I have using services of Aruna Venkidu since 2011 for all my immigration petitions. The success rate has been 100%, which includes winning a appeal and motion to reopen. As we are a startup, it takes a lot more attorney effort and writing to prove our case to USCIS. Aruna has guided us through each step in details for a success.

I have been working with Aruna Venkidu from a long time. She is a good lawyer who works diligently, follows up regularly and keeps me informed about all vital information. She explains every step of the process thoroughly and ensures that we are through with the requirement hassle free. She is always available to advise extra than committed in scope. I spoke to her over the phone. Before our consultation, her law firm send me a questionnaire to fill out with information and details about me and my case, I filled it out and got confirmation that it was received. I got on the call with her and the first things she asked me where the same questions as on the questionnaire. We spend 10 of the 30 minutes going over information she could have (and should have? Why else would they ask me to fill one out?) simply read about in the questionnaire I had filled out. She obviously didn't care to take a look or prepare before the call. During the consultation she was incredibly rude and dismissive. I asked her questions, she answered, but with a very belittling and negative tone. She focused on and only explained why I didn't have a chance in applying and how the things I was missing would be impossible for me to get in time. I realize that maybe my case wasn't good but she instead should have helped me by telling me what I would need to do to have a better chance and how I could achieve it. She made me feel like I was wasting her time with every question I asked and like I was an idiot for even trying to get my case settled. She completely destroyed my hopes about this case and left me feeling as if there was no point in me trying and no way for me to win, when I later found out that my chances are actually pretty good, judging by the connections I have and the future work that is about to be released (which she never even cared to ask about). I was very unhappy with her consultation, please speak to any other lawyer than her and save yourself from spending 50$ on frustration and depression after you speak with her.

We wasted many years with this lawyer. She never answered our calls or emails. She or her assistant called only about money or payments! All work we done by ourselves. She didn't know anything about immigration law. She cannot answer to our questions, she didn't prepare our documents. It was horrible years with this "lawyer". She cares only about money. It was looks like she is some sort of scammer or fraudster who took your money and forget about your existence. She also fabricated cases and proposed to fabricate cases for interview with USCIS. She used fraud practice and offer services that we don't need. Never ever pick this horrible attorney.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the expertise of Irina Lemberg, a brilliant lawyer, and her dedicated and supportive team. Despite being told by other lawyers in Los Angeles for the entirety of the 7 years I lived there that my case had no chance of success, Irina was the only one who believed in our chances and worked tirelessly to prove it. Her professionalism and unwavering support were truly impressive. What struck me the most was that unlike the common perception of lawyers who are solely focused on collecting fees without providing real help, Irina was different. Even though our agreement required payment to be made 10 days prior to the hearing, I forgot about it and no one from her team reminded me. It was only after the hearing was over that I remembered and paid. I am immensely grateful for the level of trust and understanding displayed by Irina and her team. I cannot recommend Lemberg Law highly enough, as they were recommended to me by a friend. If you're in need of legal assistance, I urge you to consider this exceptional professional team

SADLY SHE ISNT GOING TO RETURN IT, OUR CASE IS STILL GOING AND THIS ONE FALSY STATED ON HER PAPER THAT ALL THE WORK WAS EARNED WHEN THAT IS ALSO NOT TRUE. I HAD TO GET ANOTHER ATTORNEY TO CONTINUE WITH MY HUSBANDS CASE WICH HE CAN BE CALLED ANY DAY/MOMENT. WE HAVE TO UPDATE AND PREPARE FOR MY HUSBANDS INTERVIEW WHILE THIS ONE DOESNT DO ANYTHING AND KEEPS THE MONEY SHE DIDNT EARN AND DECIDES TO KEEP IT, SADLY THEY CAN PULL ANY MOVE ON YOU AND TERMINATE YOUR CASE WHEN THEY KNOW YOU CANT DO ANYTHING IN RETURN. 10k TAKES TO SUE THEM. Early last year I brought over my very beautiful Argentine girlfriend for an extended stay here in the States on her tourist visa. Then I did something crazy......I married her! :) :) We hired Jaffe law firm and worked almost exclusively with Kraig in getting my new wife legal status here. I am a local business man here in Santa Barbara and in the past years I have used other law firms in town for different reasons and I have to say that this was the most pleasant experience with a lawyer ever! Courteous, timely, good and prompt communication, knowledgeable, thorough, ......I think you get the idea, Money well worth spent!!! For our personal circumstances, every step of the governmental process went off without a single glitch. We are very very happy with our decision to hire them! My wife now has a green card, SS#, CA drivers license, and a job working for a local corporation using her degree from Buenos Aires!! Kraig, we thank you so much!

My wife and I came over from the UK this year and everyone back home and here in the States said that acquiring a work visa and residency was a mine field. Then we had the good fortune to meet Arno. Diligent and professional, Arno is one of the true Gentleman attorneys who we now call a good friend.

We hired Ms. Kleven and paid her thousands of dollars to process our immigration matter. She based the amount she charged us before she performed any work on what she estimated she may need to perform. After our application was approved, she did not perform a substantial amount of the work she told us she may need to perform. Despite this and our request for a partial refund, she refuses to refund the money for services she admits that she did not perform.

The short: Vera Weisz is smart, experienced, knowledgeable, responsive and compassionate. I highly recommend her. The long: Someone referred Vera Weisz to me during the 14th year of my immigration journey. After spending tens of thousands of dollars on attorneys and 3 separate, unsuccessful applications for legal status, I found myself in immigration court. The referrer said that if Vera accepted my case, I could rest assured that I would not get deported. Well, they were right because this is year 18 of the journey and I finally see a light at the end of the dark tunnel (and it's not an oncoming train but an approval from USCIS). Vera Weisz is extremely experienced. She proposed several paths that I was eligible for, that none of the previous attorneys suggested. It has not been smooth sailing but Vera has been patient - she gets right to work to put the case back on track. My case did not have much evidence to work with but Vera proposed very smart solutions that only an experienced and knowledgeable attorney could. When we go to court, I feel protected. She has a calm and cool demeanor about her, but her presence is felt and she asserts herself when needed. The opposition attorney once suggested that I wait my case out of the US. She shut him up quickly (with facts) like his suggestion was crazy. Now, how do you not want an attorney like that! She is very thorough and we have never missed a deadline. She clearly communicates what is expected of me and guides me through all the details. I have found Vera to be compassionate and she has had empathy for my situation from day 1. I have made mistakes in the past that even I still judge myself for, but Vera listened to me and did not tell me what I shoulda, woulda, coulda. No judgement from her. She is very professional but also has a sense of humor that doubles as words of wisdom. She has said a thing or two to me that seemed funny in the moment but turned out to be food for deep thought later on. At the time that I retained Vera, she was more expensive than most and I struggled to make the payments. She was flexible and provided a payment plan. Her office is located right in the heart of downtown LA. Her front office staff is respectful, responsive and communicative. My point is...it costs money to run an efficient office so I respect her fees. For the value that I have received and continue to receive from Vera, I am very fortunate that she accepted my case.

After spending tens of thousands of Dollars with a lot of cowboy lawyers (12 years in total), I luckily was introduced to Vera. For me, Vera is a real LIFE SAVER. In a matter of 8 months, Vera made all necessary requests to the INS in reference to our case and we were finally invited to an interview for our green card. Once again, we were shielded by her professional approach and the interview went ease and with positive outcome. Sooner after that we received all our papers and next year we will become American citizens. Do not let headless commentaries about who was wearing what divert your attention to what really matters. Vera is precise, professional, knowledgeable, with great experience – 3 decades of practice – and will not take your case if she feels that she won’t bring you benefit. Actually, if Vera cannot get a solution for your case, probably, no one else will. Go ahead and make an appointment. This will help you understand your situation in this country.

Mrs. Vera Weisz was representing a friend of mine. In support I accompanied him to the hearing. Upon meeting Mrs. Weisz for the first time outside of the courtroom she immediately commented on my choice of clothing. Her tone of voice was loud and patronizing! I was in shock and in disbelief by her bad manners. I was wearing a knee length black skirt and a white blouse with a scarf. There was absolutely nothing inappropriate about my attire. I am business woman and a nurse. I know very well what is professional and what is not. Although she was representing my friend it was embarrassing to everyone. She FAILED to take in to account she was wearing an old shaggy sweater and she looked like she just got out of bed. To make matters worse she was 1 hour late. Even the judge inquired as to her whereabouts. I am submitting this merely to help someone else avoid misrepresentation.

He barely skimmed through the documents I asked him to review, I later found out that there were unsigned documents and he didn't even notice them. At the end, it turned out that half of the information he gave was wrong )- according to the embassy (Basically sold me hot air) Also, he missed the deadlines and was unavailable most of the times. We hired him as our attorney for immigration visa for spouses. It almost took 2 years to get my interview letter. It was a long wait and I was separated from my husband. Before interview appointment I asked several questions related to the interview such as what kind of questions the officers normally ask? they said it all depends on the officer, anyways they didn't inform me well about anything for interview time they just said everything is alright. During the interview I got so anxious because I was not ready and didn't expect all that questions and besides my sponsor also didn't meet the requirements they asked new sponsor and they put my case under admin processing now 8 month is passed and no body answers me about my case. The embassy says your case is still pending but they do not say why? Our attorney (Eric Avazian) is not following up my case and not responding to my emails properly. I am separated from my husband for such a long time (almost 3 years now) and this situation is just devastating both of us. I am so sad why we chose this lawyer and we put our trust in him and now we have to live in limbo and dont know what will happen to us . I think this lawyer is just concentrating on cases which has more money for him and dont care about people and their lives and how he play with them. I dont recommend this lawyer at all. Do not trust him.

I hired this lawyer a few years ago but I did not put in a review then because I thought I was the one who was at fault on what happened to my immigration case. I prefer not to tell you the whole story but rather would like to let the people especially those who are looking for immigration lawyer to be aware of how this law office works. Atty. David Sturman is ok but since he is the only lawyer in his firm he is constantly unindated with questions from his staff. When I came to see him I paid $100.00 for a supposedly 1 hr consultation. It turned out I was short changed coz his staff will come and interrupt our session with all sorts of questions. His phone rang off the hook too and he picked it up and answer. Altho' he will apologize for the phone interruptions. His paralegal, Laurel is so unprofessional especially in emails and when u talk to her on the phone. There was once an instance where I was the one who gave her a form I asked from USCIS and she didn't even know the form to think that this form was not new. She never returned my phone calls and always late in replying to emails. I would definitely NOT recommend this law office to my family or friends as I don't want to jeopardize my relationship with them. Definitely not worth hiring. BEWARE!

Please stay away from him. I hired him for my political asylum case. He took thousands of dollars from me but never prepared for my case. His assistant, a law student, did all of my paperwork. His assistant knew more about my case than Ally Bolour !! In fact the day before my immigration interview he told me, my case was so confusing even he didn't understand it. Imagine my shock and horror on his statement when apparently he spent weeks preparing for my case and now we were one day away from my USCIS asylum interview!! He did not prep me even a single time for my interview with the USCIS asylum officer despite my repeated requests. When I asked him about the format of interview and pattern of questions asked during interview (in his supposedly years of experience in such cases) he told me he had no idea and the immigration officer could ask me anything. Due to lack of prep I got confused during my interview, my case was denied and I was placed in removal proceedings. By grace of GOD I did not proceed with Ally Bolour and found an amazing attorney who did everything Ally didn't do. My second attorney helped me get political asylum from one of the most difficult immigration judge in my state. Ally Bolour made me pay $2400 to a supposed expert of my home country conditions to get country situation report (despite knowing I was short on funds). My subsequent lawyer told me there was absolutely NO need for such a report in my case. Please please please stay away from him for political asylum cases. He will take your money and not prepare for your case. Please don't jeopardize your chance of finding safety in this country!!

Ally Bolour Law Offices was incredibly helpful to me. Scott Emerick advised and counseled me through many hurdles of my immigration. I would highly recommend them to anyone dealing with immigration to the U.S. Despite the immigration bans, and the increasing difficulties to gain residency here, Scott and the associates at Ally Bolour Law Offices were able to help approve my green card. I am very happy I chose them for this process. They treated me with much understanding and care, during a time that I felt hopeless they were the people who gave me peace of mind that everything would go well. Scott also came with me to my interview, which made it a lot less stressful. I will certainly come back to Ally Bolour for any future immigration needs.

I asked my complicated pending green card case and Mr. Bolour quoted me $20k (I'm not kidding)for his service and said "if you leave USA to visit my country while the case is pending, you will be banned for 10 years or probably never able to enter US". I hired a reputable sincere lawyer instead, my lawyer said I would be able to re-enter US while waiting for my complicated pending GC case, i believed her and visited my country a few times, I had no problem coming back at the port. And I became a permanent resident because of her.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
