As his client in three different cases, Mr. Corrigan listened carefully to my concerns, in one case a probate issue, in the others, potential real estate investments. In every meeting, Mr. Corrigan's competence was clearly evident, as was his consideration of all my concerns. In every case, he went beyond my and my family's expectations in providing me (us) with straightforward guidance. Being as objective as possible, I simply cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Corrigan's empathetic, expert guidance.

I used this firm twice - once in 2004, and again in about 2006. I found that they were attentive to detail and achieved results that were satisfactory. Their fees were reasonable. I am happy with the results, and would not hesitate to recommend them to a friend. I don't use lawyers very often. I was happy with the outcome from using these guys.

I had Jeff draft a lease for me on my rental house. Since I was a first-time landlord, he was very understanding, and explained everything clearly. While this wasn't a demanding job, and I could likely have purchased a lease from one of several online sources, I felt much more comfortable having a local attorney handle the paperwork. Jeff didn't disappoint, as he was able to answer all of my questions and provide some good general advice in the process. Furthermore, I went back to him when I had to evict a tenant some time later. While I did not hire him to represent me in this case, as I felt I could navigate it on my own, his advice in the entire process was invaluable. His knowledge extends beyond the simple rule of law, as he is very familiar with the peculiarities of working in the Lansing area, and this was perhaps his greatest asset. Should I ever require the services of a lawyer in the future, I will certainly turn to Jeff.

Ours was an extremely complicated bankruptcy case involving multiple national law firms and local bankruptcy law firms, all of great repute. Everyone was an advocate for their client in a bitterly contested drama over a vast range of asset issues. We emerged successfully, paying debts 100% in full, with the sage legal guidance of Mr. Fuqua. He helped in structuring our assets and their partial liquidation. While our case only involved assets of middle range seven figures achieved over a ten year period, Mr. Fuqua treated us equally to his far larger clients who have much greater businesses. We came to understand why Mr. Fuqua is considered one of the finest bankruptcy attorneys practicing in Houston. Importantly, Mr. Fuqua's staff is comprised of many fine individuals who are brilliant in their own areas of expertise and support Mr. Fuqua spectacularly. Giving the support staff due recognition is well deserved. I have 40 years of business experience and can count this man at the top among the many pinnacles of brilliant minds I have encountered and he is one from whom I have gratefully learned much. He earned our trust and he has forever our friendship. Subsequent to your initial visit with Mr. Fuqua, you will be grateful you followed my advice. Engage this fine attorney to protect you. For business sensitivities, we remain anonymous but Mr. Fuqua can share our story with you should he elect.

Mr Aoki did a great job for me in recouping money I was awarded in a judgment almost 10 years ago. He provided great advice, and he used legal approaches that were financially wise for me versus approaches that would be drawn out and cost excessive attorney fees and time ... I received my settlement check today, and I would refer Mr Aoki without hesitation and with great confidence to those needing help with real estate law ...

Mr. Strunk is very helpful and one of the few attorneys that has experience dealing with FDCPA lawsuits in Tennessee. I first met with Mr. Strunk a couple of months before I hired him. He pointed out issues with my case that I had overlooked and gave me some pointers. Other attorneys I interviewed knew less about the FDCPA than I did. After I hired Mr. Strunk the case was settled out of court. He also has a wonderful paralegal and helpful staff!

David had been placed as my lawyer on a case against my ex boyfriend who had spanked my daughter so hard it left bruses, and CPS.CPS had ended up placing the kids with my mother even though i had nothing to do with what had happened. David took the case in strides he was very up front with a plan and never backed down. he always reasured me he would do everything he could to make sure my kids came home to me. The second to last court hearing CPS threw a curve ball at us, they were in agreement for the kids to come home and then in front of the judge they backed out of that and David took over and faught for me he never backed down. he put in a motion and got me the kids back a month later. he was amazing he never complained with the late night calls, emails and questions. he was great if i was to ever have another problem i would definitely want him on my side.

I am an attorney. A couple of years ago I retained Vicky to represent my wife and I in a custody suit regarding my granddaughter. We had hired an attorney from our time to represent us. They quit, too hard to get done. I searched the web looking for someone who would represent us and not rip us off. Without reservation Vicky provided us with the BEST in representation. She was relentless, professional, and conservative in fees. She is a great lawyer!! Hire her if you need a great lawyer on your side.

Ben Schneider was a very calm and trustworthy person. He heard our situation and put up with our insecurity. We never wanted to file for bankruptcy but we had no other choice. Yet, we try to delay our desition in the hope that we could balance our financial situation. When we realize that we couldn't balance it, we spoke to Ben again, and he reasured us and guided us through the process. Then without realizing it was all over. Later there were other questions that he resolved quickly. We didn't even realized what and/or how everything happened. Up to now I still can't believe that is over. We are not sure what and how it happen but everytime we have a question or dubt We feel confortable calling him and asking him what to do. We have regained a peace of mind and we owe it to Ben Scneider.

Steve Leon is an incredibly good attorney. He is above an beyond what is considered to be a benchmark for good performance as an attorney. He is excellent! He helped me recently with a creditor that was suing me for a balance on an account created in my name fraudulently and still I was being sued for this balance. Steven knew ALL of my options and knew the best way for my situation to handle this and we had a positive result from his directives. He knows the law and can work through a case not missing anything. While he did not need to litigate for me, His demeanor, knowledge and no nonsense approach would make him a winning litigator and he will not be pushed around by anybody! I highly recommend Steve Leon. He is also a genuinely honest attorney and he's not out to bill you for every question, staple or stamp! He's really the top in his field and he's very very fair. He's among the best lawyers I've ever worked with.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
