In my profession I am encountering lawyers on a weekly basis. While I have not developed a formal system for rating lawyers, it has become readily apparent that all lawyers are not created equal.

I have personally used Attorney Dan Blake in several areas over the past several years and have referred him to numerous friends and business associates. His work for me has included estate planning, estate administration/probate, purchase and sale of real estate, and a variety of business related matters. Let me briefly highlight a couple of these engagements and my impressions of Dan as it relates to them.
I was asked to be trustee/executor of a friend’s multi-million dollar estate. He unfortunately had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had a very short time to live. He wished to leave his entire estate in trust to benefit two friends since he was not close to his living relatives - a half sister and several cousins. The estate was complicated involving six real estate properties, an extensive antique collection, numerous bank accounts and liquid investments, and an antique car collection. The trust was also complicated and included all necessary provisions for the support and care of the beneficiaries. Because time was short (less than 2 weeks), Dan provided quick turn around on drafting the will, setting up a trust, and transferring. Great care was taken so the will could not be contested.
Upon my friend’s death, Dan oversaw the settling of the estate via probate and his office administered the trust for me as trustee. Reflecting back, I was amazed at how smoothly things went, especially considering the potential for serious problems. I feel this was largely due to Dan’s personal commitment to make sure things were done right from the start.
Dan also set up an investment LLC for me. Its structure included numerous special considerations. For example equity interest in the LLC’s investments varied from one partner to another since it was based not only upon their initial capital contribution but also their degree of active participation in the investment. There were several other special requirements, which Dan was able to craft into its structure. I feel his knowledge of the area, enabled me to efficiently and economically create a custom LLC that perfectly matched my needs. On occasion I have needed to slightly modify the LLC because of alterations to our business strategy. Dan has been able to rapidly make these changes, which I again attribute to his keeping abreast of current thinking and laws in this area.
As I indicated earlier, I have personally used Dan in several other areas including my family’s personal estate planning, sale of one of my businesses, and purchase and sale of several real estate properties. In each case I have found him very knowledgeable and efficient in the way he approached each assignment. He was comfortable providing a cost estimate for his work and I did not experienced any surprises in the final bill. I also feel his prices were fair. He took great pride in his work and when necessary took time to educate me on various approaches or options.
Have have worked with numerous lawyers over the years and I definitely put him at the top of the list. That is why I continue to use him personally and also refer him to both friends and business associates.

Carla is kind, professional, and smart. She helped me get out of my bad marriage during the height of covid with grace and intelligence. She was absolutely a rock when they tried to pull some shady things, like stealing all my stimulus checks and trying to make me share my husbands extremely high credit card debt. The opposing lawyer started screaming during one of our Zoom meetings and Carla was absolutely cool as a cucumber. I got my stimulus money back and I did not have to take on paying back his CC debt. I hired Carla Halpern to assist me with a no contest divorce. She was clear about what to expect, made the process much less petrifying than I'd thought possible, and I felt confident with her on my side.
We experienced a complication when my ex moved to Asia and failed on a part of his divorce obligations. Without leverage to work with in terms of international law, Ms. Halpern deftly managed to help me get him to make good on those obligations.

When it comes to Attorneys, I’ve always gotten the impression that their time was more valuable than mine, and if I wanted actual attention, I was definitely going to be billed accordingly. With attorney Symanski I found the exact opposite. He set a fair price and then charged me exactly that despite how many consultations and changes occurred along the way. He was incredibly sincere and diligent regarding my case, and I also found that he genuinely cared not only about how he did his job, but also about how that performance ultimately resulted in favor of my family and me going forward. Five years ago my company was owed about $2.5 million by a client on a project we built for a high-end restaurant in the Boston area. The bank and the restaurant were pointing fingers at each other and we and our subcontractors were left hanging. In 20 years of as a general contractor my company had never had any issues like this. As a member of a Boston-area law school, I was confronted with a sexual harassment allegation made by the Student Body Judiciary committee. I immediately called Brad and asked him to represent me as numerous lawyers referred him. I was so glad I did! I told him my story and he engaged in a thoughtful step by step analysis of the situation. I was to show up in front of our Dean of Judicial affairs, and I was scared. Divorce is never easy. I hired Attorney Straccia after my first attorney was not able to perform as promised. I was skeptical at first because of my past experience. As a result, Attorney Straccia listened to my situation and showed great compassion. I found him to be extremely honest and forthcoming. I explained to him my financial situation as I had paid my previous lawyer a small fortune and had negative results. He assured me that he wouldn't in any way overcharge me and that he would be upfront and honest with the process and all of the incurring expenses. I found him to be true to his word. Rita expertly guided me through a sensitive and complex eviction case - which I won with her help. She was just the right balance of compassionate and assertive that the situation required. In addition, her experience navigating evictions that involve hoarding was extremely helpful.
Rita spent time clearly answering all of questions. She was a strong advocate in front of the judge, and in communication with the other party’s council. Rita helped me to resolve long standing tenant problem. I spoke with number of attorneys before her and was under impression that my situation is unsolvable. Rita took the issue, researched it, brought my tenants to court and managed to move them out and even get some compensation for me from them! To my amazement I didn't even need to go to court. She called me from court and let me know that she worked it out with tenants and presented their resolution to judge. In next 2 days long time non paying tenants moved out and I've got compensation check from them. That was miracle for me considering time and efforts I spent trying to resolve this situation myself.

James Digiulio was recommended to me by a friend and he was absolutely amazing. During our first meeting he answered all my questions ,explained all the possible outcomes and laid out the best course of action. He warned that it would be a difficult case, but definitely worth fighting. We ended up going to trial where James really shined. From picking the jury, to questioning witnesses , to presenting opening and closing arguments I was 100% confident in him. I am very please with David Asack and his office
He assisted me with a car accident case of where i was rear eneded by a company truck.
David walked me thru the proceess and was able to tell me what to expect from the other person issurance company what to expect from the dr and chiropractor
His secetary stayed on top of my case making sure that my dr and chiropractor billed correctly and made sure that any out of pockets expenses i was reimbursed.

I was faced with a number of issues involving an elderly parent that required immediate action. Atty. Levin immediately understood the critical nature of my needs and initiated an action plan that enabled me to quickly move through a number of legal obstacles. His empathy, professional advice and guidance, willingness to meet at a care facility and vast knowledge on maneuvering through the legal system was greatly appreciated.
