Shanon Quinley just finished my two year divorce process. She has been there to settle the case through mediation when my ex and I were getting along and she has been there to fight for me when that was needed. She is an excellent attorney. She is tough and straight forward when she needs to be and she is compassionate and there to listen when I needed her to be. I am so grateful I was given her name and made the call and decision to hire her! I couldn't have gone through this with out her and wouldn't have wanted to. Thank you Shanon!!! I just can't thank you enough!!! Shanon is extremely professional and organized and personal and kind. I can't say enough good things about her. In the end my ex and I were able to come to an agreement and that I credit to advice and action from Shanon. I wouldn't hesitate for a second before recommending Shanon Quinley to someone.

I went to Valerie for advice to be sure I was doing everything possible to protect my son's interests in the divorce and she gave me a clear list of documents I needed to get signed to be sure I had what I needed should there be a fight in the next 18 years. She knows what she's doing and her calm demeanor gave me confidence when officially filing my divorce. Highly, highly, highly recommend.

I had Greg look into the option of finishing a legal separation agreement as a divorce. He spent quite a bit of time researching my options and presented me with a memo that was extensive and thorough. He answered all of my questions and was neutral and didn't give any opinions just the facts. The memo was well laid out and professional. I feel he did more work than he charged. I would not hesitate to use him again.

Excellant attorney. He is very ehtical and helped me fight off a slew of attorneys against my ex wife. Her attorneys charged 7 times more than Jeffrey. He really tries to settle your case immediately. Of course , if you have an ex who doesnt and has attorneys who just want to ram up the bill, then again Jeffrey is your option. I would hire him for anything.

Raj Moroak and team were incredibly professional and far exceeded my expectations for the case at hand. They delivered the best results a client could ask for and I couldn't be more appreciative. If you are seeking legal counsel, I highly recommend starting here. Even if your case doesn’t fall in the realm of his specialty, he has a network of equally qualified attorneys that are capable of delivering the results you are looking for.

I was recommended to see George by a friend who's family has used him for legal advice and assistance in administrating many estates, trusts, etc. George is professional, courteous, and makes no issue with telling you how it is. My personal case forced him to deal with one of my family members who was filing frivolous claims and unjustly contesting work he and I had done. It was one of the most bizarre time consuming experiences I have ever had and George was there to assist me the whole way through. He gives advice and makes sure you are adequately informed, but never blurs the notion that he is an employee and you are the client. Ultimately, everything is your decision if you hire him. His receptionist is awesome and even listened to me complain at times when I didn't understand what was going on. It made me feel like I wasn't going alone through the situation and that I had a team to support me. I have recommended him to others and will continue to. He's one of the those rare attorneys who does good work for a fair price. He will never do unneeded work to soak up money; this is a private practice so he doesn't need to bill hours. When working with a trust, this is important because the funds are finite. Thank you George and if you didn't already get this from my review, I HIGHLY recommend George Alspaugh.

I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a lawyer to seek Peter. I don't think there is a better lawyer out there who can do what he does. He is very knowledgeable, dedicated and professional. He is invested in his clients and is very well liked by the judges. I retained him for a personal and special case and he went above and beyond and continues to help me through the hardest time of my life. I would recommend Peter to anyone but specifically I suggest any unwed father going through a custody battle or contested adoption, please contact him, He is absolutely the best.

If anyone has ever gone through a bankruptcy case you know how lonely and frightening it can be. Jane Cervantes walked us through the process and dealt with the courts minimizing our fears. Jane's dealings with the court were aggressive and always kept our interests in mind. Jane takes a personal approach that you will not find in other attorney's, she cares for her clients and is a bulldog vs. the courts. Jane got us through our Chapter 13 case with zero hiccups and a fresh start. Happy it is behind us and I thank Jane for her professionalism and experience! I HIGHLY recommend Jane for anyone going through what we did.

Gene is currently representing me in three business cases in LA Superior Court. He has done a great job in all three against two attorneys who are hell bent on destroying me and my business. He has used his 36 years of experience in these cases to shut them down every time they have tried something. They have made absolutely no headway in any of the cases and I am confident that I will win all three cases and that, in one of them, the Plaintiff will end up paying me damages and attorney fees. It is going to shock them when it happens because they don’t have any idea who they are dealing with. And this isn’t the first time I have seen this happen. A few years ago Gene represented me in my official capacity. Somebody brought a really ridiculous lawsuit against me as an individual and her attorney made all kinds of threats to the effect that I would be removed from my office and that his client would replace me. Gene just ignored the threats and kept things cool and calm on our side. He wrote excellent opposition papers filled with excellent research right on point. And then when we got to court, Gene just walked into Court, basically took over the courtroom. He took the other attorney back into the Judges office, and, in about thirty minutes, it was all over. We won and the other attorney and his client went home with their tails between their legs. That is how it works with Gene. He is not loud or crazy as many attorneys are. He calmly lets his knowledge and experience speak for him and, in the end, they go down in flames wondering what the heck happened to them. And all along the way he communicates with you on important matters. I know that no attorney has the time to let you know every little thing happening with your case. Because I trust him to come through in the end, I just stand back and let him do his job. That is hard to do for a lot of people but it pays off in the end. I very highly recommend him. You will not find a better attorney. Larry

Mr. McGill used his knowledge of the law to help me circumvent legal and ethical barriers to rewrite my elderly girlfriend’s Trust and estate documents. His network of associates helped me obfuscate my intentions so I have successfully taken control of assets that were intended for her members of her family. I used her funds to essentially put myself in control of her life and no one can do anything about it. If you seek revenge on those more successful than yourself, look no further than Edmond McGill. Revenge is not only on the menu, it is all that is served.

I found this attorney to be very helpful. I didn't know how to navigate the system after being in a car crash and everybody told me it would take months to a year to settle and he took care of my needs in a very timely and satisfactory manner. The letter he wrote was clear and concise and did the trick! The advise he gave was spot on and he never made me feel stupid because I didn't know the lingo. I highly recommend Alan. Hopefully, I will never have to, but if I needed a lawyer again, it would be him.

I met Kevin Yeam about 10 minutes before we entered the courtroom. I have to admit I was very nervous. My regular lawyer was called out on another case. I was assured that Kevin was a good lawyer with 30 years of litigation experience. He also prepared and drafted most of the documents and responses and he would be the best representative for me. I trusted this law firm. We did not speak too much while we waited for my case to be called but when he stood up to speak for me, I WAS AMAZED. Kevin was outstanding; well-spoken and articulate and STRONG. If I had any doubt at all that I would lose, it was over once he started to talk about my case. He was meticulous, specific, he knew EVERYTHING about my case, details, actions of the other party, the law and the codes. He knew exactly how to spin it. It was outstanding (like watching Law & Order). Kevin was the perfect mix of powerful + confident + respect that you need to have in the courtroom. I knew I won before Kevin was done talking. Even the Judge looked at the other party and said “you will lose”. They withdrew and I WON. Then it was all over and he took the time to sit with me outside the courtroom - to explain procedures of what just happened and why. I can truthfully say, I don’t know if any other person could have had a better focus on representing me as well as he did, with a strong effort on achieving a successful outcome. Kevin was everything that you want your lawyer to be when you are trying to fight for your life. He was outstanding and I am so full of appreciation.

Robbi Rizzo is an exceptional counselor. I had a complicated case that involved a corporate issue (I shared ownership with my ex in the corporation). In addition, I and my minor child are residing in different county (with venue in SLO). My case lasted 3 years. I changed several attorneys. When Robbi picked up my case (6 months ago), it seemed almost hopeless. Highly ethical, she advised me about the best strategy to take, and went beyond my expectation professionally advising me on the corporate issues with the best outcome I could hope for. I appreciate her great personality, as I felt her sincere desire to assist me, and not just to perform her professional duty. Through the case, she lead me step by step, responding promptly to any of my e-mails with useful comments. I've always felt supported. Without any hesitation, I would recommend Robbi Rizzo to anyone who is looking for a strong legal defense.

From my Yelp review: I don't even know where to start with Adrian. Subbing Adrian in on my high-conflict military divorce military divorce case was one of the best choices I made throughout my litigation. At first, I really couldn't understand clearly his advice and actions throughout my case and sometimes I fought him on it. But he always remained calm and collected. My case is not over yet but I am extremely grateful to have him as my attorney. He was always upfront even when I was not understanding. He has fought for me AND the rightful way. He didn't even want me to call or email him me sometimes just to avoid me incurring more "attorney fees" unless I had a list of questions and concerns. Not many attorneys care how much you email or call them, but he did and that's important also Because the those monthly invoices are no joke. In conclusion, we all need an attorney like Adrian and his team at Mesnick Law. Adrian was very knowledgeable when it came to family law in the state of California and I really wish I hired him sooner.

Hiring Matthew Long was the best decision I could have made. After consulting with several other attorneys, I found Matthew to be the most knowledgeable, professional and of the highest integrity in his dealings with me. My divorce has been an emotional roller coaster and complicated by real estate holdings and a business that is community property but under my spouse's control. Matthew knows what questions to ask, what information needs to be uncovered and has been extremely responsive, thoughtful and compassionate.

I spent much time reading online reviews of criminal defense attorneys in the Inland Empire area. A friend recommended me to Ms.Jacklyn, saying he had yielded very positive results. I was skeptical at first, because I've never really trusted lawyers. Upon my first and initial consultation with Ms. Jacklyn, I could tell I was in the right hands. She isn't here to just nickel and dime you, she actually cares. I know every review I have read online for other attorneys says they care, but Ms.Jacklyn sincerely does. Truly grateful for her honest and diligent work on my case. I never write reviews, but you deserve one Ms. Jacklyn. THANK YOU!

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
