Great customer service, however, as a stay at home mom, (who is currently in search for a job now that Im headed towards divorce) I feel that spending 10k for retainer is very outrageous. I get that this may be one of the best family law firms in FL, but I wish there was a program where a payment plan could be out in place for those of us that may be on a financial low at the moment. Kmowing that I may be heading to court without an attorney frightens me so much. It's so overwhelming and my anxiety has been up it's roof but this point. I know I need help with my case. This divorce is slowly doing me in and I'm just praying to God someone could hear me it and want to work with me and or others like me. Shout out to Ashley, she was amazing and her customer was supurub!!

I found this website after frantically searching for narcissistic abuse help—didn’t realize they were in FL. I had a call with Erica and she was able to assist me in regulating my emotions and writing down an action plan. Even though her group couldn’t help me legally, she helped me personally—human to human. Thank you 💚

I reached out for support with finding the right kind of attorney and even though I wasn’t a right fit for this office, I got help from Erica who was kind, compassionate and validated my concerns. She also gave a helpful referral to another office. Thanks again, your help is greatly appreciated! 🙏

Mrs. Ruby Barr is a wonderful person, but I definitely don’t recommend Mrs. Barr for assistance in a a family law case. Her many years of experience has clouded her judgement drastically. She is unable to separate her experiences as an attorney and look at factors within cases and this unfortunately causes an inability to make an unbiased decision based solely on case facts. When presented with information and evidence she is unwilling to listen and instead chooses to rely solely upon her personal experience with other cases. She reviewed only a handful of the evidence presented and determined that my particular case was just a normal high conflict case involving minor children, completely ignoring previous illegal activities of the other parties. She failed to review records and documents that were pertinent to the case and gave no recommendations to the courts. This was the worst 3k spent.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to write this review but decided to because I thought Ms. Coffman's approach was disrespectful. I was okay if she couldn't help me. It was not okay to completely criticize me in more ways than one. There were a few troubling aspects of my case, one of which on the surface is completely not okay. However, the action was a bit facetious but also motivated by fear. She also said people are probably scared of me, which is not true. I work everyday as a substitute teacher and the students say I'm their favorite! I have friends, good friends, who know I'm not a violent person, and know who truly who is truly at fault in my case. Then, she started to criticize my inability to pick up on the legalese, saying she has had people with less education understand better than me. I was nervous in part, and I've never had legal problems in my life! She also made references to other things I will keep private but she criticized as well. To be clear, attacking potential clients is just unacceptable. I can understand having a concern or two, but making multiple attacks is derogatory.

Only thing you can control in life......is the way you respond to life...... I heard this quote at a point in my incarceration. Those thirteen words really changed my life, mainly my state of mind. Those words gave me a push to stay positive and fight no matter the circumstances. In May of 2005 at the age of eighteen, I was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder along with a few other related charges. Only a short time of five months I was tried, convicted and sentenced. I received a 30-year w/a 25 mandatory sentence to the Florida Department of Corrections. This is where the battle of my life began. I went through multiple attorneys and every appeal possible. I went all the way to the United States Supreme Court and was denied at every level. It wasn't until I hired Ms. Paula Coffman in 2018 to file a newly discovered evidence post conviction motion (my last shot) that I was granted an evidentiary hearing in 2019 and then later a new trial in 2020. So after 15 years of fighting, w/God on my side and Ms. Paula Coffman representing me I was finally able to get my case heard and granted some relief. The highest form of giving a human can offer is "Inspiration", so I pray my story will "Inspire" someone to never give up and continue to fight no matter what.

I was sentenced to 69.45 months in the D.O.C. I hired Paula Coffman in 2018 to Appeal my sentence. After serving 13 months she got my charges dropped completely, and got me into a treatment program instead. She fought extremely hard for my freedom and she will for yours as well. She cares and she believes in second chances.

I spoke with a Woman there, who was supposed to be a paralegal. I was told I probably had a case for my inquiry...and was connected with a 'Finance' Guy..who said it would be $5000 for a retainer, which was translated by 20 hours @$250/hr. I was doing research online about them, and found many complaints about the wording of the retainer...which seemed to be whether they spent 15 minutes resolving ones issue or 20 hours, the $5000 retainer becomes theirs. I told the 'Finance' Guy it was too much and said I was not interested in hiring them and hung up. I received a Invoice from them for $37.86. I complained to the BBB.org. who sent them a request for comment. They responded saying if I downloaded some document and signed and returned it..then they would be satisfied. I rejected that response, since I did not hire them or enter any agreement with them, so I could just imagine what downloading or signing anything would or could lead to. This Organization is SHADY to say the least. I thought I crossed the T's and dotted the I's by not engaging with these people. I suppose the $37.86 is to rake in money by assuming people will just send them the small amount to make them go away. I just received a follow-up from "Ironclad Law LLC" threatening to report to the Credit Agencies that I am delinquent with my payment. I have also contacted the Florida State Attorney Generals Office, and they will be watching how this plays out...I was told if they did get information from the dark web for nefarious purposes, they will prosecute. I was given the Florida Bar Association contact information for further action if this persists. Watch out!!! These people are Con Artists that will try to extract money from unsuspecting consumers...Beware. Forewarned is best prepared.

All the last months review are nothing but accurate. They will chase you down to receive your money and once you pay they won’t contact you at all. All you can do is schedule a meeting with a front desk person and vent your problems. She’ll let you know that she’s going to let them know so they can contact you and then you’ll repeat the process again. I wish I would have read the reviews before paying them.

*** Buyers Beware *** It took me months to gather my thoughts as to not review this Law Firm hastily. I attempted to resolve this with the Attorney's Office, Realtor and Sellers. Sorry, this review is not short. At the end of September of 2023, my husband and I closed on our first home together. This is just a little 900 sq ft fixer upper to live out our lives in. You hope and pray that when you buy a home that a Lawyer's Ethical and Moral Code is beyond reproach. Not with this Attorney (Mutarelli), or the closing associate (Samantha). In my Closing documents I was responsible for for the last 3 months of the year, and the Sellers were to pay the 9 months prior. This is in my closing documents in "Black and White". The issue was the "Assessed Taxes". They were not disclosed to us at closing even though the Tax Office when I went in to file Homestead Exemption informed me that Trim Notices were sent out to the Sellers and apparently is "Public" Knowledge, Something that a line of Attorneys, Title Companies, and Realtors would have known and had "Experience" in since this is nothing new in any closing. Just to catch you up (Buyers beware) The taxes at closing were assessed at the prior year $ 482.11. not the 2023 taxes when we actually closed. That meant my taxes for 2023 that I should only have been responsible for jumped from (3) months of the $482.11 owed to $2,555.32 when I went in to file Homestead Exemption. Not *One single person is owning up to this nor taking responsibility as I hate to say it, the little guy remains the underdog. To avoid further penalties, we were forced to pay these taxes, and my only step is not in my budget. This is a very hard lesson for a simple blue collar worker to accept. I guess my moral compass is one of hard work, honesty, and always "Integrity" in all things. No, Life is not fair, and that I can live with, but "Ethical Behavior and "Accountability for what is right in the one thing I have always held most closely to how a person should live their life.

Please beware of this law firm and check with the NC State Bar about attorney Patrick Megaro’s reprimand to not practice law in our State. He was hired to represent me in an Equitable Distribution case. Megaro failed to file a transcripts contact Rule 70 with Alamance County Clerk of Courts office. He missed the deadline then missed the dates after that could have gotten us an extension. My only hope for an appeal was over!!! They didn’t even tell me till months later that the appeal never went through. And to add insult to injury he blamed me for not hiring a transcriber in time. That is a complete false statement. I was told they would hire someone, file the contract and I would pay the cost of transcripts. So I paid the transcriber that I had to locate and hire because they didn’t find one within the time restrictions according to NC Law. Little did I know that I paid $10,000 for nothing because they lost my hope for an appeal. This is an unethical and unprofessional law firm. Please check out Patrick Megaro’s loss of license to practice in the State of NC for many years.

Mr. Michael L. Boswell is a top-notch, knowledgeable attorney with a very caring, compassionate and personalized touch, which is why I highly recommend him. There is no way that I will ever be able to thank or repay Mr. Boswell for his kind and much needed legal advice and assistance. He could see that I was very distraught and anxious over a very personal family legal matter, which required the legal expertise of an attorney who could understand and personally relate to my situation. Mr. Boswell was that attorney. He is a very kindhearted, legal professional, who connects with his clients, who connected with me on a very personal level. Though now retired, I used to work with numerous, various attorneys on a weekly basis for about two decades, who either worked for the county or the state, or who were in private practice. My point being, I am well familiar with attorneys. Of the hundreds of attorneys that I worked with in that two decade time span, Mr. Boswell is one of the top three attorneys that I have had the pleasure to work with and who I hold in the highest regard. Take my advice. If you need an attorney who cares, who understands and who you want to work with you on a personal level, Mr. Boswell is the attorney that you need to see. Thank-you, Mr. Boswell! I will never be able to thank you or repay you for your much needed legal advice and assistance.

Michael Boswell is representing our disabled child in a Special Education case. He's a very experienced attorney, immensely knowledgeable, and extremely ethical. This is a man who has strong committed principles (and was definitely the answer to our prayers) combined with a relentless drive to vigorously protect the rights of children with special needs. He is always responsive (allowing - obviously - for his other responsibilities including frequent court appearances) to my often lengthy emails and he has kept us informed every step of the way. I am completely confident that we (and especially our child) are in safe, dedicated, capable hands. Kids with special needs are particularly vulnerable so having such an effective force for good safeguarding our son' rights is incredibly reassuring and we would highly recommend Michael Boswell without hesitation.

Michael is an amazing human being. He truly cares for his client and understands the sense of urgency that it takes when dealing with some of life's difficult issues. I hired him for both a divorce and as an elder care attorney. In both cases he explained to me different routes we could go, but at the same time letting me know about different consequences that could happen. I never felt uninformed but instead confident because I knew he had my back. In my elder care case dealing with protecting my family's assets, Michael again explained every step to me. He has been practicing law for 30+ years and I will continue to use Michael as needed. He is truly a great man!

Ira is a very conscientious, detail-oriented attorney. He will thoroughly review the report of your case for inconsistencies and possible leniencies. Although I was very upset to be in a situation where I needed a lawyer, I was fortunate that I chose him as my lawyer. The situation was resolved relatively quickly. Unfortunately, like many quality services, it was expensive. He also seems to have many connections in the courthouse – that always helps. The ‘justice system’ is definitely not just or even a vaguely fair system. I’m glad I chose him.

Upon responding to my question i believe he made assumptions that i am making certain choices for selfish reasons. I believe he failed to ask sufficient questions to unknown circumstances and instead jumped to conclusions, something i personally never want to experience during a session with any attorney. I believe he Had no concern as to why, what, when, where, who or how. He was knowledgeable and i was able to take away legal advise but i would not recommend.

Ms. Flowers handled my divorce. My ex-husband and myself thought that it would be in our best interest to retain two separate lawyers. After meeting with Ms. Flowers we were both so impressed with her knowledge of the law and her ability to explain the facts we decided to proceed with the process using Ms. Flowers only. Once you take the emotional factor out of the divorce process, which is difficult to do, the law is the law. Mr. Flowers explained what each of us were entitled to and helped us come to terms with many difficult decisions, including our child custody agreement. We could call her day or night and on weekends if need be. She was responsive, and truly seemed to have our best interest at heart. She was not only professional, but had compassion for us and our situation. I had friends that were in and out of court for over a year incurring thousands of dollars worth of "billable hours". My divorce took less than three months to finalize. I will forever be grateful to Ms. Flowers for making a very sad situation a little easier!!!!!! If anyone is in need of an excellent divorce attorney I would highly recommend Cheryl B. Flowers.

I hope this (current) review will be helpful for those considering good representation (it could have helped me). This lawyer could serve you well if you are seeking a legal form to be filled and filed with the court (or something straightforward), but if litigation is required, I think better counsel can be found. My mother and I had a straightforward conflict that needed legal resolution. A contract was in place that would quickly be resolved in front of a judge. The case took a year to resolve and cost us a small loss and legal costs. Throughout the case, he was never clear with us until he needed to be, instead informed us on a need to know basis. Usually his response to detailed questions was, “Let’s see what happens.” He allowed himself to be manipulated by opposing counsel several times even though I warned him practically each time. I still have many apologetic emails and recordings that testify to this, yet he was able to still charge us for his mistakes. In case you are wondering, why not fire him? I learned that lesson late. We believed in the case more than we did him and so was willing to see it through. That was a mistake on our part. The case was settled overall in our favor upon my insistence to go to court, though he was against doing so and on many occasions tried to have us settle. In the end it was clear he wanted to walk away once our money ran out. Instead of continuing to find money to pay him, it was best to be finished with him and take the small loss. In conclusion, regardless of how strong your case might be, under his representation you stand a chance to lose or settle. So beware and I hope this turns out to be helpful to someone.

Incredibly unprofessional conduct from this firm, unresponsive, dismissive, and dare I say equally incompetent. There are far better firms that act with more integrity and care for their clients. I would keep looking if you want true legal representation where you are made to feel like they are working for you and not being treated like an inconvenience. I think they forget who is paying them. I had the same negative experience with the Attorney that the women listed in the previous review, she is not at all exaggerating this mans level of unprofessionalism.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
