My car was involved in an automobile accident and I was unable to make any headway with the insurance companies involved. A colleague of mine referred me to Janice for advice and she ended up taking on my case. Janice was diligent in her research, along with being responsive, efficient and informative. She cut through a lot of the red-tape when dealing with the insurance companies. Even though this was a small case with a number of twists and time leading to settlement, she took my case seriously and fought for me every step of the way. I always felt that I had the best possible representation and would definitely have gotten a smaller (if any) settlement without her assistance. I rarely post reviews but Janice is a top-notch attorney and I cannot recommend her more highly.

Dennis Neil Jones, of Meyers, Widders, Gibson, Jones & Feingold, represented me in a medical insurance coverage dispute involving a large sum of money. Before Dennis's representation, the insurance company would not give me the time of day. It would not discuss the matter with me and had no interest in resolving it. Thanks to Dennis, the insurance company was forced to listen and to reconsider. Dennis was an expert in the substantive law and a brilliant tactician. He was also very considerate of what I was going through and generous with his time. Thanks to Dennis, we won, accomplishing everything we set out to do.

Words can never adequately convey how grateful I am that I found Dennis Jones. A neighbor filed a lawsuit. When I informed my insurance company that I was being sued, it dropped me. Mr. Jones reviewed the insurance policy and believed the carrier owed me a defense. He wrote them a letter to that effect. The next communication from the insurance company is in the form of a lawsuit! Mr. Jones defended me against the insurance company, and they went from suing to settling. I would give him more than five stars if possible. He truly cares about his clients and goes above and beyond to help.

Catherine Naltsas is an exceptional attorney! Her recent work on a natural CPG case was truly impressive. She secured an early win by skillfully challenging a potential class action lawsuit, saving significant defense costs. Catherine's thorough approach, including pre-suit testing and expert analysis, effectively proved the product's safety. Her aggressive litigation strategy and deep knowledge of civil procedure led to a voluntary dismissal by the plaintiffs. Catherine's dedication, expertise, and strategic thinking make her an invaluable asset to any client facing complex legal challenges. I highly recommend her for her outstanding legal acumen and ability to achieve favorable outcomes.

Prior to seeking Mr. Kuzmich advice on multiple business, which are then personal in my mind. I was losing mind along with respect for most attorneys. I realize passing the bar is very difficult? I also realize the mayor of LA failed the bar four times! Said the hell with it? I will try to sort out LA!!! Jag-off! Apologize back to Micheal... I was shocked at this mans knowledge. But most important his deminor and character. He simply shot straight and cared. You simply do not see adults either dolts or with Micheals level of knowledge really concerned or simply doing the job they are not qualified or more than qualified to preform... I will continue to consult with Michael Kuzmich as needed for legal advice outside the scope of realistate. I'm sure he will lead me in the right direction. Thanks

Hello. I am a juror that just finished a trial Mr Mayr was defense attorney to. I wanted to leave feedback but couldn't wait too long after trial. Based on the trial at hand, I, as well as a few other jurors, were impressed by Mr. Mayrs work. It was evident that he is a newer attorney but he took his time and made sure to think about what he was saying before it left his mouth. The evidence was relevant and broken down in a manner that clarified the situation. He did a good job at comparing details from both sides in order to illuminate inconsistencies in evidence presented. Very nice job! The only thing we snickered at (just being honest) is the testimony by the Dr. He wasn't prepared and though a lot if the things he was being asked by the prosecuting side were, in my eyes, irrelevant, it was a tad damaging to the opinions of my cohorts. He was ill prepared. But overall nice job. After discussing the case, several of us agreed we would hire Mr Mayr if we ever needed an attorney. Be advised, my review is based solely on observations from a jurors perspective (never dealt with him personally so can't comment/rate on some of the characteristics listed above)

I have been through an insurance nightmare with my house that was destroyed in a fire years ago and two horrible lawyers who mishandled my bad Faith Insurance case that was significant. One has since been suspended. Their actions buried the lawsuit when my insurance company actually flew people in prepared to offer a significant settlement at mediation. I called Dale on Christmas Eve and he actually picked up the call and spent over a half an hour talking to me. After hearing very specific facts, he was the only one patient and bright enough to see that there is a possibility of still recovering money from my insurance company to enable me to rebuild my house after years of it sitting burned out. I had contacted over a hundred lawyers, bar associations, referral services, etc. trying to get help and Dale is the first one who gave me hope and had the insight and experience to see past what other lawyers couldn't. I look forward to working with him as soon as he returns from his Christmas Vacation and ending this nightmare I have been through.

I cannot express the immense gratitude I have for my interaction with Mr. Smith. I found myself in a very challenging and unique situation with a renter's insurance claim. I vetted many attorneys before allowing my intuition to guide me to Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith demonstrated his attention to detail in the consultation process. He carefully read over the documents and gave me an informed assessment of my case. Although, Mr. Smith could not guarantee my desired outcome (as no attorney can), I decided to move forward with the process and hired him. Mr. Smith's WEALTH of knowledge allowed him to find errors in the way my claim was denied. His letter to my insurance company caused them change their initial denial of my claim and in turn they honored my claim. In addition to his knowledge, I can also speak to his honesty and transparency. He refunded a portion of my retainer as he did not use all of the time he anticipated. I am forever grateful to Mr. Smith.

We came to Scott with a multinational financial litigation defense matter. Scott's team was successful. All the other lawyers we interviewed, stated we should settle the matter for in excess of $25,000,000. In the end, the matter was resolved by Scott for less than $5,000,000. Our public stockholders were amazed, as was I. We will continue to use Scott and his team as our trusted lawyers, in this crazy world of litigation.

2 people who politely introduced themselves as the "New owners" of the building in which we lived later served everyone in our apartment with Unlawful Detainers & Eviction Notices although we had a lease with owner who too lived in the same building as all of us. With ownership of building being disputed in court, still being threatened with Unlawful detainers and eviction, Scott advised us to continue to pay our rent in a timely manner to the "new owners". Although another tenant & I had the exact same case, we chose Scott, our neighbor did not. The "new owners" suddenly and without any forewarning changed their lawyer and ask us to pay all the back rent in one lump sum. No explanation even though past checks would still be honored. Scott advised us to comply, our neighbor's attorney advised otherwise. The end result, we were finally recognized as tenants whereas our neighbor still faced many legal challenges to come. (big mistake on his part) Now that almost a year of harassing behavior on the part of the "new owners", was finally put to rest, the terms of the lease stated that the losing party would pay for the legal fees. Our case was heard before a judge and at first, we lost. With facts in hand, Scott knew it wasn't right so we appealed and had the initial judgment overturned in our favor. From this past experience, lessons learned are that not all attorneys behave the same. Initially, some are like cheer leaders who are full of energy and give clients high expectations. As time goes by, many of those same lawyers either become "too busy" or lose touch with their clients. Scott is not one of them. He is what you would call a truly "down to earth" type of person who is easy to talk with and to his clients, always readily available. Legal representation and advice is always an investment and finding a competent, hard working attorney to work on your behalf is not easy in a sea of "lawyers"... Here's an insider's tip: Go see Scott first. Unlike the others, even the first consultation is free...

I called Mr. Losh regarding an issue I was fearful would quickly get out-of-hand. Mr. Losh asked questions other attorneys didn't, then requested a little time to think about the issue. I was a little fearful, but Mr. Losh promised to get back to me with a possible solution, quickly. Which is exactly what he did. Mr. Losh's solution was both practical and didn't require a huge amount of spiraling legal fees. I was shocked. Then thankful. I appreciated Mr. Losh's skill, quick response, cost-effective solution, and old school manners. In that order. I would recommend Mr. Losh's services, especially regarding mortgage issues.

Our firm was involved in a case between taxpayers whereby we were accused of purposely not providing documents relevant to the case during discovery (which of course was not true). Our attorney provided by our professional liability insurance carrier was not protecting our legal rights or providing relevant case law to defend us at our sanction hearings. We thus engaged Shane to represent us. He provided excellent representation and we feel minimized what could have been a very costly ordeal, not to mention peace of mind during a trying time.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
