I hired Mrs. Foster to represent me in my divorce and child custody case. My case was complex, the other party refused to try to come to any agreements prior to going to court. I worked with Mrs. Foster for over three years on this case. She made sure that my children were safe and didn't give an inch when it came to that. Her and her paralegal kept me informed of everything that was going on. She also assisted me with all necessary follow up and enforcement hearings. I hired Alyson Foster to draft my post-nup agreement; she also represented me through my divorce. I appreciated that Alyson was straight forward and realistic, but also had a sense of humor. I had servers probation violations and was getting know where in live besides inside jails and prisons. The judge had enough of me a order a fugitive warrant. I ended calling serval lawyers that said to turn yourself in and I couldn’t help you with the case. I thought for sure I would end up back in prison and when I get out return into my old habits. Then I called Will he said he could help me and he 100 percent did. He saved my life I fixed going back to my old ways and he got the warrant taken care of. Mr. Goldstein is one of the best lawyers I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. It was the worse situation I could have on my record and would result in termination of my employment. I was facing simple assault and harassment charges from an altercation where I was only defending myself. I am an attorney myself, in family law. A few months ago I began what has become an emotional roller coaster ride, and listening to the advice of others, I decided to take myself out of the court side and allow myself to focus on myself and children. Jennifer took the reins, and I haven't had a single regret since. She is hands down, one of the best I have ever worked with in this field. If I could vote 10 stars I would. 1/4/19 Friday morning I was googling different attorneys to find an attorney by 1/7/19 Monday. Ms.Paulding paralegal Ms. Mary Ann answered, I spoke to her about my situation. You deserve a good attorney, but you NEED this attorney.
Even if charges brought against you for alleged violations of the law are hyperbolic, wildly mischaracterized, bloated, or even objectively false, this may be the scariest event of your life. Even if you know what you did, what you certainly did not do, and know your actions and decisions were wrought from moments of weakness with the best of intentions, this may be the scariest event of your life. Your freedom, your livelihood, reputation, future, friends, and even family can all be at stake. This can be a torrent of physical, mental, and existential crises. Mr. Melton can help guide you.
The law is written to protect our society and way of life. Punishment should be dealt out in accordance with the degree of violation of socially accepted norms; this is the basic tenant of a just system of law, our system of law. Unfortunately, there can be times when charges brought are based upon subjective and mischaracterized accounts with, at the very most, highly questionable and circumstantial evidence. Charges and potential punishment can far exceed the intents of a just system. In these situations, details matter. A skilled attorney working for YOU matters.
Despite doing their best at a difficult, almost impossible job, law enforcement can be inadequate in exploring these details. You have the fundamental right to remain silent for a good reason. The state and prosecution are very powerful, much more powerful than you. Overworked and under supported public defenders, less skilled attorneys, or those without the personal touch and diehard dedication to justice may not be enough to provide you with fair and just representation. I witnessed this first hand throughout the horrible crucible I had to endure. I learned about the system of law and justice and was able to stay grounded and ultimately reach justice after hiring Mr. Melton.
I did not understand how the word 'felony' could even be possible; terrifying, unjust, unfair, impossible. I thought my life was over until Mr. Melton took the time to consult with me and hear my story. He took the time to get to know me and listened to the details. The details mattered to him. This was a hard, complicated, heartbreaking story tainted and twisted by a broken relationship, love, anger, resentment, and addiction. This was a hard case for any attorney, but Mr. Melton took it in stride. He provided a rock solid, objective, even calculated viewpoint when necessary and a level of friendly, approachable support crucial to the process of finding justice for his client.
He worked tirelessly, above and beyond, to reach not only a great outcome, but a just outcome. In poor judgement, I hunted deer without a license not thinking that I was going to even see a buck. I did in fact see a buck, decided to take the shot, and killed it. I have never seen a game warden in my lifetime, and as bad luck would have it, as I was dragging the deer towards my truck, a game warden drove up. Busted.
The game warden wrote up the citations, but did not specifically call them out, but instead would allow the prosecuting attorney to decide how to cite them. In aggregate, they could have put me in jail for 365 days, up to a $10,000 fine, and a gross misdemeanor on my record.
I contacted Mr. Melton and he immediately he claimed that hunting infractions were his expertise, that I shouldn’t be worried, and that he would get a reduced sentence. He was very kind and friendly, knew the law, and knew the hunting industry.
Instead of waiting for the prosecuting attorney to charge me with the four citations and then negotiate the charges down, Mr. Melton proactively negotiated with the prosecuting attorney before he formally filed charges against me, resulting in me being charged with only one of four counts, a gross misdemeanor for illegal hunting of big game. No jail time. Two years hunting probation. Fine of $2500.
Before the trial, Mr. Melton advised his approach on his strategy. He would indirectly try and get the judge to defer the sentence once my probationary time had been served. The challenge was that Mr. Melton could not overtly ask the judge for it because there was already an agreement in place with the prosecuting attorney and the prosecuting attorney could revoke the agreement.
At the trial, the judge accepted the prosecuting attorney’s charges. I was granted an opportunity to state anything I wanted to say. I acknowledged that I made a serious mistake in judgement, was a professional, no prior criminal history, father, and in good standing in the community. I asked that given my circumstances, that judge would consider derring my sentence once my probationary period was up. He grated that. Without the coaching by Mr. Melton, I would have no known that was even an option or something I could ask for at the time of trial.
In the end, I was very fortunate at the outcome. After two years of probation, the sentence will be dropped and the only consequence for me is a hard lesson learned, two years probation from hunting, and a fine of $2500. It could have been a lot worse.
I am very grateful for the legal acumen of Mr. Melton, his network within the hunting industry, and his tenacity, strategy, insight, and friendliness.

We hired Nick Thornton, for our son who was facing Class C Felony charges. Nick was professional, kind honest and truly interested in a good outcome for our son. Our son made a plea deal to serve 6 years. Nick was there for him every step of the way. He answered all of our questions too, and explained things to us clearly and in a manner we could easily understand. When it came time for my son’s sentencing hearing, we had held very little hope the sentence would be reduced by more than one year. Nick fought for our son forcefully and proficiently. I first reached out to Nick because of his resume on Avvo. When comparing to other lawyers in the area on this metric, he was a no brainer. For context, I hired him in regards to a drug case. Leading up to my final court date, we had not reached an agreement with the prosecutor and because of this I was facing nine months in jail. Coming into that final day there was a lot of uncertainty, but Nick consistently assured me of his confidence on the law. Although I had my doubts, he came prepared and had certainly done his homework in regards to my specific case. Through extensive argument in court, the judge deemed Nick to be correct and the jail time was reduced to probation. Without him I would likely be writing this review nine months from now. I was charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly making threats in the workplace. This event never took place, as I was miles away from the office building at the time when this alleged (fictional) event took place. The allegations was made by a clerical staff with whom I have little contact. There were no witnesses. This delusional fabrication was probably orchestrated by my boss who felt too much competition coming from me, and wanted to have unlimited power. Amazingly, DA's Office decided to pursue the case without an iota of material or any other evidence, based solely on the allegation made by a secretary who has many personal and family issues, a very unhappy and bitter person. Nick collected all the facts, interviewed right people in preparation for the trial. He had several consultations with me, and prepared me well for the case. During the trial, Nick was eloquent, forceful but respectful. It was clear very early in the trial that the only outcome possible will be favorable to me. Nick dominated the trial as a lawyer. I would strongly recommend Mr. Nick Thornton as a criminal attorney to anyone in need of such legal assistance. He is a wonderful communicator, open, and never sugarcoating. Joe Lavigne is an exceptional attorney and an even better human being. He's extremely compassionate, uber-responsive and highly intelligent. He is even a resource for the police community and trains officers on the utilization and dynamics of the DataMaster Breathalyzer.
My OWI was high profile and involved an accident. I needed the best representation possible. I thought I did my homework interviewing more than 6 locally based attorneys, because I felt that was necessary given the accident and the "homer" culture of the community. I hired someone who advertises a ton and claims to be the best. The reviews looked good. But his arrogance and lack of compassion showed through after I paid him, so I moved on. Then, I hired another attorney who was recommended due to his connections to the judges. I thought that was extremely important, so I hired and paid him too. This guy, however, was consistently unresponsive. He even put in a substitute attorney for a video hearing! But then I learned about Joe and hired him, despite feeling backed into a corner because of the locality. I made a lot of mistakes in this process but one thing is clear:
It does not matter where you are in Michigan, local representation does not matter. It can actually even hurt you, since some attorneys put themselves and their community relationships first. You need someone who is smart, thorough, responsive, compassionate and gets the job done. Understanding of the law is what matters! Joe Lavigne is all of that and more. He delivers results!

The best decision I ever made was hiring Joe Lavigne. His negotiation skills are unmatched and he is extremely professional and courteous with all parties when it comes to handling matters in a case. Joe managed to take a felony case punishable by a minimum of 25 years in prison down to a lesser charge with a 6 month probation period with dismissal of all charges upon completion of probation. He does not push you to make any decision you do not want to make, but will give you all of the facts and perspectives so that you can make a fully educated decision on where to take the case. You can tell he truly cares for his clients and is committed to doing whatever needs to be done to get a favorable outcome. Every time I met with Joe or was with him in court I always felt calm and collected knowing he was by my side during this trying ordeal. Hire this man. You will NOT regret it.

She is the best lawyer I have ever known in VA. At first I was so worried about having a record in my life. But after I talked to her, I felt so relieved. She is so nice that you could trust her at all. I had a case that driving 82/70 Mph in VA, which cause a Misdemeanor.. and an infraction for the expired license. The outcome is changing misdemeanor to infraction,no points, no record, no influence on the insurance, and the infraction is dismissed. All in all , she is deserve your trust!

When I contacted Nico to address a court hearing I was upset and afraid what the court system would do to me. I was in a facility awaiting my appearance in court. My family worried they would lose me to system.
But my attorney explained to my wife how under his care the outcome wouldn't be as bad as we thought. He gave the confidence I need to get through the wait of the appearance before the Judge.
I paid a modest fee. Then a day before my day In court I They released me to my happy and overjoyed family. It was so nice to be home and safe.

I would highly recommend Carol to anyone dealing with DCS. After spinning my wheels for almost a year with DCS doing any and everything requested I felt like I was getting no where and terrified of losing my boys. After retaining Carol she spent a few days with me initially, really learning about my case Inside and out. She truly cared and has a passion for what she does. She told me not to worry that my boys would come home to just stick with her. She knew exactly how to handle DCS and in such short time came to an agreement to work on a plan for boys to return home. She is a firecracker and will let your voice be heard. I had been pushed around for a year by DCS jumping thru every hoop 20x and finally felt like I was being treated fairly once Carol came in the picture. My only regret is not retaining her sooner because then things would have gotten worked out a whole lot sooner. Thanks again Carol, me and my boys will forever be thankful!!

Lauren Taylor was great! She's professional and, using her years of experience, was realistic on how to handle certain issues we ran into along the way.
