I was introduce to Mr. Del Villar through another client that dealt with him in the past. He was very understanding and easy to work with. He let you know right away if he can help you or not. He gives you and clear understanding of what’s going on and what can happen. He is very affordable and will work out a payment plan with you. I am very satisfied dealing with him. I appreciate his honesty and dedication to me and my family.

This man scammed me bad, he didn't stand up to the judge at all. I was told a percentage for them and they are trying to get more out of my tiny check when in fact I should of been able to receive much more on disability but instead I only got SSI. I have held a job most of my life and the judge only went back one year. The 3 years before I was hurt bad in a accident. And had no choice but to go on SS.

I have had Mark as my attorney for the last 16 yrs. He has helped me with my child's child support/visitation issues and a divorce. He has always been attentive to my situation, understanding as to the outcome I wanted and given me great advice to help me thru some tough times. I have recommended him to many of my friends who have nothing but good things to say about him. I will always refer Mark and use him in my time of need. Thank you Mark for everything you have done for me!!

Mark Neumaier is the best family law attorney I have ever worked with, period. I hired Mark because he came very highly recommended and it was the best decision. Mark was responsive, efficient and completely dominated the other attorney in and out of the court room in all manners, knowledge, behavior, communication and appearance. He is polite, calm and reassuring to speak with even during the most stressful situations. He tried in all instances to resolve issues as simply as possible without causing more hate and collateral damage in the situation. I cannot recommend Mark enough, you will not be dissappointed

I hired Nancy Hass in April 2017 and had to fire her on November of 2017 . I hired Nancy Hass to do a simple paternity agreement to settle a case in April 2017 . Seven 7 months from the day I hired her and my case was neither settled or completed. One thing was sure done, demand for payment of legal fees. I finally decided to fire Nancy Hass after I sent 7 emails in a period of one month requesting her to do specific things that were either not answered or addressed in a timely manner which let me no choice but to send her office a certified letter. Nancy Hass was a no show on a confirmed conference call ( Confirmed by her office ) and when her office contacted me the next morning in response to my email stating she was a NO SHOW and that I had been waiting for over an hour for her call , her assistant told me that instead Nancy Hass would call me sometime during the weekend , a call I never got either. During the time I hired Ms Hass , her office address and the address in her email signature was: The Hallmark of Hollywood 3800 South Ocean Drive Suite 214 . When I went in person to that address the door was closed, I looked inside to what seemed an empty office . The two times I met Nancy Hass in person was at the offices of Accountants ( Stief & Castro 12 S.E. 7TH Street Suite 601. Sometime in 2018, Nancy Hass changed her address on her email signature and Bar Association website to: 12 S.E. 7TH Street Suite 601, Fortlauderdale. However when the Broward County Sherif’s went to serve a subpoena to Nancy Hass to this address ( 12 S.E. 7 th Street, Suite 601 ) the court papers were not served because ‘ Per receptionist at location, respondent is not an employee or known at the location”. Nancy Hass states that her assistant "Ms. Mahaney resides outside of Miami-Dade County, outside of the jurisdiction, and, in fact, more than one hundred fifty (150) miles outside of the jurisdiction. These are reasonable grounds for me to believe, it seems that Nancy Hass does not have a physical office as where she and her assistants operate from every day, but rather a “ virtual office”. Nancy Hass charged me a whopping $400 an hour and her assistants a very expensive $120 an hour . The assistants email signature do not specify if they are paralegals. Despite over 7 emails , phone calls and in person requests to get a detail bill of Nancy Hass legal services , I never got a bill from Nancy Hass or her office during the 7 months Nancy Hass represented me. However, despite my multiple requests for a bill , I was required to make a second payment of $2500 ( in addition to my first payment of $2500 ) not knowing how and IF the first $2500 were used up. Quantum Meruit holds that a person should not be obliged to pay, nor should the other party receive, more than the value of the services exchanged. Under Chapter 4, Rules of Professional Conduct Preamble: A Lawyer’ Responsibility states the definition of Retainer as follows: A retainer is a sum of money paid to a lawyer to guarantee the lawyer’s future availability. A retainer is not a payment for past legal services and is not payments for future services. I have contacted the Bar Association.

I hired Nancy to handle my contested divorce and she was a terrible attorney. She doesn't reply to emails or phone calls for weeks at a time. She suggested we agree to all the terms the other attorney presented and they still didn't follow up and make sure everything was completed. Its been 8 years since my divorce and Im still dealing with issues that weren't resolved. She took my money and then asked for more and more and more and still hasn't resolved my issues. Do yourself a favor and don't hire this attorney.

First and foremost, this is a real review. I did not hire Mr. Ackley. For no other reason than the fact that I have begun to resolve my matter out of court . However, should I need an attorney I would be confident in my choice to hire Mr. Ackley, a.ka. just Randy. Mr. Ackley consulted me on a legal real estate matter and unlike my experience with 2 other attorney's involving the same matter... Mr. Ackley was professional, incredibly knowledgeable and responsive. He provided me crystal clear advice on next steps, possible outcomes and responded to my inquiries same day, if not, within the hour. Lastly, I would feel very confident in retaining his services should my situation change and recommend for anyone needing legal representation in Florida to at minimum consult with him.

I interviewed 6 different divorce attorneys before choosing Kate Halvorsen. I couldn't have made a better choice. It sounds cliche, but she's truly a diamond in the rough. Knowledgeable, sincere, hard-working, experienced, intelligent, perceptive... I could go on. But the things that really set her apart are her devotion to her clients and her personal and professional integrity. (A divorce lawyer with integrity? Hard to believe, I know, but it's true!) Divorce is never easy (avoid it if you can!), but I knew mine would be especially challenging. Kate has been fighting tirelessly for me and my children for over 3 years now, and I'm thankful every day that she's my attorney. (To clarify, Kate is not the reason my case has dragged on for so long -- my ex is. If it were up to us, it never would've gone to trial.) Ms. Halvorsen has been practicing family law for 25 years. As they say, this ain't her first rodeo. Her reputation for being honest, fair, level-headed, and a good listener makes her highly sought after as a mediator. With so much experience, she knows the Sarasota/Manatee legal community inside-out. If she can't answer your question, she'll tell you who can. Kate's very efficient. When she tells you she's going to do something, she does it, and she does it well. She's a one-lawyer practice -- that means she and her amazing assistant Pat do it all. Kate works hard to learn (and remember!) the details of your case. You get her - your case won't be outsourced to a lower-paid junior attorney. Her hourly rate isn't the lowest out there, but she's worth every penny. She's respectful of your budget, realistic in her estimates, and she doesn't pad the bill. (I check!) She won't promise you a happy ending where there isn't one; she's realistic. And she won't violate her ethical obligations for you. If that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. Kate knows the law and uses it to full advantage. She's great under pressure, down-to-earth, quick-thinking, and she shines at coming up with creative solutions to complex problems. She gives solid, well-considered legal advice. Best of all, she CARES. Kate Halvorsen isn't just a good lawyer, she's a good person. I highly recommend her.

I was involved in a dependency case with my 2 children that stemmed from an incident where their mother was arrested for child neglect. We had been separated for going on 2 years, and this particular incident was kept from me. We had been time sharing with the children for over a year, and I had my children with me every week. Mr Cserep was my court appointed attorney, and I do not recommend him after what I've experienced. Mr Cserep did the same thing to me that he was publicly reprimanded for in 2018, failing to communicate with his clients. I tried to reach Mr. Cserep for a month almost with no response. He was available though at our first court date through zoom in the courtroom, but was only available through audio since his camera was "broken". Mr. Cserep claimed he had been trying to reach me and wasn't able to. When I produced a list of all the times and ways I had tried to contact Mr. Cserep, the judge questioned him about whether or not he had received emails from me on certain dates, and Mr. Cserep admitted he did receive my communications, and neglected to respond. This is just one instance of the absurdity and aversion that I encountered throughout my family court experience. Mr. Cserep continued to disappoint me throughout this process until I ultimately decided to remove myself from the proceedings. I thought I would find justice and logic going before a judge, but instead I only found absurdity and aversion. My relationship with my children has suffered so much throughout this process and has ultimately caused irreversible damage. I have been hurt more than you could imagine, and ultimately alienated from my children. My children's mother was given custody after being convicted of felony child neglect, and I lost my rights as a parent. Very eye opening and very sad experience.

These are my brother’s words I hired Eulo&Smith in April 2024 to cover my 2023 & 2024 Polk Case as well as my 2024 VOP in Hillsbough. I met Marie taylor who charged me $3000 for my VOP and 2024 Cass. I also Paid her $10,000 plus 1.5x totaling to $15,000 for my 2023 Polk case. She came to meet me and told me things that she was not able to do. She promised alot that did not come. She ignored me and my family for weeks. She missed both of my court dates as well as missed promises to come see me. I was told in July 2024 that she quit the law firm. I was then appointed Ms. Shannon Bailey which works for Eulo&Smith who constantly ignored my family again as well as her client, me, in jail. She made promsies to come see me and never came. In the past 6 months, I've only seen attoneys who were fill ins from the law firm on my last 4 manditory doctetings. The judge was livid as it does not take 6 months to articulate a deal that was supposed to be settled. Eulo&Smith took on too many cases according to Ms. Bailey and they're not able to keep up. I'm being foreced into taking a deal or going to trial in 3 weeks becasue this law firm has not reached out to me but only once about my case details and to make matters worse, the lawyer to heard them quit, Ms. Taylor. I have had chance court date after court date for someone to come out here and see me as i write this from a Kiosk. I have no way to contact my attorney except for my family as they're being ignored. I told a fill in from my court date that i paid 1.5x for better and priorty service and the employee, which I'm assuming is from the Orlando office, that there is no such thing as 1.5x or priorty service. I was told from Bailey that taylor took on too many clients and quit which I'm assuming she did to get paid and left.

This lawyer is both unprofessional and incompetent. She did not believe it to be prudent to immediately inform one of her clients that his wife was also being charged in the same jurisdiction with a crime stemming from the same incident. There is simply no way that she was unaware of this charge for the entire time that she did not inform her client and her client should not be expected to discover this on her own. She has made it apparent to the public that her personal political beliefs are more important than providing the best representation to her clients. Avoid doing business with this woman at all costs.

Dealing with him as one of the worst attorney experience I’ve ever had. He is so unprofessional he will just start screaming if you don’t agree with him. I hired him to help represent my family he just seemed very combative and kept going on about politics as well. As I have no vested interest in politics Democrat or Republican he was obsessed with believing anybody in the republican party deeming them all Nazis. It was very unprofessional and would go on long rants about Donald Trump. He was more interested in doing this and listening to my case. He also was disrespectful to the judge which made it very difficult for me. The outcome of my case was terrible my worst fears. Please do not hire this man he appears to have mental problems.

Stay Away from Siam Joseph! Siam represented me in a landlord dispute case. The case was truly stressful and personal to me. I was never in good hands nor did I ever feel protected. He constantly tried to get me to settled. By settling, the landlord would have gotten away with highway robbery. I had to fight her attorneys and him throughout the course of this case. The judge represented me better than my attorney. The determination went in my favor! He never got me the monies awarded to me, he failed to recover ANY of the fees I was awarded and he had the nerve to lament that he didn't get the fees he should have gotten so I should forget about my fees and move on. He failed to recover hundreds of dollars for me. The filing fees alone were $320.85. I had many items that should have been refunded back. He is lazy, disrespectful and condescending! Hiring him was an awful decision. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Mr. Joseph came to my business establishment and collected money from me to render a service and he never did. He never returned my calls or my emails. He took $2500 and never did any work or us. We are filing a complaint against him with the Florida Bar. Mr. Joseph is not an honest man. I would never hire him or recommend him.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
