Over a period of 4 years we worked through a case with Mr. Dorfman that in the end gave us a very just and favorable outcome. Lost a deck due to a huge snowstorm and the snow sliding off of our roof and causing the deck to fall to the ground. Insurance company said the weight of the snow causing the deck to collapse was not covered. I said the collapse was due to impact force - like a tree falling on the deck - but they denied the claim. Then the insurance company said because the deck was wood it was not covered, then the deck was not even a structure so it was not covered. And on and on.
I was referred to Neil Dorfman from a friend who knew someone else that worked with Neil on another claim.
M. Dorfman took over dealing with the insurance company and the communications went on for a year with the insurance company eventually suing ME for a Summary Judgement. Mr. Dorfman counter-sued the insurance company and made it clear they couldn't really sue me as their own client and after a year of this going back and forth the insurance company finally settled for a NEW deck (costing $100,000) and paid all attorneys fees in the process.
During the process, Mr. Dorfman brought in engineering specialists to analyze the deck and the situation, brought in a real estate consultant to determine damages for loss of use of the deck, and brought in contractors to determine costs of fixing and replacing the deck. I believe Mr. Dorfman was very thorough, knowledgeable, and competent. I would use him again.

During my initial consultation Mr. Fahrney took the time to get familiar with the facts of my case. What impressed me was when he told me he would need to get back to me after doing some research based on all the facts presented. How often will you find an attorney willing to walk away from a retainer? He got back to me promptly. As soon as he was retained Mr. Fahrney worked diligently on my case. I have a rather complex disability case. So I have been working in my profession for about seven years and, for the last year, I have had to miss about 8 months of work for some inexplicable reason. After being told I was insane by doctors,and declining neurologically for a year, I realized something was terribly wrong. Finally I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my cervical spine, and scoliosis with 2 curves in it. As it were, it seems that my herniated disc might have been going untreated for almost a year. At my age, I am informed that I am too young to have these problems. Anyways, Mr. Shaffman took this case as a long term disability matter and he is on top of it. His initial consultation was complimentary and was an entire hour. Excellent interaction, and he was very nice. The next time I called him, we talked for nearly another hour and exchanged pleasantries, and then we sealed the deal. After I began to email him, he gave me a very long, and obviously substantive response. It looked well-crafted. As I reiterate the sentiment of a prior reviewer who stated she had never interacted with a paralegal, I am glad to report that my experience has been the same; I have interfaced with him alone. Having this much experience and having a spotless record with Cal Bar makes me even more confident this was the best decision I could have made for my family. Seriously good.

BEST ATTORNEY EVER! HE KNOWS THE LAW WELL!
After consulting with several different attorneys regarding my long-term disability / retirement case, I came across Scott Shaffman. Mr. Shaffman is not only detailed oriented, but is extremely knowledgeable in his area of practice. Several things set this attorney above others.
First, he deals one-on-one with his clients. There is no paralegal that prepares paperwork. He does it himself. One of the many benefits of this is an attorney who is extremely familiar with the case through first hand knowledge. I appreciated this. The other attorneys I consulted with before I hired Mr. Shaffman all had paralegals.
Second, he knows the law when it comes to these types of cases and is unsurpassed with his overall knowledge and how-to. It's amazing and fascinating how he operates. He always was pulling up case law and shaping my case for the best chances to be successful.
Third, his response time is amazing. Most times he answered the phone when I called. If not, he called back almost always within hours. What attorneys do this? Impressive!
Fourth, he was always on top of my case. It never sat in a corner. Regular communication and updates occurred. This was important to me and I always knew the latest happenings of my case. This made for a trustworthy relationship.

Our property was involved in a car accident caused by an employee of CalTrans. The insurance adjuster with CalTrans was a complete lunatic. It took 3 years (!) for the issue to get resolved, and that was with Phil trying his damnedest to get it done. I can't recommend Phil highly enough.

We needed the advice of an legal expert for a claim against a Government agency. We spoke to Mr Watson and he provided us on how to proceed without needing his immediate services. Words cannot express how truly grateful I am because of Mr. Scott Kalkin. Unfortunately I had multiple upper extremity surgeries in 2012 which left me disabled and unable to work. I had to utilize my long term disability policy from my employer that I paid for since 2000. I did not understand at the time that I purchased an Erisa plan which is a very complex and difficult to understand policy. My doctors were wonderful at documenting my condition and filling out mounds of paperwork that advised my long term carrier that I was clearly disabled and unable to work. Unfortunately this did not matter to my long term carrier. I was advised by my carrier in 2013 that I was no longer eligible for my much needed medical benefits due to the Erisa laws and I would be receiving a letter with an explanation on how to appeal in the mail soon. Needless to say, I felt defeated and exhausted. I did extensive research on long term disability attorneys and decided to call Mr. Scott Kalkin at Roboostoff and Kalkin. Not only was Mr. Scott Kalkin kind and understanding but he took the time to explain the complexities of having a long term policy governed by Erisa. Mr. Scott Kalkin is extremely knowledgeable and is an expert on all of the complexities of long term disability policies. I never imagined being in a situation where I needed to take such extreme measures in order to fight for my child's right to play outside our apartment complex. One day as my neighbor and I were supervising our kids, the on-site manager approached us told us that the kids could not be playing outside. She stated that our lease agreement indicated that kids were not allowed to play outside. We continued to allow our kids to play outside.
A few days later the on-site manager's husband went to my neighbor's and my apartment. He said we CANNOT continue to allow our kids to play outside. I asked him where he wanted the kids to play and his response was, "you are lucky we live right across the street from a park, so take him there." I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I decided to escalate it and give the management company a call because I knew they could not prohibit our children from playing outside. Boy was I wrong! The management company and the property owner supported the on-site manager. There were so many feelings that we were going through anger, alone, scared, the not knowing. We felt as we did and used everything in our power to try and to reach out to someone because we were crying out for help! How can managers get away with such a thing and allow them to feel like they have all the POWER in the world?
One day my neighbor received a 60 day notice to leave the apartment and we received a verbal threat that we were next. I did my research because I could not allow the managers to continue to intimidate us nor our children.
I reached out to a few attorneys and all they'd say was we "really" didn't have a case or that they can send the manager a letter. I felt as if the doors were shutting and that the manager may be right after all. When I Craig Fagan's website, I had tears in my eyes. My neighbor and I decided to give Craig a call. He is SUPER understanding, kind, family oriented and most important makes you feel like everything is going to be fine. If you talk to Craig, it is obviously because you have been discriminated and do not know what to do. All I can say is, fight for your right and stop allowing discrimination to continue. The thought of the entire process sounds scary, but TRUST me it's the right thing to do. You are not alone; Craig is with you through the ENTIRE process. I normally do not write testimonials but I had to for this because it has honestly been the best decision we could have made and I want EVERYONE to know that there is hope!

Although there had been no changes to my health, my insurance company deemed I was no longer disabled, and able to return to full-time work. They abruptly cancelled my insurance. Rhonda Harris Buckner not only successfully reinstated my benefits which allowed our family to keep our house, but she also helped me apply for a separate insurance that was also granted. Rhonda made what could have been a very stressful situation as painless as possible. Traveling to her office and sitting for long meetings would have compromised my health. I was floored when my disability insurance company called one day and said they terminated my LTD benefits. I had always cooperated and communicated with them so I had absolutely no idea this was coming. According to them, I was now fine and should return to work full time. I have had the pleasure of knowing Scott for quite a while. I met him through my mother a long time ago and have used Scott for 2 different cases I had. One of the cases he was able to dismiss of a City suit against me in NY and did not have to pay anything. The City was suing me for over 225,000. This saved my life. I appreciate him so much.
