After reviewing different attorneys I chose Peggy because she had been practicing law for many years and in particular because she had a background working for Social Security and knew how things work and finally because she was a woman. I feel that all of my "reasoning" was well founded and am glad that I went with my "reasoning"! I first spoke with Peggy by phone and explained my situation to her and she gave me her direct, honest and open opinion. She acknowledged my case would be difficult, but that she felt I had a strong case, but felt her representation could have a winning outcome. I was glad I found her, she took my case and was involved from the very initial (she helped me from filing my initial application) stage all the way through. Many people don't hire an attorney until they've been denied at least once or twice. I wanted an attorney to help and represent me from the very start. She is very busy, but her staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, thorough, communicative and Peggy was available for questions or concerns if ever needed/wanted. It took a while to get to the final stages of my case and of course I was very worried, but Peggy came through. She met with myself and my family (for their input, since they were around, had to help me and knew first-hand my situation) and reviewed everything with detail, allayed my worries and concerns and from the hip told us what she felt and thought could happen etc. If I had any "advice" I would give anyone is to hire an attorney when you are thinking of first applying (it helps). If avoidable, do not wait until you are denied at any point of the process.

Peggy Stevens represented me with my social security disability benefits case . . . . I'm so glad I chose her for this job, she was honest, straight to the point, and kept me updated regularly. Peggy had two jobs with my case, my benefit dealings and my impatient behavior. She handled both very well. Scott was my attorney for a divorce that got very messy. Among other things, my ex-wife attempted to relocate my daughter to another city, had me served with a frivolous restraining order, and tried to have our parenting consultant removed after our divorce.
Throughout all of this, Scott provided excellent representation and guidance. Early in the case, he laid out a roadmap for how I would be able to maintain involvement in my daughter’s life and protect her interests. He showed me how I would be at serious risk of losing parenting time with my daughter if I did not make the right choices. As the divorce progressed, things went as Scott predicted, and I now have a custody and parenting time arrangement that is great for both my daughter and me.
Scott was never rattled by anything he encountered with my case. He has deep knowledge of Minnesota family law, and he had a strategic approach to every situation we faced. He gave me wise advice and encouraged me to take the high road. He was highly professional and ethical, and he helped me minimize my legal costs. I can tell that he cares about helping his clients, not just getting the job done.
Another thing I appreciated was that Scott tries to avoid litigation whenever possible. He prefers to settle things through mediation or direction negotiation, and he avoids pointless conflict. However, when my ex-wife took aggressive actions against me, Scott gave strong responses and forced her to back down. He tries to keep things amicable, but he is not afraid to take a strong stance when necessary.
We had only a single court hearing, when my ex-wife attempted to have our parenting consultant removed after the divorce. Scott gave compelling oral arguments and helped the judge see our perspective, even though she initially was inclined to grant my ex-wife’s request. She ruled in our favor after the hearing, and there is no doubt that Scott’s courtroom arguments were key to that outcome.
I feel very fortunate to have worked with Scott in my divorce. I could not have asked for a better outcome, and Scott’s representation and advice are what made it possible. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a family law attorney.

I had a very difficult family law issue regarding my ex-spouse's ongoing parenting plan violations and documented parental alienation efforts on my daughter. I had spent years working w/ past attorneys and family therapists to help ameliorate some of the more destructive effects of my kids' mother's behavior. The clock was running out quickly for any type of legally enforceable remedies - family therapy or otherwise.
Scott promptly assessed my case via his legal assistant and decided that I had run out of legal remedies. I still needed more info so I scheduled a paid consultation. When we finally met, Scott immediately cut to the chase and in just a few minutes gave me a complete and definitive legal prognosis about winning any additional legal action or even getting my daughter into any type of reunification therapy. Zippo chance. I had previously spent thousands working w/ another attorney just trying to get this answered.
Scott correctly perceived that our family issues were far more than legal. He spent the remaining 45-50 minutes of our 1 hour consult giving me some of the best family therapy advice I ever had. He had seen a lot of parental alienation cases and understood the long-term affect on adolescents and parents. He was empathetic. He understood the big picture. I would go so far as to say that single session was transformative. I so wish I had found him at the beginning of my divorce. With Scott, I knew I would have definitely gotten what I paid for.
For all who read this, please be aware that for many going through a divorce, you get one chance to do it right. After that, you can nibble at the edges w/ some modifications but if you don't have a competent attorney fighting for you from the start, you could get utterly steamrollered. I spent more on legal fees trying to enforce a court order drawn up by my original "econo-lawyer" then I did for the original divorce.
Scott knew what I needed and not only did he not try to sell me more futile legal services, he even waived the consult fee. His generosity of time, counsel and spirit made him stand out head and shoulders w/ any other family attorney I worked with over the past 7 years.

Kristen is, in a word, sensational.
But, of course, I will expand. My divorce was complicated. I came out of an incredibly high-conflict marriage and knew almost immediately that the divorce would be the same. It was. It included false allegations against me, as well as a number of other incidents that rattled me.
Through it all, Kristen was a steadying constant. In the beginning, when I was the most emotionally wounded and the least capable of rational thought, Kristen took the time to help guide me through the healing as well as the legal process. That is to say, she went well beyond the concepts I would have expected of a lawyer. For her, our professional relationship wasn't just about getting me through a complicated legal process; it was also about getting me through an even more complicated personal journey.
Of course, she was equally great in legal matters. She's an expert who knows her business and who draws upon years of experience to tirelessly advocate for her clients. In my first conversation with her, Kristen predicted what would happen. Every prediction ended up correct, no matter the roadblocks we faced in getting there.
Except for two things, both self evident positives. She told me what the financial settlement would like but in the end I walked away with an even more favorable outcome than she guessed I would. She also predicted the divorce could take between eighteen and twenty-four months. It took ten. In both cases, I am convinced the positive outcome owe directly to Kristen's efforts.
My favorite part about Kristen's counsel, by the way, was that she never told me what I wanted to hear. She told me what was necessary, what was true, what was legally right. And she did it with empathy, concern, professionalism, and sincerity.

I guess I call it good luck that I was so fortunate to find Kristen! In the past I had dealt with terrible attorneys that just ripped me off. I had THE divorce the from hell, very messy with multiple properties and it lasted 4 years with a trial and then an appeal, (yes he was a narcissist!) Kristen is smart, witty, incredibly sharp, & paid amazing attention to details. She has an awesome memory and on days knew more about my case then I did. I got into some trouble with theft in the workplace. I had gotten a recommendation from a good friend.
So when I went to consultation with him, we was very insightful and straightforward with the laws and process. As I have never done anything like this.
We went to court and worked out with a probation and resititution.
It was nice to be charged a reasonable rate and have a lawyer you can trust with your life!!! Would definitely come to him with any legal problems in the future. Very Trustworthy!!

Tim is an excellent lawyer. He is very knowledgeable and was able to represent me very well during an appeal of my divorce case. Tim was able to work collaboratively with my primary lawyers to get up to speed on my case to save me time and money during the appeal process. Tim's integrity is beyond approach and he helped walk me through each step of the appeals process and what to expect during each step as well as the likely outcome. I appreciate that he didn't make any guarantees and helped explain things to me so that I could make informed decisions.
Although Tim wasn't my primary lawyer for my divorce case, he did such a great job during the appeals process that I can confidently recommend him to handle all aspects of your divorce.

Tim is an outstanding lawyer. He worked very hard on my case. He was very knowledgeable in all areas of my case. Tim is a compassionate lawyer, who was understanding, caring, and took my case very seriously working very hard on it. I was coming out of a very bad domestic abuse marrriage where I thought I could lose everything. Which would mean losing all the stability that my children had, while going through trauma themselves. I had a head injury, and Tim was so patient, and understanding . He did a great job letting me know what he needed from me. And if I didn’t respond. He would always be persistent, but in a way that was very much appreciated. He did an exceptional job in court each time on my case, and we won. I could not have asked for a better lawyer. My case was a little different being that myself and my soon to be X had most items in our settlement already negotiated
(we were planning on filing ourselves). Mr Guzik made sure that the spirit of this agreement was protected. If I had not had him represent me I would have left myself open to future problems beyond what I have agreed to today. Mr. Guzik's staff is very personable and professional and Brian (sorry Brian I did not catch your last name - my apologies) was sure to make sure any questions or contact that I needed with Mr. Guzik was handled appropriately and in a very timely fashion. Kerry Anne had a clear and definite plan during a brief consult two months ago. You can hear on the phone that has a logical train of thought and uses clear English and projects her voice well.
This involved family court OFP. I think she would work very fast and determined with respect to her work and practice in family law.
Although, she was hesitant when I mentioned include extra assistance in the form of a private investigator (Behavioral Intelligence Agent) she did concede that she would be open to consulting at her hourly rate as an intermediary advisor outside of court.
*Please shop wisely and use lawyers who are willing to work with a full team of experts.

When I met with Linda the first time she led me to believe she was representing my divorce.Yet she put me with a lawyer that was not as experienced as Linda.Then this lawyer had to leave because of a family death so than I started with another attorney .I had to start from the beginning.It felt like a bait and switch .Very disappointed

getting a divorce, I asked another non legal professional for a a divorce attorney recommendations and he had very good things to David, so I hired him on the spot. He kept my cost down, was straight to point, returned my phones call in timely manner. explained all my options. He was very transparent with me. i was really impressed with how well he worked with opposing council. Plus, his retainer was alot less than what my ex wife had to pay, and I got better results. I never felt like David cared about billing hours just to get paid. he is not that type of lawyer. A+ i have not complaints. My divorce took 6 months start to finish, David kept us out of the court room, and we got resolution.

Due to family issues I have unfortunately needed to contact and work with different attorneys over the years. I reached out to Micaela for a child custody matter. A minor child, who was a relative, was being abused and I needed legal advice and potentially an attorney. I am very happy I reached out to Micaela. In my first face to face meeting with Micaela I could tell something was different. She didn't just listen for key words or phrases. Micaela asked questions that demonstrated she was genuinely concerned. After the initial consultation I knew I wanted to hire her.
During the family court process, Micaela was honest about what to expect and what actions were needed. Many times I would express frustrations with government officials, and sometimes the system. Micaela was always able to help me put thing into perspective.
Working with Micaela I felt like I had a genuine advocate. She wasn't just an attorney I hired to help get a family member out of danger, she felt like a genuine partner. She always kept me informed about each step along the way. Micaela and her team were also very prepared when anything needed to be filed. Before any court appearances or filings, Micaela explained what motion was going to be filed and why. When I would ask questions about the judge, or the proceedings, or any other legal matter, Micaela was ready with an answer, or she would always get back to me in a timely manner. I appreciated her humility and honesty.
The qualities I appreciated most about Micaela were -
1 - her honesty - she was upfront about expectations
2 - her humility - she was not afraid to acknowledge her own limitations
3 - her preparation - she always had a plan B (and sometimes C) and she always explained my options. Knowing she was prepared gave me confidence in court.
4 - communication - her office was quick to respond and open
5 - genuine - I felt like she genuinely cared about my case.
6 - tenacity - I felt good knowing I have a "bulldog" on my side. I felt comfortable hearing Micaela be my (and the minor child's) advocate. I felt as if she was fighting hard for the child's safety.
I would hire Micaela again in a heartbeat. Hopefully I won't be in need of her services ever again. If I am ever in need of an attorney for child custody, Micaela will just be the first person I contact, she will be the only person I contact.
I'm very thankful that Micaela was available when I needed her services.

I first met attorney Jennifer Thompson when she was working out of the Meeker County Attorneys office as a prosecutor. She was assigned to a (TPR) Termination of Parental Rights case I was involved in. I had previously been married to the mother of the child in the case, and the biological father in that case was the mother's first husband. The child (was not) my biological child. I independently petitioned the Court, and was allowed into the case as a Joiner in what the Court ultimately deemed was in the best interest of the child. Jennifer, representing Meeker County did not oppose my petition. During the process I became a foster parent to the child. That case was successfully prosecuted by Jennifer which concluded with both biological parents rights being terminated and positioned me to successfully, swiftly, and seamlessly navigate through the adoption process for (my daughter).
A short time later, Jennifer started her own private practice. Once I became aware of that I immediately hired her to file a private (TPR) Termination of Parental rights case involving my biological child with the same mother. Again, Jennifer's skills and abilities were on display and resulted in a successful conclusion at the District Court, and the mothers rights were terminated. That case has now moved to the Appellate Court, and I just received Jennifer's responsive brief to the Appeal.
In short, her attention to detail, technical skills, and remarkable understanding of the (TPR) process, statutes, and supportive case law are outstanding. Her ability to articulate and translate them into a firm foundational argument are impressive. I have complete confidence in Jennifer, and that she will prevail at the Appellate level as well.
