Goetz was appointed my mother's gaurdian attorney and couldn't have been more annoyed with this fact, especially after the judge asked him to do it a second time. Her gaurdian wants to file a motion to sell our property and the only attorney with knowledge of her sealed court cases has basically told her too bad, find someone else. Zero compassion and minimal effort.

Do not do business with this law office. Does not return messages after promising a response/resolution nearly five weeks ago to an incredibly simple issue. She is very unprofessional. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, as her only other reviews come from her husband and a friend. EDIT: Pertaining to her response below, she most obviously would not want to respond because of the piles of documented proof showing her lack of professionalism and inability to respond to messages after promises to do so. It's funny that it took her 20 minutes to respond to this review, but she still has not responded to a half dozen messages from the previous five weeks.

No Communication thru out the whole process after I paid him all the money upfront. He put my case off for several months after he took my money! He didn’t fight for me he jus took my money & made a deal with the city with me being in distress !!! Now I got a real mental problem dealing with this injustice!!! 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾

I had contacted this office and ended up having the attorney Scott B. Goldie take on my SSDI case. We met a few times and all seemed well. A year after our initial meeting I received a hearing date. I met with Goldie to check in and all seemed fine. About two weeks before the hearing he calls me and tries to get me to drop him as my lawyer. Since I had no time to find new representation I declined. He let it slip that he wasn't even aware that I was applying for SSDI and not SSI. I kept him up to date on my information and it was clear that he had spent no time reviewing my case. He sent me a letter notifying me that he was dropping my case 1 week before my hearing. I recommend seeking representation elsewhere.

No matter what your needing do NOT hire this attorney. Very unprofessional, is late and does not care. Just wants the money. My case did not go the way it actually should have gone! 5 years after this lawyer I was able to hire a better lawyer who actually got what I deserved and helped my child get out of a domestic violence situation and much more. Please do not waste your time or money. I wish I would have done my research the first time.

If I could give "0" stars I would! When Mrs. Perry was assigned to me, I made several attempts to meet with her and call her, and every time I was told "She didn't have the time to speak with me or meet with me". She drug my case out for almost a year until I finally had enough and confronted her and spoke my mind (it wasn't pretty!) She then FINALLY met with me, and during that meeting it was obvious she had no idea about my cases. The meeting ended up being productive and I felt better about her representation. I met with her husband who gave me instructions about the format to present the evidence (because I was getting all the evidence together for my defense) during a restitution hearing. I did exactly as he told me. When I was told to bring in the evidence to her office, I did. When we get to court she informs me that she can't understand what I had prepared. She then told the DA that we didn't have any evidence to prove the discrepancies of restitution. The DA then refused to give me a restitution hearing. I was in shock because she did have the evidence! It was how her husband told me to format it, and it didn't take a rocket science to interpret. This lady basically had evidence of some of my innocence and never presented it! I don't call that representation. She preceded to inform me that I would have to now hire an attorney to have the restitution hearing. At least now I can get a REAL attorney that will truly represent my best interest and be my advocate. PLEASE be aware of this lady! UDATE: She has refused to give me the records I gave her or give me my file. This is an ethics issue with the State Bar of Texas. I have filed a grievance against her.

The fact that they say it was a mistake with that statement, that means internally one of your lawyers wrote that out and thought it was a good idea because you wouldn't have accidentally sent it if it wasn't written or printed. Honestly, get a law firm that treats people like humans. Also, we need to know the lawyer's name who wrote that paper out. Protecting this person is disgusting. You should be blasting this person even if it was a mistake, which again, if it wasn't written or printed, you couldn't have made that mistake, which means at one point you thought it was a good idea.

I did the application online. Someone called me on April 23,2024 and Took all my information. She was not rude or anything. Then I get an email an hour or so later saying I was denied. The next day, I go to the office to get a complain form or something to file an appeal. Google says they are open until 5pm. It was 1238pm when I arrived. Got there and the door says they are closed at 12. It would have been great to know that before I wasted gas since im jobless at the moment. Lastly, it's hard to say if they are truely busy based on reviews since a lot of people do not post reviews, or it's usually people who got upset about something that do, but I will say, I wish they tell us ahead of time if they are taking certain cases or not so that I don't have to waste time giving all my personal information just to be denied. It really seems like there needs to be a better system in place. Plus, the resources they give does not help either so it's pointless to giving out that. Im not going to just say lonestar leagal aid, but, Texas overall can do better to help it's most vulnerable population demographics.

My personal experience with Lone Star in Belton, TX has been a great one. The online application was easy to complete and I received a call back the very next morning from the receptionist, followed up with a phone consultation with an attorney before noon. The attorney was very informative in explaining the laws, hearing process, including an appeal if necessary. He had already done his research before our call, and with less than a week to prepare he was able to get my case dismissed.

His license should be revoked for malpractice. I contacted State Bar of Texas a few times. Money is the root of all evil, and I pray people like this God will handle. To many times he avoided me, over the years, a case by default judgement and he said he never collected. There was a Lien placed on the property so they wouldn't sell unless we got paid, but guess what ? I did my own research and someone got paid because the apt. Complex was sold, and the Harris Cnty records ,show that my case was paid, but never received a penny. Don't waste your time.

What these guys don't mention in their bios is that they're bottom-feeders just like their clients such as "Professional" Choice Recovery. Like far too many others, they very conveniently believe that exploiting a legal/court system for their own personal profit is perfectly fine, like a constitutional right. But just as Jesus rebuked tax collectors, there's supposed to be an actual "value system" which has far higher standards than those that have been molding our legal/court system with only their interests at heart, due to a total lack of Integrity, for more than 200 years. "Our" lawmakers need to close this back door to shameful profits, if a lawyer or law firm can't make enough profits from doing professional work, they should have enough dignity and self-respect to avoid exploiting the court system to go after people with a lot less money than they have. Being Bottom Feeders, isn't a respectable profession. I think Nebraska's small claims court system is decades or more behind many others. Since many people have to attempt to defend themselves, due to attorney costs, we need to be able to make our defense regardless of, and without lawyer tactics. Such things as trying to get a Summary Judgement in small claims court is just a dirty tactic to keep the defendant from defending their position. Of course, it's very likely that the attorney handling small cases is trying to impress the owner or senior partners and probably has to prove to them that they'll do whatever it takes to win cases for their client. In fact I suspect that lawyers put that into their supposed ethics rules, rules I'm pretty certain they created for themselves, again with no consideration for The People. They have a lot more work to do on ethics, they're far from done. It's been proven over and over again that people are far to narcistic to make their own rules, especially in a system that's supposed to be For and By The People. It's my impression that the Nebraska small court system has been routinely granting Summary Judgements, which means the defendant is prevented from telling their side. It very clearly shows that our legal/court system is for and by lawyers, and definitely not For and By The People. In fact it's extremely pro-lawyer, the people looking to become wealthy as lawyers, which is why they choose the profession. The interests of The People were never considered because that would have a negative impact on lawyers amassing wealth.

During our first meeting, outside of Judge Weiser's Courtroom-Victoria TX, Mr. Lewis told me, "We're not going to win. If you don't take the DA's deal then we're going to enhance your misdemeanor charge to felony counts." Immediately, you should notice 2 things: 1. This young man didn't say that we might lose or that there was a high probability of us losing. He said that "we would lose." 2. He said "we're" going to enhance the charges. He didn't say the DA's Office. He said "we're." From the beginning this attorney revealed that he was highly inexperienced and/or nothing more than a "puppet" for the State(looking at this attorney's AVVO profile, you will note that he has been practicing law for a short period in Texas). Our next meeting was at Mr. Lewis's Office. I proceeded to demonstrate in which direction that I desired my case to proceed. Nearly all my suggestions were refuted. Mr. Lewis stated, "I am the Captain of this ship and it will go where I steer it." Excuse me! Excuse me! Correction! This is my life that the State of Texas is playing with; not Mr. Lewis'. It is "my ship" that is being attacked; not his. Now, let me be clear on something! As a minister, I am not supposed to agree to something that I did not do. In regards to the State's plea bargain pertaining to a charge that I was not guilty of, it would be a "lie" before God if I excepted their offer. However, I am guilty of becoming weak during Mr. Lewis's representation. I told him to except the DA's offer which amounted to almost a year in County Jail. On at least 2 occassions, I asked Mr. Lewis if he had heard anything pertaining to the matter. He said that the DA had not yet contacted me and reassured me that the offer of exceptance was on his desk. Eventually, Mr. Lewis was removed as my attorney. While attorney Brent Dornburg was representing me, the same said misdemeanor charge was changed to 3 felony offenses. I asked Mr. Dornburg to check on the offer that Mr. Lewis was supposed to have on the DA's desk. When Mr. Lewis finally responded to Mr. Dornburg, he stated that I never agreed to except any plea bargain. However, I knew that this young man could not be trusted; therefore, I kept records during our association. On 7-19-12, I took such a record before Brent Dornburg. The record consisted of a "motion" that I presented before the "Weiser Court" which explained that I had told Mr. Lewis to except the DA's plea bargain agreement. The motion made it crystal clear that me and Mr. Lewis did not see "eye to eye." The motion made it crystal clear that I had excepted the plea bargain and wanted no discrepancies concerning the matter. What is a lie? As a minister, I have often taught that a lie is when you intentionally deceive or try to deceive someone. Mr. Lee Lewis deceived me, the Court, and Mr. Dornburg. [ the motion was filed in Victoria County Court, State of Texas vs Frederick O. Scott, cause no. 2-98092, filed on or about 10-7-11 ]. At present, I have Mr. Lewis's behavior before the STATE BAR OF TEXAS. Minister Scott, B.A. University of North Texas

This company was hired to collect money for a debt that I owed. I agreed to allow them to charge my debit card $150. I go onto my bank account and this company charged my card twice! I immediately called them back and spoke to Carol Lewis who assured me that this was reversed back and would be back into my account within 24hrs. The next day I show this didn't happen. I made a total of 6 phone calls with her and my bank to get this taken care of. I told her that my bank needed a document on letter head letting them know that the second charge was in error. Carol even argued with my bank who told her they see no request for reversal from them as she stated. Needless to say Carol never "did right by me" as she would say repeatedly. My bank was gracious enough to reverse the second charge that was not authorized. But because of their error this caused me $257.11 in NSF that I had to pay for cause this company said it "wasn't their fault" I spoke with the attorney and he was SO RUUUUDE.. said that it was my fault and they are not responsible for the NSF that they caused! He told me to have an attorney call him. WHO SAYS THAT?

This attorney represented me during my case. I was very dissatisfied with his service. Specifically the fact that he would not return phone calls (for weeks at a time) and made false promises. I also found his assistant to be very rude and dishonest. At one point, I witnessed his assistant pick-up and hang-up the phone on other clients to avoid taking their call. I also witnessed Samuel White's assistant advising other clients that Mr. White was out of the office despite the fact he was sitting right beside her. I assume he uses this tactic as well to avoid clients. Overall I was very dissatisfied and I would not recommend this attorney to anyone.

Drew Templeton Erwin breaking and entering, trying to serve me an illegal eviction notice. I have a whole video of him just walking right in my front door. I also have a phone conversation on file with Mr. Erwin swearing and acting completely unprofessional, being an attorney.

Poor communication and guidance. Exceptionally poor. Was not fought for. Felt alone during entire process. Paperwork incorrect including typos. Absolutely unacceptable. Should have hired someone else but that would have been unaffordable at that point.

Members of the Law office of Riley N Oncken sit on the board of directors of Safe Passage a domestic violence organization in Dekalb, IL meanwhile its attorneys will represent abusive partners for the right cost. This is a for-profit law firm with no true concern for abused children, individuals and families. It is very alarming for a law firm to be affiliated with a domestic violence shelter and then support and represent domestic violence and child abuse perpetrators.

Very disappointing and unprofessional. I work for a Wealth Management firm, and attempted to connect a client with Mr. Onorato to work on his trust and estate. Even though Mr. Onorato agreed to help our client, he has neglected to return phone calls or emails for over a month. I reached out to the firm and spoke with his assistant 10 days ago, and was told Mr. Onorato would call our client in the next few days, but never did. We feel embarrassed that we tried to use the services of the HOF Law Group at this point, and will make sure to never refer them in the future.

I hired Mitch as my Attorney and he won my case! I did a lot of research before hiring him and could clearly see that he was the best when it comes to consumer protection litigation. He is very busy and does not have an assistant so I did have to follow up with him a few times but I didn't mind that because although he is my Attorney, it was still my case. I couldn't recommend Mitch more and greatly appreciate his expert council.

Mitchell able to fight off my credit card fraud case with Forster and Garbus, and the court vacate the judgement for a hefty $52K+ of debt accumulated throughout the years. I still give him credit. But seems like the rest t rebuilt and to clean up my credit file, he is not willing to take up that part.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
