I didn't know what I needed to do about a tricky situation and Kent Larsson was able to figure it out where other attorneys were stumped. I am thankful that he did not give up on my situation and found the answers I was looking for to help me recover some losses that I thought were gone forever. It's nice to know that he spent extra time researching and finding an answer even though it was time consuming for him. Great analytical skills needed to find a solution.

I've used Alan weiss for drafting several partnership agreements as well as seeking his advise on various related business matters. In short, he's excellent and I would recommend him enthusiastically to anyone seeking an excellent lawyer.

We found Mr. Barrera on Google reviews when we needed an attorney to handle a case which was down in the Valley. We were quickly given proof that the highly rated reviews were valid. His response time is quick. When he is not available, his secretary is quick to respond and relay messages to him. He is professional and cares about his clients. We trust you will be just as satisfied as our family is when you choose him as your attorney.

Carol has worked with me on legal matters involving estates, real estate litigation and personal injury matters. She is detailed oriented and most importantly is a good listener and can find the real issues in all matters. Her legal skill set also includes appeals and family law issues where she has been appointed by the Courts to represent people involved in the Court system. Most people who have not had attorneys before just don't realize how important it is to have an attorney who understands both the legal system and how the Court system can be used to bring justice to the disputes. Carol is that attorney.

I was a client of Mr. David Urteago. The following brief paragraph is an objective review of my experience working with him: Mr. Urteago is the definition of the word "attorney". He does not have any flashy advertisements, but he fights for his clients in a manner unparalleled by anyone. Mr. Urteago is an extremely sharp man who is absolutely fully dedicated to his clients' success. He puts his clients first to a degree that's in its own elevated category. Of course, I recommend this attorney - he'll take great care of you. (My statements are all based on facts from personal experience working with this attorney.)

I am so thankful we found Daniel. Daniel helped us decide between creating a trust or a will. Never did I feel like he was trying to sell me anything. Just advising us on what would be best for my family and I. Daniel was thorough, reliable, patient, communicative, always reachable, and answered every question I had. He spent time explaining everything in depth until I understood it. We really felt we were in excellent hands and I would recommend him to anyone looking to do estate planning.

Issue with neighbor harrasing us for no reason . We sued in civil court and won but nothing happened, we still never got our money after several years of waiting. We hired David and he got us our money. Of course it was a process but not take years, only months. Not cause of david but cause the courts kept rescheduling. David was a pitbull. I would definitely hire him again.

I purchased my first house a year ago and found out shortly after that the seller did not disclose water leaks or mold and in fact tried to cover this up. Collen came to the rescue and helped me through every step in the process. Collen and his team were there whenever I had questions regarding the case and issues from the remediation company all the way to the contractor that finished the build out. Every step of the way Collen was there. Being that it was my first house I really did not want to take this case to trial and it be dragged out for years. Collen was able to settle the case after a couple of months and the settlement was very satisfactory to me. I felt that in any situation Collen would always make time for his clients. I would highly recommend Collen to anyone that has dealt with construction problems. He really knows his stuff and the process.

I am a retired Stanford professional. When I needed a securities fraud attorney I did my research and it lead to me to two securities fraud attorneys, A Stanford law school grad, and attorney Tracy Stoneman. I initially leaned toward the Stanford grad in San Francisco, but several things changed my mind. The attorney in San Francisco , the Stanford grad devoted only 50% of his practice to securities fraud. After speaking with him I knew he is well versed in securities Fraud. I then spoke with Tracy Stoneman at length. I learned she is extremely well versed in securities fraud and 100% of her practice is dedicated to securities and investment fraud. We spoke for a couple of hours about the ins and outs of bringing a tort on my behalf, the legalities involved and the strategy she saw best for my case. My choice was very clear after speaking with Tracy. I am forever grateful to Tracy for taking my case. Any call or email I had for Tracy was promptly answered with detailed information. During the course of my case we regularly exchanged emails. Opposing counsel told Tracy the manager of the brokerage who I was dealing with was terminated for not meeting corporate expectations. Tracy wanted to see the exact HR report on his termination, especially since the brokerage manager was the one advising me. Opposing counsel refused. Tracy told me that isn't good enough for her. After she insisted and threatened to subpoena opposing counsel for the branch manager's reason for termination, the record was released to her. Per his termination he was desperate for money and going to his subordinates asking to borrow money. When confronted by his superior of this serious breach in policy, he lied. He was consequently terminated. Tracy dug and dug and dug, revealing many inconsistencies in the opposing counsel's statements. One such statement was what did the branch manager have to gain by taking in my six-figure deposit. What did he have to gain? Tracy discovered an internal sales contest memo that showed the branch manager was in a sales contest for new deposits. Tracy revealed 1/3 of his previous years income came from getting new deposits. He did it regardless of what it would take to get new deposits or the cost to his clients. My time in court has since ended by almost a year. Recently, Tracy texted me to see how I was holding up during the coronavirus. She knows I have some underlying health issues that make me vulnerable. Tracy is a sincere, beautiful person who has a deep care for her clients. She just doesn't take on a client, earn her fee and move on. Tracy is truly invested in her clients' well-being. I can say without reservation give Tracy a call. You won't regret the call or if you retain her, her dedication to your case. Brad

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
