When my teenaged son became the victim of a vicious hit-and-run attack, we were busy dealing with the medical and criminal aftermath. But we also needed help on the civil side to get some financial relief. Ben was highly recommended by a dear friend as the best in this field, and we were lucky to have him on our side.
He immediately came to visit us in person and explained the whole process. Over time, there were several unexpected twists and turns in the case involving out-of-network medical costs, the attacker's auto insurance, and our own insurance. Ben patiently explained the implications of all of this as it unfolded and made sure that we were clear on everything. He handled the day to day details so we could focus on my son's recovery, but always kept us informed. He made himself available by text, phone, and email at all hours.

I was the driver of a motor vehicle, on August 6, 2006, stopped due to traffic on southbound I-5 in Los Angeles, when struck from the rear by an uninsured vehicle driven by a person with a suspended drivers license.
The damage to my vehicle was $4,535.68, including, but not limited to replacement of the exhaust system, rear body panel, rear bumper reinforcement, rear bumper cover, rear bumper lower energy absorber and rear bumper upper energy absorber, and repair of the left quarter panel, right quarter panel, left quarter panel extension, right quarter panel extension and rear floor, and requiring repair from August 16, 2006 through September 14, 2006. The damage to the other vehicle was total.
I injured my neck and right shoulder, requiring four neck surgeries and three shoulder surgeries. The third neck surgery resulted in permanent right vocal cord paralysis requiring two vocal cord surgeries, which were unsuccessful.
My insurance carrier, since 1990, was the third largest property and casualty insurer in the United States, and my coverage was $1 million for uninsured motorist bodily injury.
My insurance carrier refused my repeated demands that they pay me my policy limit, claimed that only my first two neck surgeries were related to the accident, my three right shoulder surgeries were unrelated to the accident, my last two neck surgeries were unrelated to the accident, and since the third neck surgery was unrelated to the accident, the permanent right vocal cord paralysis and two vocal cord surgeries were unrelated to the accident. They delivered a check to me for $750,000.00, which they referred to as an advance, and through their attorney demanded arbitration.
My brother, who is in the insurance industry, referred me to Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley, because John. Carpenter was successful in trying a case against his company to a jury verdict of $483,524.21, when the policy limit was only $100,000.00, and the company paid the $483,524.21 because it had exposed its insured to personal liability.
I spoke with Paul Zuckerman over the telephone, and he arranged to have me transported to his office along with all of my files. I met Mr. Zuckerman, Mr. Carpenter, and an associate named Robert Ounjian.
Robert Ounjian, who was promoted to partner, and for good reason, arbitrated my claim at Judicate West on April 30, 2013 and May 1, 2013, and the binding arbitration award was faxed on May 20, 2013. The arbitrator awarded me the remaining $250,000.00 uninsured motorist coverage. Robert was also able to get my former insurance carrier to reimburse me costs in the amount of $14,759.30.
Robert Ounjian, who is an excellent attorney, and the entire firm, did an excellent job representing me, and they will do an excellent job representing you too. Their principle is "justice for injured people is more important than insurance company profits."

Zachary Merliss does his job with pride and really works for his clients n gives them the chance to be home with there family and loved ones during these hard times. I my self did not have any hope of getting out for a very long time maybe years, Mr. Merliss came to see me n jail and advised me that we had court in few days n he was going to push for me to go home on ancle monitor. I cried on way back to my cell thinking there's no way I'm going to go home with the charges I am facing. And when we went to court that day n I was told by the judge I was going home with gps I was inshoke right after dinner they told me roll it up. Next day I was at home playing with my grandson . Let me just say, every single person I had the opportunity to speak to and/or meet in this office is absolutely FANTASTIC.
My first interaction was with Stacy. Before I did any kind of explaining regarding my case, she was kind and honest in letting me know she couldn’t guarantee it would be picked up due to the deadline (I came to them with only weeks before my statute of limitations was up) and how busy the office was which I understood. But after I told her what happened, she reassured me if the office had too full of a plate, she would still personally help me find someone to take my case. Even though she was confident they were going to be able to help, I appreciated the additional effort on her part. Once she passed along my info to Louis, he called me back promptly and let me know they could take it.
In the same day of speaking with Stacy and Louis, I was also reached out to by Emily who I spoke to for hours. Now, while most was relevant to my case, she was also just super personable! Each time I got off the phone with someone, I literally wanted to cry from how relieved I was. In just one day, this office took away any stress I had and finally put me at ease. Later on, I was assigned a case manager, Rebecca, who communicated extremely well and checked in on me to make sure I was updated on everything surrounding my case!
After my accident, I didn’t expect to find myself having to scramble for a personal injury lawyer. But I am glad to have met each of these individuals. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about all of the help and hard work they put into my case. Also, shout out to Eben for helping me with the prep for my first scheduled deposition, even though opposing counsel rescheduled day of due to having “no Wi-Fi” :)

I consulted Craig Walkon after talking to another attorney about a medical malpractice case I potentially had. The practice I talked to wasn't able to help me but highly recommended Mr. Walkon. Mr. Walkon listened to me with patience and he really cared about what I had been through not only physically but emotionally as well. He had me send him all of my records (which were a lot) and he took the time to go through them for free. Mr. He offered me solid legal advice and I was able to settle my case outside of a courthouse. It was his legal expertise that helped get me through my situation with out going from attorney to attorney. I didn't hire him as my attorney because he gave me such great advice I didn't need an attorney, yet he still answered my phone calls and let me ask him legal questions throughout my medical nightmare. I hired Mr. Wade to expedite my divorce after being with an ill-prepared attorney for 1 1/2 years in which I didn't get past the discovery stage. I got quick results with Mr. Wade and my divorce was finalized after 4 months. His support staff quickly responded to all my emails and returned my calls. Mr. Wade is very experienced and knowledgeable and found an error in a filing by my ex-spouse's attorney and took immediate action on her behalf which saved me money and didn't prolong the divorce proceedings. He is involved in all the cases in his firm. Every Wednesday he conducts a meeting with his associate attorneys to consult and monitor their progress and provides them with his expert advice when necessary. Hopefully, I won't need Mr. Wade in the future but if I do, I would retain his services again because I was very pleased with his work and professionalism.

This company is great. A rehab facility let my dad fall almost everyday he was there. The last time the day he was to come home he fell and hit his head. I first met Maryam in 2013 while she worked diligently on a criminal case for my husband. She had truly been a Godsend to my family. Maryam went above and beyond to thoroughly represent my husband, she went as far as to obtain her notary license so that she could notarized an important document while my husband was incarcerated at MDC, LA. I could call on her and Maryam would be available. It gave me great peace of mind knowing that she was an attorney that actually cared about her clients. Maryam was honest with me and did not sugar-coat the severity of my husbands case. I felt safe and connected to her for her honesty. Tragically, my husband passed away in custody. I had not spoken to Maryam in well over a year (we ended up going with a public defender). I received a very heartfelt text from Maryam giving me her condolences and telling me how much she knew I loved my husband.
A year and half later in 2016, I hired her to represent my minor daughter for a DUI. Again, I cannot tell how much she went above and beyond to represent thoroughly for my family. She works hard, she's honest and she has a heart that truly wants to help her clients and represent them in the best possible way. Maryam took the time to sit and meet with my daughter and offered her ear and help even beyond the court room. My daughter received probation and Maryam did her homework and was able to save me thousands ($25+K) of dollars in a falsified restitution claim. I could never thank Maryam enough for all that she has done for me and my family. My daughter is now off of probation thanks for Maryam. She is on a much better path and is expecting.

I had found Maryam Sharifi through a common aquantance and I will say I was very lucky to have been able to find a way to her. I had received a DUI charge that was pending as a felony and she did everything she could to save me jail time and bring it down to a misdemeanor. She had spoken with me dad and many occasions and went out of her way to keep him informed as well and she really got to know us had a genuine concern for my well being. She found a traffic school for me and made sure I kept up with any and all court assigned classes to make sure I got out of this okay. For a very long time I had a huge worry of going to jail and having to drop out of school and all that come with that; and Maryam has helped physically as well as mentally with all of that and I couldn't thank her enough. Brad was the 6th and last lawyer I consulted with about my case. Every other lawyer I spoke to before Brad said that my case was going to be a difficult one and that they couldn't be of any help. I was in a car accident back in 2019, and the driver who hit me was uninsured. I have had 2 previous back surgeries, and this car accident is now causing me to have a 3rd. About a year and a half ago I was hit by a drunk driver and sustained some pretty serious and potentially life-altering injuries. I had a number of phone consultations with lawyers throughout the state (prioritizing competence over geographic proximity). A number of other lawyers I spoke to sounded perfectly competent, but Jon struck me as particularly thoughtful, measured, and precise in his thinking. So I ultimately chose him and am glad I did.
All I can say is that my initial impression of Jon was pretty on point. He is measured and patient in his approach to litigation, which (I think) is an absolutely crucial attribute of a personal injury lawyer, where there is the temptation to get a bit overly aggressive with the opposition and signal impatience, which then might lead to easier, quicker--but ultimately smaller settlements. Point being, Jon is cerebral, patient, and plays the long game.
Further, and maybe most importantly, his ability to formulate strong and well-researched arguments is top-notch. My case was a bit complicated, with a number of moving parts and policies. But throughout the year-or-so process, Jon went up against the legal departments of two big insurance companies, putting forward arguments that were strong enough to get both to fully capitulate (even in a case that was as anything but cut-and-dried as mine was).
There was, however, one negative point with Jon I should mention in fairness. In the little of a year long period I worked with Jon, there was a two-to-three week period where for the life of me I could not get a hold of him. I left numerous voicemails, messages with the secretary, etc, but no luck. After writing an email to him him he promptly responded and explained that he was in the midst of a court-proceeding which was pretty much all-consuming. As demanding as they are, I understood and held nothing against him. (I even debate whether I should include this in my review, but hey, full disclosure.) And after that two/three week lapse of communication he was super prompt in getting back to me and keeping in touch.
All in all, being the tough grader that I am, I'd give Jon a 9.5/10....meaning he's a mere half-point away from being a flawless and ideal attorney to have on your side. I would not only recommend, but *urge* any friend or family to hire Jon.
