Hiring Andrew Taylor as my attorney was the best decision I made when filing for divorce. My case was complicated, including numerous filings and hearings leading to a multi-day trial related to my divorce, child custody and support. He also handled my J&DR Court hearings to secure a Protective Order for my children and I. Andrew knows the law thoroughly and his experience in the courtroom meant he gave me very sound advice. After trying diligently to settle with the other side, it became clear we would have to go to trial. This meant months strategically prioritizing and timing the work on discovery, depositions, expert witnesses, coordination with the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL), minor children testifying to the judge in chambers, and supplementary legal negotiations. Andrew and his paralegal, Shannon, expertly managed all of this. They are truly good people and a delightful team: I trust them implicitly.
Prior to my divorce trial, I presented Andrew with a 20-point list of what I wanted the judge to grant me. My experience with this firm was horrendous!! I was baited during the custody consultation to feel as though I had a very strong case for full custody. However, once I provided the required retainment for representation, I simply became a statistic. Andrew consistently pushed for me to just accept opposing party offers of every other weekend, simply because it is the "standard" and had no concern of really fighting for me or my daughter's 'equal' time together. The goal of this firm is to drag clients through the system as slowly as possible, for their maximum profit!.. I was astonished to find that for my final bill, which only included the prep and appearance for my 20 min support hearing that should have only involved plugging my income numbers into a worksheet, I had accumulated the same amount of changes, nearly $7000, as I had for all of the work in the months leading up to the custody hearing. Don't make my mistake....You'll probably fair just as well, if not better, representing yourself and saving your kid's college fund.

In September I received a reckless driving ticket in Henrico, VA. Since this was my first ticket, I was obviously terrified. After asking around for a good lawyer, my friend’s dad recommended I look into Ali. I reached out and he communicated quickly and efficiently. I met him right before court where he asked me a few questions about myself. He then walked in with me while assuring me that everything would be ok. Claude is an expert, he knows what he is doing and he will get it done. He knows how to handle a case and I doubt he would take one he couldn’t win. That being said he stays busy!!! I cannot express in words how grateful we are to Claude Whitehead for his expertise and guidance through a very scary situation. We made the mistake of hiring a cookie cutter attorney for my son's reckless driving ticket. The original lawyer never questioned anyone or anything in regard to the ticket. His plan was for my son to complete 50 hours of community service, do the driving course and get character letters to present to the court. The first attorney told us to be there at 9:15 for court at 9:30 and he walked in at 9:50 without even introducing himself. He never questioned the police officer or how he obtained his speed even though I told him that there was two different speeds listed on the ticket. After my son's conviction he told us that we got what he was hoping for, my son kept his license and no jail time. However, he did get a misdemeanor (which is permanent) on his record which was the main thing we were trying to avoid. He clearly had no plan to try to challenge the ticket. We asked to appeal and he basically laughed and said we'd likely see a harsher punishment if we did. The attorney was unprepared to present any information we had sent him to the judge, was late and didn't even know who my son was. We decided the appeal was the way to go and after talking to several lawyers our search ended when I spoke to Mr. Whitehead. He was understanding and compassionate and ready to hit the ground running. He made no promises but boy did he deliver! He laid out a very detailed plan and stuck to it. He was very easy to communicate with and always responded quickly. He explained the how and the why and we always knew where we were with everything at all times. Not only did the charge get reduced to speeding, but the misdemeanor was gone and the fines significantly lowered. If you are looking for a speeding or traffic ticket save yourself a lot of time and worry, call Mr. Whitehead first. We wish we had.

I was charged with DUI. I contacted Riley & Wells and was assigned to a very intelligent and competent attorney, Joseph Dean II. Throughout the process I felt that I had an individual who cared about the process - defending his client along with abiding by the law. He researched cases that pertained to my case and worked through lab results that were suspect, all helping my NOT GUILTY decision. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Dean as an attorney in any circumstance and would be glad to have him (hopefully it won't come to that) in my defense should the necessity arise.

Mr Dean was straightforward and honest with me from the first time we spoke on the phone. He showed up to court prepared and provided a fierce defense. The judge continued my case for three weeks due to a lack of precedent (there weren't any cases similar to mine in case law). Three weeks later, Mr Dean returned to the court room on my behalf. His line of reasoning was impeccable and the judge rendered a not guilty verdict. Do not be fooled by Mr Dean's youthful appearance. He is a passionate attorney who is committed to providing a thorough defense.

The absolute WORST law firm ever my fiance & I have been waiting on a case from Nov 2022 which was transferred from Franklin and Franklin because they retired and it has been a headache/NIGHTMARE every since they had the case from 2022. The case is scheduled to go to court which now they are telling me, I may not even get a court date until 2026 hopefully, I'm still alive. I will never ever do business with this law firm ever again.. The case went from Mr. Smircina & Ashley Gay which we NEVER heard from Mr. Smircina to supposedly the supervisor of litigations to now someone else name Scott said/his paralegal Melissa. They do not reach out once a month as they state you always have to contact them to get any updates on your case. This has been an ongoing nightmare. I will be so glad when it's over I'm looking to transfer my case to another law firm if someone will pick it up 4yrs to wait to settle is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS LAW FIRM AGAIN! Every ATTORNEY/PARALEGAL WE HAVE DEALT HAS BEEN HORRIBLE NOTHING BUT PROMISES AFTER PROMISES and then you have to repeat the same thing to everyone they keep assigning you to.

Me and my boyfriend went to the chesapeake location regarding breach of contract, a yo-yo deal by a dealership and the dealership ran our credit without permission as well as set up a new deal and moved our downpayment to it. The dealer also lied and misrepresented what was actually was going on with the lender and overall negligence with this deal. They actually withheld our funds well over the time frame that they were supposed to refund us. We have it all on recording, showing this.
We paid 80 for 15 minutes (they did not have change , it is usually 75$) the lawyer was just too dismissive, he talked over us, cut us off in the midst of explaining and expected us to immediately shut up just because he started talking, there wasn’t any “excuse me for a moment “ or “may i interrupt “. He then told us we had no case and there’s nothing we can do and that we were only entitled to our down payment back from the dealer, out his own mouth he stated “even if they did breach the contract you’re only entitled to your downpayment”.
I went to another lawyer a week later and explained the situation the exact same with the same exact contract from the dealership and was told my case is an extreme case of negligence and that our consumer rights were extremely violated and we have more than enough evidence to file a large civil suit. The new lawyer even offered to take our case pro bono. Overall, We felt embarrassed as two black individuals being dismissed and not given the time of day to explain how our rights were violated. I’m also in my senior year of college studying law, i knew something was wrong and very educated on VA consumer rights, and studied prior similar cases in the hampton roads where civil suits have been filed in YO-YO deals similar to mine. We also did not use the entire 15 minutes and still the price did not change. This is not a review to condemn the business however i do hope that in the future this can be used as a learning example, us a society is already struggling, for someone to go and pay funds for a service because something is seriously off with a situation that happened to them and then to be handled in such a nonchalant and authoritarian manner was heart breaking. I literally walked out and immediately started crying when we were done because this case has completely turned our life upside down with no car. A touch of kindness and morality is all it takes for your business to become outstanding in all walks of life .
