This man was assigned to my case In 2018 about a year passed and I had only spoken with him twice ever the phone he has my first contact information and he chose to email me instead of phone for some odd reason. Also he keeps telling me to take a plea that I do not want to take because I am not guilty and it will affect my background later on in life and he seems to not care at all about that. I asked him for the evidence and he has given me none in this whole time.. he does. Or care about anyone’s freedom or situations he lies a lot to his own clients and leaves them like just a few months ago I was waiting from 8:30 am until 12:00pm for him to go in a room with the DA for 5minutes giggle and laugh and for him to come out and suggest the plea once again and has me signed for a re set date once again for the 3rd time he does not take his clients serious at all so I would VERY STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND THIS ATTORNEY he will leave you in binds and maybe even jail time. If you already have him I suggest you replace him with another. IMMEDIATELY!!!

She is unprofessional and her intenstions are only in what benefits her not her clients. Worthless as a lawyer&judge! She had no intenstions in fully helping her clients and always asked for more money in return. She gave us the run around on everything and was never clear on anything but when she needed her money she made sure she was on top of everything and answer minimal questions.

Michael initially answered calls, in the event he didn’t he would return the call in a reasonable time frame. Not prompt but within reason. Within the first week he had already reneged on things he previously said he would do. Dates he guaranteed passed by. With no explanation or reason. He simply stopped communicating. Leaving us completely in the dark. On a matter he said was just a matter of presenting to the judge, no more than a simple interaction ll. After contacting the county clerk numerous times I was informed he never even went as he had assured he would. Now he will not answer anyones calls and has yet to return a single call. Is this guy actually committed to his clients. I don’t think so

BEWARE! After selling me on everything she could do for me legally in my divorce and getting my money up front, she would not return my calls, did absolutely nothing in my case, and deflected me to her partner, who was ill advised. Heidi ended up dropping me in my case, to go to work for a different law firm. I was then stuck with her worthless partner, Paul Hardy, who screwed me royally, (those are the words by another attorney I contacted). BEWARE of this unprofessional excuse of an attorney!

My husband and I hired Mike Kreager after he was recommended by family. We met and explained our needs in late November, we received an engagement letter rapidly and by late December a draft of the llc and gift business. January 6 we received a fat unitemized invoice, then communication went dead... several/many calls and emails during January were unanswered. February 5 received a draft of a will that is a hot mess, and Mr. Kreager is too busy to meet or communicate until mid March. Great service.....not. We will be hiring someone else to clean up his mess. I do not recommend this firm.

This attorney does not return calls or provide any case updates. I have tried to contact him 2 times to get basic information about my case in the three months he has been assigned by my bank. The first time took over a week to get in contact and I think I got lucky because he happened to be in the office when I had called after a week of following up. It has now been over a week and half and he has not called me back to give me an updated that would take less than a few minutes. I have a simple case that he was assigned to about a hold on my bank account. The only information he needs to provide is when the funds may be released. I do not call him constantly or leave messages every day. In the past week and a half I have tried reaching out 3 times spread out. His receptionist is very nice and I know it is not her fault but he is unavailable and unresponsive. I work with a lot of attorneys and have run marketing for attorneys. This attorney is not someone I would ever recommend.

My husband was appointed this C.A attorney. The way he spoke to him the first time they met was absolutely unprofessional and down right rude .He accused him of being high on cocaine ,I thought to myself why on earth is this guy so accusatory and so down right rude ,on the next c.d he lied and said he couldn't find my husband so he left .I'm greatful to the kind officer who witnessed the incident,my husband was sitting in front row waiting on his attorney like he was told.So my husband decided against using him and will be retaining new council on his new set date for court .In my opinion ,who wants someone against you and who lies on you to represent you for ANYTHING ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR PRECIOUS LIFE IS AT RISK ,any amount of time is too much.

Several years ago, I was involved in litigating case with Ms Alvarez and her firm. I found they lacked the professional skill that one would expect from a competent law firm. In this single case, they failed to serve me with a filing that they had made with the Court, they inadvertently sent me a copy of civil complaint with personnel information from another case their office was litigating and one of her attorneys who contacted me was not even registered to practice in the District Court. I found that Ms. Alvarez managed her private practice very poorly.

I hired the Cordell and Cordell firm because of the commercials the owner runs stating the understand the importance of child custody and asset protection. I was assigned Rachel Sadovsky and her manager Ms. Clepper. My ex wife and I owned two businesses. I explained to Mrs. Sadovsky that our business had an automatic buyout that was much less than market value. She said we could argue for market value. We got to mediation and the mediator immediately said a judge would force the automatic buyout to take place and not allow time for a market value bid to come in. Rachel immediately agreed with him. This is just one example of the complete 180 degree turns she took. Most of what she told me in our 6 months of conversations did not happen because the mediator said it couldn't and she agreed after telling me for six months it could happen.

In my case, attorney, Philip C. Mani defaulted on a six figure, written purchase contract which he produced and I agreed to. He later took delivery of property, without my permission, which was nowhere near completely paid for, thus diminishing a good portion of our retirement. His defense for not honoring the written contract was insisting that an oral contract, which never existed on my part, was in place via a third party. The first I was made aware of this “oral contract”, with ridiculous and inconsistent terms, was long after he defaulted and I pursued legal action against him. His initial excuse for defaulting was that the gas and oil industry was performing poorly. I was never approached, would have never approved of or agreed to this nonexistent “oral contract” for many reasons. The large sum of money involved and with terms that extended over several years would not be a valid or enforceable oral contract had one really existed due to legal limitations. As an attorney who writes contracts for a living, he should have known better than to depend on a nonexistent, ever evolving and inconsistent “oral contract” when a valid written contract was already executed and could have been amended. Instead, he changed over to this new excuse or strategy in defense of his actions. From what I deem to be reliable information I was able to gather online and in the media, I surmise that he was involved in similar dealings, from a failure to perform on contract standpoint, in regards to land leases in Brenham, Kansas. Online posts and televised news reports featuring angry land owners, who claimed they were not compensated after signing agreements with this attorney, is all too familiar to me having been similarly victimized.

Mrs. Benavides was by far the worst lawyer I have ever had. She kept pushing for me to go to SAFP, which is basically a concentration camp. Because of her I ended up doing a lot more time then I should have. DO NOT hire her, and if you get appointed her by the court fire her immediately as you could end up in a “rehab”/ concentration camp if you have a drug charge. Instead of helping me beat the case she was trying to be a life coach and ended up getting me more time.

Bottom Line Upfront (BLUF): DO NOT Hire Mr. Lopez or Mrs. Acevedo. They will insist and demand a high retainer and provide inferior services. I will rate Mr. Lopez’s and Mrs. Acevedo’s competence in four professional skills and accepted legal categories. In addition to rating their professional and legal skills, I will write a final assessment based on their performance. I hired Mr. Lopez’s wife (Rochelle Acevedo) to help me modify a custody and child support court order in Bexar County. I paid Mrs. Acevedo 3500.00 upfront at 350 USD an hour. The agreement covered court fees, written modification to the order, and a court appearance. Upon completing these tasks, I will provide additional funding at $350 an hour for other services. I had one meeting with Mrs. Acevedo to review my evidence and conducted a mock cross-examination in preparation for the trial. She was not prepared for our appointment. I was disappointed at her lack of effort. After our meeting, Mr. Lopez contacted me and said, “Rochelle’s caseload is overloaded; I will handle your case.” A Bar certified lawyer; decided to change my legal counsel. She violated our contract; furthermore, without accepting a financial loss, I had no choice. At a minimum, Mrs. Acevedo would have charged me for services rendered, or Mrs. Acevedo and Mr. Lopez would have stolen my 3500 completely. Categories are as follows: Experience: both attorneys work in criminal, family, and civil law. Based on my family law case, their caseloads are overextended, and they need to develop expert knowledge in family law. They couldn’t coordinate a court date. Communication: Mr. Lopez’s phone voicemail is full. You cannot leave a voice message. He will not respond to emails in a timely manner. Professionalism: Mr. Lopez will not attend the 8:00 docket. He will schedule a meeting and will arrive late. His office space is a run-down shack at a terrifying location. Loyalty: Mr. Lopez is not loyal and only seeks his financial gain. After a full year of court delays, Mr. Lopez’s attempted to negotiate a modification. The modification did not favor my position. At this point, I was highly disappointed in Mr. Lopez’s poor legal representation. After his poor negotiation skills, I told him “ I could have negotiated an insufficient modification myself”. He then said,” You know your child custody could be supervised.” I immediately stop all communication with him! Final assessment: No one is paid 350 an hour. If a lawyer is paid 350 an hour, I expect hard work, honesty, and loyal legal representation. Mr. Lopez will not look out for your best interest, and his work ethic could be better. Mr. Lopez has a poor google rating; his wife submitted a five star google review. Very sad. I do not recommend Mr. Lopez and Mrs. Acevedo’s services.

I was referred to Fidel Rodriguez by a former client after a car accident and he managed to keep most of the money and basically drag my life down the drain and never get any result for anyone but himself. When I fired him, he CONTINUED to do business that I explicitly told him not to do and completely violated me. After 7 months of being lied to and manipulated by MY OWN ATTORNEY, I fired him and hired someone else. It wasn't until I got out of his grasp and got ACTUAL medical attention that I figured out that my brain injury was REAL and the doctors Rodriguez has on staff are all in on this scam with him. DO NOT HIRE THIS ATTORNEY! He ultimately got me $14,000 and kept 30,000+. He's so petty that when I fired him, he actually returned money he had in his hand to the insurance company instead of turning it over to me.

Very very disappointed in this firm. They handled my case for the Camp Fire Victims Trust. The last phone call I had with them, they were still misunderstanding my case, and I decided to make an appeal to make sure all the facts were considered by the Trust. I received no response from the paralegal Cindy Wilson, or my case manager Brandy, for the three months before that final determination. I have no idea what they submitted, or why my initial concerns with the Determination were never addressed. This was after they misinterpreted the compensation requirements so badly for my case, that I would have received 3k instead of the final amount, 30k, until I busted down their doors to get them to fix the errors. Horrible communication. I was guilted by my case manager every time I reached out to her, and blamed for all my own confusion and concerns. If they were kind to me and keeping me informed throughout the process, my review would be different even though i didnt recieve fair compensation in the end.

I was charged with three counts misdemeanors 2017/8. The temporary protective order was issued for about a month against me from my ex. Two months later( the protective order expired), it was almost Christmas. I really miss my child since my ex took her away from me without telling me anything. Then I tried to contact her and wrote a message saying " Not letting me see my child is not right, I 'd like to meet you in police station" I think this is very normal and pose no threat. Because of this, Cynthia Olson ordered me to testify for two year protective order. At that time, no protective order to prevent me from contacting her either. And I messaged her in a safest way but Cynthia Maria Olson still asked me to testify. Now all my charges are dismissed. I have never done anything to my ex. Cynthia Maria Olson only listen to what my ex said instead of looking at evidence. From the beginning to the end, it is all " she said..". My question is what's the difference between having protective order and no protective ? If there is a protective order, I can't contact her but if there no protective order, I contact her in the safest way, you still ordered me to testify ? Then there is really no difference. Because of your protective order, I have not seen my child for 1 year and half. And this is going to continue until the end of 2019. which is inhuman since I don't have money for the family lawyer. Now all the cases dismissed but the protective order is still there for no sense. I need your explanation. for what reason you asked me to testify in the court ? My ex took advantage of this all the time. It is ridiculous that even though all the charges got dismissed, the protective order is still there. You protect what and whom? If telling my ex to meet at police station to see my child is not safe, where else can be safer ?

I found attorney Nestor Javier Lopez-Garcia through a Legal Aid referral notification when requesting legal assistance for my type of case. I was seeking representation after my initial civil case was concluded against my apartment complex [Artisan Luxury Apartments | Location: 8701 W. Parmer Lane] [Case #1JC-21-0454]. While I lived there, I rented a garage port that was tied into my lease agreement. While still in my lease, they leased out my garage to a new resident, and reported my items as abandoned. I filed a civil suit against them, and won a settlement amount; however their attorney made a countersuit about water damage on the carpet, which was the result from the big winterstorm that happened around 2021.and was related to the winter storm that displaced most of the people in my building. After that situation happened, there was no maintenance work done to repair my floor in the unit. I realized that this countersuit could be a tactic to mitigate the settlement. The settlement I won therefore was reduced after they won their countersuit against me. I filed an appeal, and realized that I needed professional help, because I realized how unprepared I was to counter-argue the opposing side's claim. I came into contact with Nestor J. Lopez, Esq. (Loc: Law Office of Nestor J. Lopez, PLLC). Which I found through Texas Legal Aid service. The issue that Mr. Lopez caused me was not appearing for my appeal hearing, & advising me that I did not have to appear myself. This caused the opposing side to win a Final Judgment at the County Court at Law #4 [No. 22-0869-CC4]. I had the opportunity to open a new case, but within that 30 day window Mr. Lopez did not file a new case on my behalf, and failed to provide me the information I needed to get him off my case, which would have allowed me to get someone else to open a new case for me. I had grounds to reopen a new case, but since Mr. Lopez was listed as my lawyer on file, then he would have to do so, which he never did. I filed a CDC grievance with the "Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel" [Re: 202207630] and provided them a detail papertrail & timeline of the events that lead to my outcome. After the hearing they found cause to provide disciplinary actions on him. He was required to complete mandatory courses, and has since been reinstated as of April 10, 2024. I am writing this review for anyone needing honest feedback before making a decision. I believe that people need resources & feedback to make informed decisions. I have vetted this review to make sure I have cobberating information to support everything I stated.

Family Law. I am a father who had a favorable social study and custody from 5/04 to 3/06. This attorney never presented our case before a judge. My ex-spouse had her cousin go to CPS and accuse me and my son of abuse to our youngest. Ruled out in less than two months. Advice of Lawyer was to give her custody. I never received child support. This CPS false allegations are common in custody cases. I do not recommend this lawyer for any task. I will be happy to give more details.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
