer they are often in a vulnerable position. It is disgraceful to behave like this even if they haven't hired you yet.

Brent walked us through the process of applying for our Green Card, creating a detailed list of items to be included and collected over time, as well as an efficient timeline for our accountability. We met with him only at a few key points in the process, to review our paperwork and prepare for the next step. He was patient and knowledgeable as we asked questions, and he eased our minds of any worries. Brent and his office took care of all the detailed filing of our application, and we didn't have to directly interface with the Immigration Department until the date of our interview. He prepared us with sample questions we might be asked during our interview, and walked us through how the majority of scenarios go, so that we would be calm and relaxed, and able to be our authentic selves during the interview. Brent accompanied us and supported us through the entire interview process, mainly observing and ready to act on our behalf if need be. We had a great interview experience, and were approved on the spot. We owe a huge thanks to Brent for his professionalism. His fees were very reasonable and absolutely worth every penny. It was a pleasure to work with him, and we highly recommend him.

Kevin and Cathy did a fantastic job representing me. They have integrity, and even though they were out of state, they knew my state’s regulatory system well. Really nice, hard working pair. Thank you two for all that you do! I’m so so thankful for you! :)

I used Kevin for employment and harrassment issues and was extremely satisfied with how knowledgeable and personal the entire office was. I actually left the country a few times during my case and Kevin was GREAT at tracking me down over a different method when I would be without phone or email on certain continents. I was pleased with accuracy and fairness of billing and Communication was more than sufficient. It's not a very aggressive firm but in no way passive or colluding and will absolutely put a firm stand to protecting your legal and civil protections afforded under US law.

My experience with this office was primarily conducted through email contact, as I live in another city. It was a different experience than any other legal counsel I have used, and for a period of time I was somewhat concerned with the progress; however when the time came to present my case, I was thoroughly prepared, and the outcome was as good as any I could have imagined. I recommend this office for any medical professional in need of competent counsel.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.

Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
