I would highly recomend Mr. Redford for handling eviction matters. We recently hired Mr. Redford to handle an eviction for us and he was the most responsive and patient attorney I have ever worked with. We had tenants in our home that not only failed to paid rent but also filed bankrutpcy. Because this was our home, you can imagine how upsetting and stressful this was for us. Mr. Redford took a lot of the stress away by providing exceptional legal service, and we really appreciated that!

When it became clear our company was going to engage in a private equity deal, we were matched with Claire from K&L Gates. Fully recognizing the tight time-frame and immense amount of legal work to be done, she became versed in all aspects of our deal. No complexities introduced during from either side of the deal deterred her focus. Her abilities are broad as well as deep, although she certainly knew to defer to colleagues for deeper niche issues (tax for example). There were numerous long, late nights we had to work and Claire was right there with us all along. I'd gladly work with her again! In fact will likely use her for operating and shareholder docs for my next company.

This review is for Sharon Perlin who is an Attorney at Flaccus Law. It's easy to have an estate plan written. It's also easy to put off having an estate plan written, or in my case, updated. Ten years ago we managed to write estate documents including wills, health care directives, organ donor instructions, burial instructions and other estate planning documents, but ten years later, despite job changes, a new house, investments, etc. they had never been updated. And, while I suppose out of date documents are better than no documents at all, as we prepared to head on an extended vacation to a sometimes unstable part of the world, we thought maybe this is a good time to update everything. The first time we did our estate documents it was at one of the fancy downtown law firms and while we were perfectly happy with the outcome, you couldn't help but be aware of the setting and the fact that every half hour meant another $150 to the bill. This time around we made a conscious decision that we wanted to stay away from the high priced, high rise firms and find someone in our neighborhood who could provide personalized care and advice in a more casual and affordable way. Meeting with Sharon for the first time we immediately felt comfortable. She is warm and friendly and as we started talking about our estate documents and our objectives for updating them, it was also clear that she is very knowledgeable. Sharon also has that important ability to take complex legal concepts and distil them down to layman's terms. At that initial meeting and subsequent conversations Sharon took us through a thorough recap of all the elements of our current documents and, section by section, walked us through changes we might consider and why. Her suggestions were based on sound logic and at all times we felt like our estate planning goals were front of mind. The entire process took a few weeks with the final visit to Sharon's office to actually sign the new documents. As we were just about to take off on our vacation, Sharon was gracious enough to mail hard copies to our estate executor. Taking the time to create an estate plan is a responsibility that all adults should take seriously. There is simply no reason that anyone should ever pass without having their estate in order. Don't have an estate plan? Need to have your estate plan updated? I would wholeheartedly recommend Sharon. I would also not hesitate to use her for any of the other legal areas that she specializes in, including trusts, probate and probate litigation, guardianships, and IRS tax controversies.

If you have never had to contact a lawyer before or you have and it just is daunting and you really just need someone who cares about your outcome - Call Chris. We had a terrible case and he helped us to navigate this time and get us through it. He took time to explain things so we understood and in the end I think we had the best outcome we could get. Mr. Grennan's knowledge of civil law is astounding. He helped me resolve the matter in less than 90 days and more importantly was available at every instance. Not a phone call went to voice mail and emails returned same day, even if it meant late night or weekend. I have had several experiences with attorneys. intellectual property, civil litigation and real estate. Mr. Grennan is the only one that didn't treat out interactions like I was a wallet with lips. I strongly recommend Phillip!

I have worked with Chris for over two years. As a member of an amazing legal team, Chris has been extremely effective in working day-to-day with us through a very difficult time for our family and business. Chris is committed to ensuring that the law serves his clients and the common good. Legally, Chris is extremely competent, yet humble enough to admit when he is not sure of the answer to a question or the implications of a particular issue. That being said, he is comfortable engaging senior members of his firms legal team to bring clarity to whatever question or issue is at hand and does so in a timely manner. Chris' competence and integrity will take him far in his legal career.

Scott is by far the best attorney that I have ever engaged. In my job, I have worked with dozens of attorneys over a very wide range of legal actions and disputes. Each attorney has strengths and weaknesses but Scott's performance in my case was head and shoulders above any other attorney that I've encountered. As defense counsel, Scott brought a great deal of energy and intellect to my case. He kept the main points in clear focus while he prepared an extremely thorough brief and courtroom presentation with a surprising level of attention to detail. We had less than two weeks to prepare for trial from engagement to the actual arbitration but Scott was able to anticipate the opposing counsel's every move after devoting excessively long hours to research and preparation. The stakes were very high (millions of dollars) and Scott was able to obtain a good result. Not everything we wanted because that seldom happens in arbitration--but the plaintiffs knew they were in trouble from the opening statement. They were actually forced on the defensive and had to change their entire approach to the case after the first day of the trial. Scott's clients initially engage him because of his excellent reputation, successful track record and the tremendous amount of talent, dedication and creativity that he brings to each case. They become lifelong clients because of his concern, his passion, his dry humor and the reassurance that they experience even during the grim circumstances that surround legal disputes. I strongly recommend him.

I don't know where to begin when I explain how amazing of an attorney Anne is. There was so much more going on behind the scenes than I ever realized. With and at times without my knowing, she went above and beyond in s many ways. She actually takes time whether it's Labor Day weekend, any weekend or evening to get back to you and thoroughly answer your questions (which I have a lot of by the way) - She truly cares and is interested in you as a client not just for monies, she's organized, prompt, very motivated and even with her many years of experience, still carries the passion for justice. I can't say enough about how fantastic she is. What I personally liked best about her is that she's down to earth and plain cool! Not at all some stuck up attorney who thinks they're on a higher level of life than you. What else can I say? She's awesome in every single way. I highly recommend Anne to any and everyone that needs a standup, caring attorney that's plain AWESOME in the courtroom. Thank you Anne!

He listened to what i wanted to do and did not try to get me to take a plea bargain beyond what i was willing to agree to. When the state refused to be reasonable he was ready< willing and able to take it to trial. I was charged with two second degree assaults with a deadly weapon (dollar store broomstick I was using as a walking stick), I was guilty car prowling and when the owner caught me I ran away and the guy and his son chased me but I did not even attempt to hit either one of them. He was able to suppress my irrelevant criminal history so I could testify on my own behalf. The end result was the jury found me guilty of misdemeanors. He was very honest in is professional opinion and when the state offered a 5 year deal halfway thru trial he recommended I consider it only because if I had been found guilty of the felonies I would of gotten about 20 years with all the felonies and weapon enhancements. He is a great attorney and you have to trust that he will do what he gets paid to dol

Jim did a great job for me- got my Bankruptcy through and completed without a hitch, kept me informed the whole time. I had an issue with the state, since I'd made too much money to technically qualify for a Chapter 7, but with the downturn in the economy, I'd lost my job and my outlook on getting a position making comparable money was bleak. (I still don't have a job making what I used to, and would never have been able to pay back my debts under Chapter 13.) Jim was kind, helpful and thorough. I highly recommend him.

Ann is a highly intelligent, well-informed straight talker who is incredibly balanced, thorough, and detailed. One of her strengths is her rapid response to emails and steady support. She is resourceful, sensitive, and realistic. For example, she found a Lithuanian interpreter for my wife, a scarce resource in Seattle. She made sure we were fully documented and well prepared for the interview we finally had after 17 months at Homeland Security.

I was completely overwhelmed by the details and numerous steps it was going to take to get divorced and Jacqueline was an amazing guide. While the details of my divorce seemed very simple, my ex-husband and I were dealing with several states, and a boatload of paperwork that was difficult to sift through. She brought insight and direction to the process and really asked the tough questions that helped me advocate for myself. Divorce is a terrifically tough and emotional time and having Jacqueline as a second set of eyes was indispensable.

Durham was involved in a wage dispute for us that was successfully settled out of court. Because the tax consequences of the settlement varied greatly depending on the language used, we relied on Durham to make sure everything was captured in a way that had the least impact (tax-wise) while being completely within the rules. Because of his diligence, we saved thousands. Also, Durham is incredibly generous with his time. I've worked with attorneys who will bill for even a 5 minute phone call. Durham understands the long game and knows, because of the respectful way he treats his clients, they will continue to come back to him in the future (we have). Throw on top of this the fact that he is extremely nice and pleasant to work with, and you've got a great attorney on your hands.

While attempting to get a TN twice and got refused - I called Andrew for help. He saw the two issues I am having with my applications and dag through the law to prepare a case to support me with these two potential issues. While being in the border - the issues were raised and the office told me: "You are not going to get a TN visa today". Andrew stepped him and the office was very aggressive to him and asked him to sit immediately. Andrew didn't give up and asked for a supervisor. We presented the case to the supervisor based on Andrew's prepared documents - and finally got the VISA. Andrew knowledged of the law, fearless attitude while knowing how to behave and not doing anything stupid that might cause a risk to me - made me get the VISA during that day.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
