I am grateful for the amazing work Kristen has done with my child support case. I was confused and frustrated with my ex's motion at the beginning, and found Kristen for help. Kristen was patient and knowledgeable, and explained the process and laws clearly. I felt comfortable every time after I talked to her. She got well prepared for my court date, and stood up and fought for me. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs help in her practice areas.

Worst law firm that I have ever dealt with. I would totally recommend someone else. Southpark family law is unprofessional on all levels. They will not take time for you nor your case but will take the time to collect or ask about there money over and over. They don’t follow their own contracts. You can never get a hold of Meg and then you have multiple people in your file when you hired only one lawyer. I really don’t understand how any of them have there License to do this. I’m telling yall to stay away from this law firm, they will totally disappoint you.

I paid this firm over a month ago to complete a simple deed transaction for me. We had a call to discuss exactly what I needed and was assured this was not a problem. They would never respond to me by phone even though I was told I would be called back by the receptionist on multiple occasions. Over the month I never received details on the process. At the end of the month they sent me an email to tell me they were not experienced enough to handle my simple deed transfer and refunded me my money. Throughout the process I simply needed follow up or a call to discuss the status. I don't like to leave a bad review but this was very disappointing.

I was an Intended Parent for a gestational surrogacy journey. Amy was a pleasure to work with every step of the way. She was always prompt and efficient. Her fees were reasonable and she was quick to answer any questions I had. When doing my research on which lawyer to choose, I asked for recommendations via a surrogacy facebook group. Amy's name repeatedly came up as the go to lawyer for all things surrogacy. I can see why she came so highly recommended. She definitely knows her stuff when it comes to surrogacy and is a true professional. You won't be sorry for choosing her as your lawyer! Her paralegal Carolyn was also a pleasure to work with as well!

This is the second time I have have used Will over the last ten years. 10 years ago I was faced with a nightmare of a divorce and Will guided me though a very complicated settlement. I was devastated and Will was patient and understanding. Recently a change in circumstances affected my divorce contract. Will effectively amended the contract to make sure my best interest was met. I highly recommend him for any services involving Family Law.

I am writing this letter to recommend Will Medlin as a family law attorney. As a father of two teen boys and a small business owner, I could no longer remain in a marriage that had taken its toll on my sons and me. Will was recommended to me as an attorney who uses intelligence and reason to protect the rights of those he represents. As this was my first marriage, I was quite nervous and ashamed to be in this situation. My marriage failed and now I had to share all kinds of personal information with a stranger. These feelings didn’t last long. Will is a kind, no-nonsense attorney that is detailed in his fact finding, organized in his communication and focused on the big picture. He provides reasoned guidance and will not hesitate to “shoot straight” with a client that gets caught up in the emotions of the battle. Will has a calm demeanor, but he knows how to deal with an opposing attorney who uses fear and “pit bull” tactics to sway a mediator. As with any negotiation, nobody walks away from the table 100% happy. Will pulls from his experience and resources to help his clients understand when the time is right to accept an offer. Going through a divorce is one of the toughest choices an individual can make. Children, real estate and business investments make this decision exponentially more difficult and stressful. There are so many more considerations that only an extremely talented attorney can see. Will Medlin is this attorney. He resolved my separation agreement quickly and was one of the few bright spots on a journey I never wanted to take. Will is a great attorney and a wonderful guy. Once you work with him, you will agree.

My case, as most, was complexed and messy. Will was simply amazing. Every turn of event and every time I had any issue he was on top of it and always responded to my every question, issue, etc. even when I know he was not in the office! He was very patient with me and respectful in all aspects. He always prepared me for what I feel was 100% accurate. Many attorney's I have found will tell you what you would "like to hear," however this was never once the case with Will. I am very happy to have chosen Will. The firm was also very accommodating and very easy to work with. If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would. If you're looking for an honest, fair, and a GREAT attorney, your search should be over.

I was very pleased with the Law Offices of Banks Huntley. I called and got an immediate response. Mr. Huntley said he felt sure he could help me with my issue. He was aware of what the cost would be and between the court cost and his fee, I felt he offered a very reasonable solution to handle my case. Within a very short period of time, I got an email with the resolution, which was just as he had described. I could not be more pleased with the outcome and the services I received. Choosing Irene to help me through my divorce was the best decision I could have made. She was able to help guide me through a difficult process, making it as simple as possible. When it came to negotiating a settlement, she helped by producing innovative ideas to solve complex problems. She helped me understand what details were important to me and I should push for, and just as importantly when I was being unreasonable and should compromise. In the end we ended with a fair settlement, and the best possible plan for my daughter. Divorce is difficult, but anyone in that situation would benefit from reaching out to Irene.

I approached the Law Office of Kelli Allen in about February of this year ( 2023) to help me submit my Green Card Application. I was assigned to Berna Chacon- a bilingual specialist in data accumulation for Green Card submissions. Thank G-d I was. She was absolutely outstanding. I mean truly- it took me a while to accumulate the necessary data ( necessary being whatever Berna told me to put together) and we submitted my application in June of this year. Today is November 24, 2023, and guess what- I have my Green Card Truly great work by Berna -what a help she was! I couldnt have done it so seamlessly without her!. Prices at this office are reasonable to. And nice, and accomodating people! I would go out of my way to recommend this law office and Berna to handle anybody's immigration matters. What a great job they did and I am one happy camper! Michael F

Got over $$3,500 stolen from my attorney. He promise to take our case to sue a company and every time we asked for updates he will have an excuse. It’s been a year (12 months) and no work was done, we have ask for our money back and he was failed to provide an explanation on where the money is. He said he has to deduct his hours which no work was ever presented to us. In the whole year NOTHING was ever done. PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Update: Ms Andrew provided me with an invoice where he charged us $250 for just REVIEWING emails, this means he DID NOT REPLY, he did not do anything but received it. Emails that he decided to ignored, he wants us to sign an invoice for a check when he is not even acknowledging the $200 that Mr River promise to add to our fund. He is also charging us more than what we had agreed on. The agreement was that he was going to charged $250 for every HOUR Working on our case. He is charging us $250 for emails WE send asking about our case! EMAILS he decided to ignored. And unless he has a disability I can’t understand how long it took him to read my email. We got over $3,250 for him LOOKING at our emails. Please be careful because if that’s not stealing money idk what is. In the refund the wants to give us is only for $375 back and asking us to sign a disclosure saying “we are happy with his service and all charges are accurate” IF THATS NOT STEALING PEOPLES MONEY, I DONT KNOW WHAT IS! Funny you claimed we didn’t dispute the charges when we are asking you to send us the drafting work you claim you did. And NOTHING HAS BEEN PROVIDED. WE ARE DISPUTING ALL THOSE $3,250 that you did not work, you ignore emails. I dispute those charges as soon as you sent them.

Andrew was 45 minutes late to our first court appearance. I was sent multiple reminders from his firm to appear at the correct time, and I was getting more and more stressed when he did not show up. I called his office and they had no idea where he was and assured me that they would contact him and find out. Finally he showed up 45 minutes late. I did not get an apology or explanation for why he was late. Andrew was representing me in a tenant eviction where the tenant was living in my property without leaving for 6 months. This is the first time that I have ever gone through an eviction so I hired him. He was supposed to check the rent bonds each month so that we could remove the tenant any time they did not pay their bonds to the court. He failed to check the October rent bond because we were attempting to negotiate with the tenant. Instead he waited until November and then realized the tenant hadn't paid in October and we could have filed to remove her weeks earlier. This inaction lost me 1 month of income. He will probably reply here that he didn't check the bond because he was negotiating - but I fail to see why both tasks are mutually exclusive. I am literally paying for his time (retainer paid for his hourly rate so it's not like I asked him to do this for free), so why were the tasks I asked him to do not done? When I asked Andrew to acknowledge this mistake or provide me with a discount on his rate for the income that he lost me, he sent me the following reply, direct quote: "I have 100 other cases going on besides yours. The rent bond information is publicly available. So, it is also something that you could have checked just as easily." If he has 100 other cases and can't give my case the attention it needs, maybe he should take on less cases. And obviously if I was a legal expert and could have gone through this process on my own, I wouldn't have needed a lawyer in the first place. EDIT - He was absolutely 45 minutes late. To deny that would be an absolute lie. I sat in the court room by myself while the judge skipped over me and went to other cases, and she directly said that we can come back to mine when my council shows up. And I did bring this up to Andrew by asking him to state clearly (by email) exactly what time he would be at court for the next court appearance. As for why I said "Thank you" in emails??? and didn't call out the issues immediately it's because I was afraid that if I call out ineffective work during my case, that I would be retaliated against and the work wouldn't be performed at all. There's a reason I had to follow up over 100 times. You are also misrepresenting me here. I NEVER once asked why you didn't file the writ of possession while we were negotiating. I understand ethics very well. I only asked why you didn't VERIFY that the tenant paid her bond. Isn't the saying "knowledge is power"? When the tenant flaked from turning up to sign the negotiated paperwork, we should have been able to file the Writ of Possession Immediately. Or even immediately after our court date. Instead because you never checked this fact, we had to wait weeks!!

Service - 0 stars Quality of work - 0 stars Any type of case resolution - 0 stars A waste of my entire fee that was paid. Mr. Gordon - It seems all your time trying to prove to my cc company that you did the work I paid for was most of the work you did, because that's more work than I ever saw for myself.... Which is what I told them, and the reason it was in your favor was because one of the deadlines of my cc company to reply to your response expired and I was not aware. As I explained to them, all the paperwork you showed them were never provided to me, and the reason I asked for a refund in the first place was due to your lack of communication, professionalism, and any type of quality of work (or lack thereof). It's the only logical explanation in the first place, since I have paid money for services which I have never received, and I have no resolution of the case you were hired to perform. Presumably, if it took you “several hours” to refute my claim, you didn’t start out with enough evidence to disprove it in the first place. And my “audacity” comes from being the fact that I am the one that ended up wasting every penny I gave you, with nothing to show for it. I think that you are the audacious one, to think that I am not deserving of any refund, because you had to spend time to manufacture evidence of your work you did for me. Edit to respond to your edit: I'm responding so that we stick to the facts as opposed to manufacturing hyperbole and you misrepresenting what happened, and taking no responsibility for your actions as a professional. To reiterate, I lost the chargeback because, as the bank told me multiple times, we went past the deadline required by the bank to respond. In addition you showed the bank "evidence" of work you had done for the case, which I had never seen before, and could have easily been manufactured after the fact. And to keep facts straight again, I never disputed the fee charged for the consultation, only the fees for the case, which was never performed. Way back I asked for a refund from you when there wasn't even any work performed yet, and you offered me a very small fraction of my fee. It was then that I realized you were not going to be reasonable and I initiated the chargeback. Throughout the time of the case I had to continuously do my own legwork for the case and emails to you went unanswered for days at a time. I was also extremely dissatisfied with your attention to my case, and knowledge of procedure, which is another reason I asked for a refund. I had to hire different representation for my case due to your lack of attention and resolution. I find it interesting in all of your responses you never claim to have represented me or found any resolution in my case. I think if you had finished the case, and then I initiated a chargeback, that would be a scam, not me trying to get some money back before the case was started because I was dissatisfied with your service. You offered me approximately a 25% refund of my original fees, which was before anything was even started for the case. If I had been represented to my satisfaction, or you recovered any damages in my case, I would have not asked for anything back, obviously. In this case the scam seems to be accepting my total fee with no resolution or progress to my case, and I find it preposterous that you expect you should be compensated for time responding to my dispute, when I was dissatisfied with my service in the first place. Also I think we should leave anyone accepting credit card payments from me out of the equation, since you have zero knowledge of the subject. I hope my fee is worth it to you, since you seem to have a business practice of accepting funds for work not done, which seems like more of a scam to me. Merry Christmas

I hired Elspeth Crawford in March of 2015 for a hit and run and a DUI. I consulted with Elspeth the following Monday of my arrest. I hired her for a fair price. She and her partner immediately got my drivers license back from the court house. She told me exactly how she wanted to handle the case, including which witnesses to bring in. On the 4th court continuance, all of my charges were dropped.

My wife and I were named in a lawsuit due to a breach of contract. Our roofing contractor didn't pay his roofing materials supplier, so we were being sued by the supplier also. I hired Elspeth to handle this legal matter. She was very courteous and professional and assured me that this lien on our house and lawsuit would be taken care of. I gave her copies of the insurance checks cashed by the contractor and also checks cashed by him for our portion of the contract such as insurance deductible. With in a few weeks, Elspeth had this matter cleared up and the opposing attorney removed the lien from our house. I would definitely use Elspeth Crawford again if needed!

Chelsea Gajewski is an absolutely stellar attorney. Beyond being in a position where I needed her services to handle custody, it was a wonderful experience working with her. She consistently did a wonderful job informing and guiding my decision making. I can imagine it can be difficult to tell clients when something is unrealistic or unlikely, but I was most grateful for the hard advice. It gave me confidence in knowing that I was being advised on my best interests, as opposed to just being told what I want to hear. As emotionally taxing as the process can be, I was appreciative of the kind words of encouragement she offered. It may seem minor, but just hearing "You are a good Dad" can make a world of difference. Chelsea is competent, judicious, honest and empathetic. I sincerely couldn't have asked for a better attorney.

Tia came highly recommended to me from a close friend that had retained her services in the past. Life changes of this magnitude are always very hard to cope with and being stuck in a legal mess does not help the situation. That’s where Tia came in; she is knowledgeable, professional, and broke things down in a way I could understand them. She is responsive, personable, and provides the information needed to make a decision without pressuring to do one thing or another, truly a valued consultant during a very difficult time. Plus she has a great assistant! I wholeheartedly recommend Tia’s services to anyone that is faced with the unfortunate reality of the need to retain them. I consider her office a first stop for all things legal so she can either assist or refer to someone she trusts and I would advise anyone that needs solid legal advice in her field of specialty to give her your business. I was not disappointed and I believe she has the experience and expertise to handle anyone's situation.

I couldn't be happier with the result Bree from Arnold & Smith obtained in my family law case. Before retaining the firm, I was with another attorney who closed up shop with virtually no notice. From the moment I stepped foot into Arnold & Smith's offices, I was treated with respect and told what our likely outcome was and what the best strategy would be. I was kept up to date regularly and was kept in the loop on all communications. Best of all, when it came down to crunch time, our main objective was achieved. I couldn't recommend the firm, and in particular Bree, more highly.

Bree not only handled a lot of the behind the scenes grind on my custody case, but also took the lead on another important issue for me. She was always very responsive to my emails, called me even after-hours to discuss my case, was on-time to court, and her court room presence was awesome. She made my case look almost too easy, even though I know it was a complicated issue. I walked out of court with what I needed, and it was a great experience. She was also instrumental in resolving my custody issue, handled really tough negotiations, and brought the case to a great conclusion along with her colleague Matt Arnold. She may not tell you what you want to hear, but she will tell you the truth, and that is very important in these types of cases. She is clearly experienced, and that experience equaled a more precise attorney, which in turn reduced costs. I know this is something on everyone's mind that has to get an attorney. I have no doubt that anyone that works with Bree will know immediately they got the right person for the job. All you have to do is *follow her instructions*, give her the facts, and do your part, and I believe Bree will get the best possible results for your situation.

Mollie and her staff are what we call a force to reckon with. They work as a team to provide clients the results they need. I am so, so, so grateful for Mollie. From day one, I knew she was the lawyer for me. I went in for child custody matters and she listened and jot down every concern or question I had. She would break down every legal term in the lengthy and complicated custody order so that I would understand what was written. What I adore about her is her attention to detail. She asked if I had any questions and she would explained every step of process that she took to ensure we were on the same page and made sure that I was satisfied with each decision. She is a skilled negotiator who kept my best interest at heart for my child and to benefit me having the time with my child while moving across state for military relocation. Mollie is someone you want by your side, she is not just a lawyer, she is more than that, she has a charm about her and she does care about your best interest and what she can do to make her client get the results they need. Another thing is that she is flexible with my case, she worked around my schedule because I was back in forth from VA and NC and was moving across state during the time of court. Mollie was always easily within reach, whether it be by email, phone, or meeting. I am so pleased with her go-getter attitude and making the impossible to possible. Mollie makes things happen and I can’t ask for a better lawyer and if I have any future issues she will be the lawyer I will call. Finally , Mollie is brilliant, kind, compassionate, passionate in her profession, realistic, efficient, pleasant, and accessible: all the qualities you want in an attorney who is helping you with family law matters.

I met with Brittany to get a divorce when I wasn't sure what I was going to do because I have several children and didn't want them to get seperated from me. I didn't know how much she was going to cost me because I have heard a lot of attorneys charge a lot of money and she never pressured me to pay anything and told me just to take some time to think about everything that she told me and if it was what I really wanted to do. She was very honest and was very thoughtful and nice and I felt like she really listened to me and wanted to help me even when she said there were some things that she couldn't do or that weren't allowed by the judges. I decided not to seperate right now because of my kids but if I do in the future she is definetely the attorney that I will use. I really liked talking to her and it was very rellieving.

It is very difficult to do on your own. I felt awkward about everything I was going through and not realizing how hard it was to do on my own. I contacted the office through email and they immediately respond back to me within 12 hours and started working on the case right away. The ladies did not judge make me feel uncomfortable about my situation and they was very honest about the whole case from beginning to end. They did not make me feel like I was just a client they made me feel like I was part of the team being available anytime of the day or night. They work so well to together as a team and communicated with each other to the point if I contacted the office all the staff could assist me with any question. They kept me informed with all document and contact with the ex attorney. I felt very secure with their law firm cause they was very knowledgeable about my whole case, being honest and upfront from the beginning gave a sense of comfort. I am very satisfied with all their work, knowledge, with caring attitude and concerns that they all came together as a team and poured into my case. What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
