Mr. Sciranko assisted me with a protection order case when the respondent hired an attorney. He kept me fully informed throughout the process and was transparent about possible outcomes of my case. The judge ruled in my favor. Mr. Sciranko did not charge me frivolously, but instead made sure to perform only the work necessary to complete my case, and I ended up receiving a partial refund on my retainer. I would hire Mr. Sciranko again for any future family law matters, and would highly recommend him to my family and friends. He is knowledgeable and truly cares about his clients.

If you need an attorney for any of the services that Robert and/or his office provides - THIS is the office for you and more importantly your family. Robert was there every single step of the way always ensuring that he was present, available, and reliable. His responses were timely but better yet, he made sure that I remained focused on the facts and fighting for the best structure/outcome for my child. In family court, it can be extremely exhausting and draining in all aspects— emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually, and it is so easy as a parent to get caught up in the emotions, but Robert was there and knew exactly what needed to happen, what was going to happen, and even what needed to be said/drafted as part of our court order/case. He helped mitigate a lot of issues that my child’s father and I had while going through the process - and is extremely trustworthy and will make sure your ask is communicated clearly. All in all, I needed (and wanted) an honest attorney that will see things from all perspectives and ensure that I was aware of any potentials or possibilities, and Robert exceeded my expectations, wants, and desires. In result, Robert ‘won’ our case as our parenting plan/support order was adopted, we didn’t go to trial, and my child’s father agreed to our asks and order. I could not be any more thankful for his service, his knowledge, expertise, etc. Robert, on behalf of my family and I, I would like to say THANK YOU for all that you have done. Thank you for fighting for not just me but for my child. Thank you for making sure that I was focused despite adjusting to a new normal of being a single mother receiving no child support until the order was adopted. More importantly, thank you for your understanding and your willingness to be open, trustworthy, honest, and reliable. You are our ‘go-to’ and we couldn’t be any more thankful for the impact that you have had on our lives. I would also like to highlight another staff at this office, Melissa Holt. When Robert was in hearings all day and I was ‘caught up in the emotions’, I contacted the office in tears requesting a callback from Robert because at the time, I didn’t understand what my child’s father was proposing. Melissa was extremely knowledgeable, shared her prior experiences, clarified what some things meant, and comforted me the entire duration of the call. Like Robert, she made sure that I stayed focused on the facts, and made sure that I remained focused on getting the information that I needed to gather for Robert to Robert. Melissa, thank you for the wonderful service that you provided. It was a pivotal point and it was needed and meant more to my family and I than you could ever know. If you are looking for an attorney and office to represent you, I recommend Robert and The Law Office of Sophia Palmer 12/10 stars.

I would highly recommend Laura Dorey to anyone needing assistance with their SSD Claim. Laura was very helpful getting me ready to go before the Judge. When the Judge was finished asking me questions Laura asked me some more questions that she felt the Judge should hear to help my Claim and I feel those were the questions that made the Judges decision. I do not feel I would have had the same outcome if it hadn't been for her expert advice and support. Laura has continued to follow up with me after the Claim was approved to make sure everything was going smooth for me. Once again I highly recommend Laura to anyone that has been denied their SSD Benefits and have a legitimate Claim. Laura is very knowledgeable and compassionate and has proved to me that she can get the job done.

When I became disabled, and filed my paper work, I was denied. At that point I noticed Russell and Hill online and figured it wouldn't hurt to give them a call and get their opinion. They felt they could help me reverse the initial decision through appeal. I was denied a second time. They encouraged me to appeal again, which meant a hearing in front of a judge. They were with me all the way in preparation, filing the proper paperwork, and were with me during the hearing. It was wonderful to have Laura Dorey with me as my counsel, who is very knowledgeable and capable. I didn't know what I was doing, and really needed their help through the whole process. Finally there was a judgement in my favor, and my life has changed with their help. I don't feel I could have done this without them. I truly was about to give up.

Jennifer is a rare kind of lawyer, because she actually cares about what happens to her clients, while still remaining professional. In my experience in this unjust system, lawyers generally don't want to hear your side of the story or even the truth. They don't empathize with your situation, and don't give you any idea of what is going on in layman's terms. I unfortunately had the experience of being falsely charged by a very abusive ex who used the system to get back at me for finally standing up for myself and leaving him. Jennifer not only encouraged me and gave me her support, she also was very knowledgable and gave me all my options and possible foreseen outcomes. Like I said, a rare gem in a field of coal. My case was dismissed after only a few weeks of working with her. After almost a year of being tossed around and ignored by my public defenders before hiring her. I never thought I could afford the luxury of a private attorney, but her prices are very reasonable and she will fight for you like you're her own family. If I ever need a lawyer again, (I'm hoping not) I would not hesitate to hire her and have complete faith in her abilities. Three cheers for Jennifer! She saved me quite a bit of trouble.

I was new to this area and was in need of an attorney for a divorce, I have only met a few people here and started to ask around and I was given Brad Feit's name twice by 2 different people. So I decided to go and have a visit and after sitting down with him for just a few minutes he was so down to earth and I felt so comfortable. I have had attorney's in the past and boy most of them do not have that personality so this was a breath of fresh air to say the least. I asked for help in a payment plan as I was new to area and was living on savings till a land a job and he was so accommodating that also made me feel so much better and relieved. He knew his job and explained each step of the way that was going to happen, he also kept in touch with me via email and phone and if I had any questions he got back to me with answers. The outcome took a little longer than excepted but that was because of court time waits but the outcome I could not have been happier. Thank You Brad Feit for being there for me.

I contacted Will after I had a legal dispute with my landlord. Working with Will was fantastic – he gave me well researched legal advice, was incredibly levelheaded, and I left feeling like he really knew what was best for me. Although I was skeptical I would leave negotiations with a good resolution, Will followed up frequently and I was surprised to leave with the terms I had wanted it while still maintaining a good relationship with my landlord. Anyone who has Will as the lawyer should consider themselves lucky and feel confident that they have someone advocating for them.

Peter gets results. My ex wife did everything that she could in her power to conjure up lies in effort to send me to jail. I was frustrated but turned to Peter. We took our case in front of a jury, and he was able to contradict my ex- wife's testimony and extract the truth. The jury went to deliberations and with an hour they delivered a no guilty verdict. I was ecstatic and felt a major weight lifted off my shoulders. Unfortunately my legal problems didn't stop there. My ex-wife continued to use the legal system unethically attempt to send me away for along time. She falsely accused me of violating a no contact order by driving by her house. It was bought to my attention that there was a $25,000 warrant out for my arrest. Once again I turned to Peter. I was angry and agitated because of the incessant false allegations. Peter infused in me that he would thoroughly investigate and defend my innocence. One by one he began to uncover hidden truths about my innocence. He initially went to the prosecutor encouraging them to dismiss the case because there were just to many inconsistencies in my ex-wife's statements, and that I was an innocent man. The prosecutor was stubborn and refused to dismiss the case. Nonetheless, Peter remained steadfast and wouldn't give up. He continued to collect more information in effort to make it more apparent to their office that I was innocent. Finally after numerous of sit downs with the prosecutor analyzing all the evidence, they finally agreed with Peter and this dismissed the case. Thank You Peter!

I was referred to Bill from my Microsoft buddies back in the 90's because he supposedly defended Bill Gates II. I used him for a speeding ticket and negligent driving. He is awesome, but since he is now part of the largest law firm in the state and his focus is now on intellectual property it is fiscally prohibitive for me to hire him for a lowly speeding ticket because his rates have more than doubled. His invoice stated "$... to fight the evil forces of speeding." ;) I am now knowledgeable enough to fight my own traffic infractions pro se.

Micol was my public appointed defender for a case close to 5 years ago. Initially I was terrified of being appointed a public defender, and I believed that my case would be low priority and lost in a sea of other cases, as this was my impression of having a public defender, and not an expensive lawyer to work and focus on me as a top priority. Boy was I wrong. Micol was incredibly nice and professional. She listened to me thourghly and took her time to go through the evidence the police had and was honest about my opinions. She was active on talking with the state prosecutor and worked hard to get me the best deal possible. She did fantasies work. I have my self to thank as well, since i had done a lot of positive work on my life by the time I had to appear in court, which really helped me out. Micol was able to use this to help me stirke a deal with the prosecutor, getting one of my charges dropped, in agreeing to pleade to get the second one. She was able to talk them into only community service for a year (I had a lot of hours), and pay resitutution fees. I had the possibility of the deal also having my charge dropped to a gross misdemeanor, if I had a sizable payment of the restitution I could make during the court processes. Unfortunately I could not, so I was not able to get the best possible deal for myself, and still had to pleade to a Single felony conviction, but the fact that Micol was able to get almost have prosecutor lower my charges from a felony proves that she works hard for her clients. She was able to keep me out of jail, get one charge dropped, and build a positive case for me in the eyes of the state, and I am very thankful to have had her reprenting me. Could an expensive lawfirm have been able to do what Micol was so close to doing for me and keep me from having a felony... Maybe, but also maybe not. Overall if you get her to be your attorney, be honest, be good, be proactive, and be smart; Micol will be able to help you get through the rest.

Mr. Poisel is currently my attorney in a serious criminal defense case. Mr. Posiel is very reachable, communicative and serious about his clients. Eric W. Ferguson took two personal injury cases I couldn’t get other attorneys to touch, and won them both, for quite fair settlements. I was referred to him by a friend of a friend, who had a similarly successful experience. I found Eric to be personable, a straight shooter, honest, with a sense of humor. He’s a younger attorney than some, and in that early career stage where he’s still accessible, and not just chasing the huge dollar, big cases. The two cases: #1: Behind an espresso establishment, my left foot rolled off the edge of a small paver, which had been set unevenly, in a path across a bark area. My fifth metatarsal snapped. I’m in my sixties. It took four months for the thing to heal. That was in 2010. A downtown attorney told me there wasn’t a case. Eric took it and negotiated a respectable settlement from the property management company’s insurance agency. #2: My truck was tail-ended on the Alaskan Way Viaduct, in 2011. The driver pulled a hit-and-run, but I had his license number. Damage to my truck was minimal, but the impact caused my post-surgery lower back problems to make my left foot numb. Again, other attorneys I talked to weren’t optimistic about me having a case. Evidence and medical bills were small, but Eric negotiated a settlement from the other driver’s insurance company.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
