After I was sued, avvo led me to Jim. I consulted one other attorney but Jim impressed me enough not to look for any other and hire him for my case right away. My litigation went for over 3 years, but Jim along with Lauren and the whole staff supported me right till the end. The best thing is whenever I had a question, I didn't have to wait for the answers. All the matters were handled in a timely manner. Mary was awesome and I never had to worry about any missed dates or filings. Jim is always open to input, listens to you and explains the steps well. He is very professional, diligent and has a very good work ethic. He laid out all the scenarios before moving on to different phases in the case. The past couple of years have been hard on everyone but I found myself in a personal, medical and financial crisis recently. Filing bankruptcy seemed like the only daunting solution. Life has a way of connecting you with what you need, when you need it. I had a very unique opportunity to start a consulting business as I already had the client and just needed the assistance with the setup. Listen Cortney pulls no punches and honestly should get into politics because she will debate you into your next life if your coming against her client. Having her on my side made me feel lucky cause I would hate being on the receiving end of her questioning. She's professional and scary because again if she's fighting for you, you are gonna start praying those coming against you have tissues for the tears they might cry after she is done with them. The best thing about Cortney is even though she takes no bull and is passionate about defending you, she also makes you feel so protected and thought of. You will NEVER find a lawyer like this who cares about your rights rather than what they would earn. I had no idea what I was doing when I was looking for attorney, but what sold me was their slogan, "Women fighting for women." I knew immediately I made the right choice when Cortney and her firm reached out to me only 15 min after I emailed them! They were very caring when listening to my sexual harassment incident at work and were concerned for my wellbeing. I was constantly checked on and asked how I was doing through the course of the case and even offered to help pay for my therapy when I had trouble obtaining a therapist from my own doctors office! Burris Law supported me with an emergent and very personal legal issue involving a leasing dispute. I believed I was being taken advantage of by a landlord and property manager. I have two daughters and was very concerned about setting up a trust that would take care of them should something unspeakable happen to my husband or me. What an experience it has been. I was rear-ended at high speed by a truck on the freeway. My car was smashed and both my wife and I were both hurt badly. Things only got worse when my own insurance company tried to delay my claim while they “investigated” what had happened.

I was in a terrifying accident. I was hit by a car while crossing the street in a cross walk. I was knocked into the air, and my head actually hit the car before I was thrown to the pavement, I was badly hurt, with injuries including a broken collar bone, a concussion and numerous abrasions. Emergency Medical Services took me to the emergency room and I had to spend the night in the hospital. It was a painful injury and it took time to recover.

I hired Mr. Wade to expedite my divorce after being with an ill-prepared attorney for 1 1/2 years in which I didn't get past the discovery stage. I got quick results with Mr. Wade and my divorce was finalized after 4 months. His support staff quickly responded to all my emails and returned my calls. Mr. Wade is very experienced and knowledgeable and found an error in a filing by my ex-spouse's attorney and took immediate action on her behalf which saved me money and didn't prolong the divorce proceedings. He is involved in all the cases in his firm. Every Wednesday he conducts a meeting with his associate attorneys to consult and monitor their progress and provides them with his expert advice when necessary. Received a judgement for a credit card l defaulted on over 10 years ago, they were going to take 25% of my wages by garnishing my paychecks. Over the years I avoided the paperwork and didn’t have the money to pay it off. Looking all over the internet for a local consumer attorney to guide me through this situation. I was searching for a licensed defense attorney in California that specialized specifically in defending nurses against accusations from BVNPT/BRN and came across Ray & Bishop, PLC through a google search. I read reviews that former clients have posted about their representation and also looked up their webpage online. I decided to take a leap of faith after reviewing their reviews, website, and blog and seeing the successful comments and how satisfied clients who were represented by Ray & Bishop, PLC. were. I was dealing with a criminal matter that was dismissed but later was picked up by BVNPT and was sent an accusation that my license was being investigated and that they wanted to discipline me based on these allegations. The process from when the incident occurred to posting an accusation was approximately 5 years. Upon contacting Mr. James Pokorny's office, having used him when I was dealing with a juvenile violation, he was responsive and helped me resolve the case with a strong offer from the DA. Well, 10+ years later I received a Drunk in Public, and Mr. Pokorny and his associate Michele Gardenier again were there to help get me out of the situation. Pokorny referred me to one of his junior lawyers, Mr. Erik Bruner, who was absolutely fabulous.
Mr. Bruner had a close and respectful relationship with the City Attorney, making her more amenable to negotiation given the mutual respect. I had a pretty ugly police report, resulting from my attitude towards the officers which included slipping my (thin) wrists from the handcuffs twice, making rude/obnoxious comments, kicking and screaming, the whole gamut. Mr. Bruner managed to get me out of the situation largely scott free. He was able to get the DA to agree to entirely dismiss the case, as if nothing had ever occurred, provided I simply attend a few AA or NA meetings over a pre-specified time period. Very happy with this result. Had previously considered another attorney who acted as if the case would be impossible to get a reasonable deal, so I was shocked when Mr. Bruner was able to so quickly negotiate such an agreeable conclusion, after which my entire case disappears! I was shocked he was able to get such an attractive offer, in short time. GREAT ATTORNEYS, BOTH ERIK AND JAMES POKORNY!
ALSO, GREAT ASSOCIATE IN MICHELE GARDENIER, WHO WORKS FOR MR. POKORNY AND MR. BRUNER AND HANDLES MOST (IF NOT ALL) OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS OF THE CASE; SHE IS REALLY ON TOP IT!
My opinions here are particularly useful to someone evaluating a prospective attorney, as I had initially used a different attorney who failed to attend several required appearances; acted as if the case was impossible to overcome without harsh penalties; and clearly ran a lackluster operation from an administrative standpoint, hence the failed appearances discussed in the foregoing. I found it to be a huge relief once I had switched to Pokorny's offices and was working with Michele Gardenier, Erik Bruner and James Pokorny.

Jim Pokorny is an absolute class act. Talk about someone who knows the system, and crosses every T, and dots every I. I was arrested for domestic violence. When I discovered that my former employer had fabricated complete lies about my conduct at work and attempted to slander my name and also succeeded in getting my rightful unemployment denied to me I was at a complete loss of what to do.
I called a number of lawyers who were all dismissive and/or told me I didn't have a case. I was starting to feel really disheartened and didn't think there would be a way out of this and that my former company would get away with all of these heinous untruths and lack of justice.
Then - Assaf called me back after leaving a message at his firm.
He was incredibly willing and open to speak to me and hear all of the particulars of the case completely. His energy was fantastic and he said we have a case!
Throughout the weeks leading up to the hearing he was always available and we spoke many times and he was always willing to give me an enormous amount of his time and energy.

On the day of the hearing we were prepared and ready and we laid out the entire truth of the whole situation to the judge.
A few days later we got the decision - we had won!

Mr. Hammons represented me in my legal suit against a contractor who terminated work on an existing contract without any notification. The contractor was pre-paid for the majority of the contract and had completed only a portion of the work. The law suit was against the contractor's bond to recover pre-paid expenses for unfinished work and the expenses to repair the unfinished work that was damaging the property.

I have first come across to know her when i need to apply for E1 visa from reference of a good mutual friend. Addition to that, i had few visa rejections in the past which later i have learned that was due to inadmissibility issue which was determined by her. That was first strong signal which Ms. Aycan has built confidence in me that she is the one can get this job done straight. She is like a perfect surgeon whom diagnoses correctly so that in order to know how to cure.
Later, through dense and complicated stages of E1 visa application which interrupted and delayed for almost 2 years due to pandemic, Ms. Aycan was determined, dedicated, fully cooperative and supporting through all these times until finally interview date given at early of this year in early February 2022.
After long time waiting and hectic preparations, at interview unfortunately i was denied due to interviewing officer misinterpretation and misunderstanding of E1 visa qualifications.
Ms. Aycan has done fast assessment of this denial. She disputed to it by sending emails twice to the consulate asking reconsideration of their decision. This hasn’t worked unfortunately. The consulate asked us to reapply. So did as advised. The second interview has been settled for four months later in early June of 2022. This time fortunately i was interviewed by a visa officer whom did right assessment of the case. And, finally i was approved for 5 years E1 visa status. The interview was long and sweaty one. However, i was prepared well like a student studied well to pass final exam.
Behind all these efforts and success story, there was definite team work of my attorney Ms. Aycan, my employer whose put many hours of workload submitting sponsor company documents and joining zoom meetings, and myself whom prepared well and fought to the end.
And Ms. Aycan was mastermind and architect of this success. She has set exceptional role model how an attorney can be and should be. She hasn’t only worked for this case, also she has fought until to the end as she said after first interview denial “I am there and will fight to win as long as you tell me stop”. Truly, she has delivered his words to most extent by heart and all meanings she has done.
Ms Iskent has demonstrated exceptional knowledge in immigration law, superior communication , and a very close follow up.
Again, thank to her being my attorney. She is not attorney alone, she is a fighter of law if it is righteous cause.
