Mike took my pre-existing case when my previous lawyer had a schedule conflict. Right out the gate, Mike made things extremely clear. I have spent two years fearful and worried about my custody case. In just a few days, Mike laid out the VA Code for custody, clearly explaining how things would go and what the rules are. This brought me such relief, as no one had ever done that. He listened to my fears, reassured me with the law, and worked quickly to get up to speed on my case with just about 2 weeks time to work. He was VERY good in the courtroom, his questioning of my ex husband helped show the court his true colors, and ultimately, he helped me protect my children from added time with their unstable and unreliable parent. Mike is an excellent and clear communicator, respectful and kind, has empathy, but gets the job done and knows how to deal with lying narcissists.

I hired Mr. Mitchell to assist with the very sad but necessary eviction of a family member from a townhouse. Mr. Mitchell was always prompt, courteous and professional in all our communication, which was made more challenging due to me living out of state. He informed me thoroughly of my legal rights and responsibilities and of legal actions to be taken in various circumstances. He coached me well in how to communicate with the family member tenant in order to comply with the law and get the best outcome. He took care of serving the tenant the written notice. And because of this, we a had the best outcome considering the very difficult and unfortunate circumstances. Should I need a lawyer in VA Beach again, I will definitely reach out to him.

Frugal Legal Services should be the staple for how all parents are represented in custody cases. Ms. Burroughs worked hard and diligently on my case and set realistic expectations. My case had a ton of unrelated issues to custody and Ms. Burroughs was completely understanding and worked through our nearly 9 month case. Ms. Burroughs is a magical and enlightening person who gets results. I went from having no contact with my children to now everything is 50/50 and I get to see my sons every other week and have the assurance that no one should be able to change that. The only shame here is that I can only give Ms. Burroughs and Frugal Legal Services 5 stars because it doesn’t let you show off the absolute brilliance of the firm or Ms. Burroughs. Ms. Burroughs and Frugal Legal Services are the prime and top option of any family matters should anyone require those services. Vicki and Barb were amazing throughout my divorce. Vicki will not waste your time/money with pointless meetings or calls, but she will show up for court prepared and organized. She made my spouse's attorney look incompetent and unprepared when she walked in with a binder for testimony with color-coded tabs for each section that we covered. Vicki was able to find a case law that got my foot in the door in a court system that otherwise would have refused to hear my case and continued to let my financially dominant ex continue to exert power and control through financial manipulation. But mainly, Vicki and Barb truly care about you on a human level and will treat your case with care and compassion. The family you created being legal broke apart is NEVER an easy thing but I am sure that having Vicki and Barb's support made it so much better than it otherwise would have been. Thank you!

I cannot express how extremely happy I was to have Vicki Francios as my lawyer during a very long 2+ year custody and child support battle. I am a lawyer, though not a divorce lawyer.
When my daughter was a the start of her divorce proceeding, she asked if I knew any lawyer in the field. I spoke with a former colleague, a family lawyer who was about to retire, and she whole-heartedly recommended " a great younger lawyer" she had worked with -- Hayden.
My daughter interviewed and hired him. She was thrilled with him, commenting often on his expertise and, as important, his empathy. He took the time to listen and understand her concerns and problems.
Though she was Hayden's client, several times during her proceeding she asked Hayden to talk with me so I could provide my views to her. He was great from this fellow lawyer's perspective. His explanations were clear, very helpful and concise. (There are few things I hate more than a rambling lawyer who runs up the cost meter).

...My research post sudden-need for divorce representation led to a consult w/well-regarded by peers, well-reviewed Ms. Jennifer Fox in Richmond, VA. Charisma and intellectual gravitas was my immediate impression. I made my "case"/communicated the financial groundwork from my dozen documents in hand. Ms. Fox was patient, then informative, relating the legal parameters for seperation leading to divorce, "amicable" or otherwise. Consumately professional, she intimated that I may be better served by Ms. Stephanie A. Montgomery, an attorney with a powerful skillset in divorce law, combined with passion and compassion regarding the protection and care of her clients. Ms. Fox had worked alongside Ms. Montgomery, and explained her advocacy also due to my divorce occuring geographically being in her jurisdiction, in case "amicable" went sideways, and local court apearences became neccesary. (meaning billable costs of travel-time for Ms. Fox to Williamsburg should be considered a factor) Ms. Fox "suggested" I speak less..let Ms. Montgomery's own professional intellectual agility do me the most service. ( This turned out to be great advice personally and professionally) Second consult appointment happened in few days.
...Thankfully, the 5 minute drive to Ms. Montgomery's location was a relief, and her office desk staff and paralegal were warm and cordial, in minutes, Ms. Montgomery escoted me to her adjacent office. I experienced a wave of relief, that "you're right were you're supposed to be" in that moment, her prescence/vibe, vocal tone and impression on point...effortlessly. I comfortably listened as the facts and "game-board" were confirmed. My then wife had retained counsel some months ago, and had produced a financial spreadsheet and preliminary legal agreement Stephanie could analyze for their intent and stategy.
There were several terms/demands not even legally appropriate involving shared married expenses, even in the face of opposing party's superior income and net worth. Ms.Montgomery then began the process to "qualify" my wants/needs/intent. Within minutes she had formed a viable counter-proposal to return to opposing council and client. I left relieved and finally in posiitive spirits.
My situation required a few office visits for signatures on dox, I was efficiently updated by Keidra A. Frazier, Ms. Montgomery's paralegal. It was always so pleasant to visit, to see the staff and get the ear of Stephanie on occasion, asking advice on this or that (home for sale deed was in wife's name)...the trust she inpires is priceless itself. Tonya Gibbs Penn is the exception, not the rule. Not only did she have tremendous compassion with our case, but she also proved to be a brilliant attorney who demonstrates a true interest in her clients and their cases.
We live in Nashville and wanted someone to represent us who would really care about our case. Trust was an important factor because our case was in Virginia and we’re in Tennessee, about ten hours from court.
Ms. Penn not only made sure that we understood the specifics of our current case, but she also explained what we would need to expect going forward. She never ignored any communication or kept us guessing. She was forthright and highly responsive.

I was cited with reckless driving for a minor accident in a rest stop on I-81 in Smyth Co. and needed local expertise, as I have never before had to appear in court and live 6 hours away in Northern Virginia. Jeff Coale handled my case and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I was charged with reckless driving which carries a heavy sentence if convicted. I needed an attorney to represent me. David worked with me in a collaborative procedure against a team (ex+attorney) who did not play by the rules and in fact were threatening and manipulative and didn't keep to their agreements. After the dust cleared, I did end up getting stuck with support payments, but there was at least an endpoint. David did acknowledge after the fact, when he began to hear more reports about my ex's lawyer, that if he'd been more aware of his reputation as not working in the spirit of Collaborative Procedure, he never would have advised me to go in that direction. The only problem with our arrangement was that David's office is not in the same city. Since I'd never been divorced before, it didn't occur to me that I'd have to pay for the drive to and from the meetings (2 hours billing for each meeting), but that was just my mistake. Overall, David is a good guy and represented me faithfully and with friendship. Divorce is divorce, nobody wins, life goes on.

We hired Mr. Bice to represent us in a difficult custody hearing of our granddaughter. He was very honest in telling us the situation may not go in our favor due to us being grandparents. However, during the process, Mr Bice not only bought out circumstances in our favor but fought for us all the way. He encouraged us to do everything the court requested and he even stayed in contact with DSS and CASA representatives. He attended all meetings with us as our attorney, kept us up-to-date with any changes to the case, and returned phone calls in a prompt manner. The bottom line is that Mr. Bice did get us physical and legal custody of our granddaughter. We cannot begin to thank him for his excellent service during our time of upheaval. His court room demeanor was outstanding and the judge listened to what he presented. Even though there were a few hiccups in the beginning with how some individuals viewed us as the grandparents, Mr. Bice was able to put all their minds to rest and know our granddaughter would be taken care of and loved forever. We would hire Mr. Bice again and I'm sure we will be needing his services in the future. Thank goodness there are lawyers like Mr. Bice that you can count on in difficult situations.
