I would highly recommend you look elsewhere for your legal needs, if my experience is any indication of this law firm’s professionalism and competency. I reached out to Donahue, Young & Williams after finding them via Google, reviewing Yelp reviews, and checking out their website. Everything seemed fine. I had an initial intake call where I explained my situation and what I was generally looking for. I promptly received a legal services agreement, signed it, sent over the agreed upon deposit, and also took the time to compile relevant documentation, as requested by Kaylee. By promptly, I mean within three days. Kaylee and Sherry nearly immediately confirmed receipt of payment and documents, and all seemed well - I was confident that I was dealing with a professional and attentive law firm, and looked forward to getting robust advice. I expected this in a relatively timely fashion, as discussed and confirmed during my initial call. 2+ weeks, and 5 calls/emails later, I emailed to ask if someone could take just a few minutes to write back and give me a sense of when I should expect any feedback/insight/etc. This was a relatively simple landlord/tenant issue, and I’d provided well organized information for their review. Taylor Williams-Moniz, the attorney assigned to my case, emailed me, claiming that her office had called me several times (they had not), and tersely stating that though I wanted an email (I actually just wanted a response rather than radio silence), she needed to have a phone call. I wrote back confirming my phone number and asking if she could ensure they’d been calling me as I had to record of said calls, and also suggested a five hour window of availability for the next business day. No response. I had to follow up again in order to get a response from her legal assistant. To make a long and frustrating story short, Taylor Williams-Moniz was very nice when I spoke to her, but couldn’t adhere to deadlines she herself set. Melody Dosch was unfortunately not much more helpful than Taylor - and in general I found the law firm to be not extremely well versed on the law (in one instance, Melody told me she would have to get back to me as to whether my unit was covered under a common law that I was able to discover as a layperson, and which should be been considered in the legal advice granted prior to my question), then proceeded to go on vacation and refuse to put her perspective in writing until I followed up repeatedly and insistently. Mark Younger was also very nice, but also totally missed a call we had scheduled with no prior notice. I also never felt like they advocated for my position or were particularly proactive and believe they misrepresented my actions to my landlord’s counsel (to my detriment). And obviously, I really didn’t appreciate having to agitate for a response from them over and over again. I’d strongly recommend you look elsewhere, as it seems they have a burgeoning habit of playing attentive to get clients to sign, and then deteriorate from there. I also have strong questions on their expertise (at least on landlord/tenant issues) and have some ethical questions about their willingness to give advice without a seemingly thorough understanding of applicable laws.

I deal with attorneys professionally in my line of work. So I'm well versed in what I'm looking for. Some are cheerleaders, some are lazy, and some are pitbulls. Mr. Deller is a pitbull. Probably more like an old pitbull but with a lot of wisdom and experience in the court room. I was looking for a blunt honest attorney who knew his stuff, experienced, and can haul us along for the long fight. I didn't need anything sugar coated. Meeting Mr. Deller filled my needs. My divorce was complicated. I knew it from the start. It took three years but we finished it. The reality in a divorce is you ain't gonna get everything you want. If you approach it in that manner you will disappoint yourself and blame all around you.....including your attorney. Mr. Deller helped bring some realities into what I was asking for and did a great job at negotiating with opposing counsel to get us all to a happy medium. In the end, I still got the better end of the deal. I escaped alimony and child support. More importantly my sons got to voice who they wanted to spend their time with. The odds are usually against men in divorces. However good planning and tactics placed the odds in my favor. But it took some good planning and strategizing. Mr. Deller's team had a great strategy and executed it to my benefit. Mr. Deller is my go to attorney. In addition to my own divorce, I've brought my son's traffic case, and my grown daughter's family law issues to him too. I will continue to bring my legal needs to Mr. Deller. If you're looking for a cheerleader on a budget for an attorney who's going to tell you everything's going to be ok like some of the folks here who gave him bad reviews. You pay for what you get. Then Mr. Deller is not the choice for you. Look elsewhere as there's plenty of budget focused cheerleaders around. If you're looking for an old experienced pitbull to be your counsel. Look no further as Mr. Deller is the man.

I was fighting custody for my two daughters. I felt powerless and defeated until I hired Robert Deller. Having him on my team and watching my ex and his new girlfriend face when we walked out together for quick consultation on what will happen. He had their mouths dropped open and heads spin. That was the best day ever, I am completely confident in his expertise to give him my highest praise. I would highly recommend him to represent you in this unfortunate situation.

Attorney Aja Mann, was my lawyer for 13 years. In those 13 years of representing me, she was outstanding! Not only did she advise me with wisdom and grace, she taught me that you must be fair and compassionate when it comes to difficult situations while co-parenting. Because of her I was able to obtain full custody of my son, and I thank her every day for in some form or fashion for bringing me joy and peace.

After visiting my son who lives out of state, I was deeply concerned by his emotional struggles and the difficulties he was facing at home with his mom. As a divorced parent living in another state, I felt powerless to advocate for him and feared I was failing as a father. My visitation rights and other arrangements had always been unfair, dictated by the terms of the other party. From our first conversation, Aja reassured me that I had parental rights and a voice in my son's well-being. Her exceptional negotiation skills and unwavering advocacy led to more equitable arrangements for our family, prioritizing my son's health and happiness. We are incredibly grateful for her efforts and highly recommend her to anyone in need of a sharp, dedicated attorney who will fight for you.

I'm not one to write reviews but I felt I had to save someone the time and money. I'm a single mother and hired Mr Morris back in October 2023. When I called he immediately answered but told me he was at church and would get back to me. He did indeed got back to me. I told him I really needed help and I needed an aggressive attorney dealing with my Childs father for my child custody case. I decided to go with him because he seemed trustworthy and he was the only lawyer that allowed payments towards the retainer fee. I felt so relieved to have an attorney and someone to represent me. After my contracts were signed he was so difficult to get in touch with. He never asked me questions about my case and I never heard from anyone unless I called them. He has a call center answering once you become a client and he has 2 paralegals named Amy and Kristina. I always spoke to Kristina and she said I needed to relax and that my case was a simple case. Implying that it was going to be smooth and I had nothing to worry about. When they finally filed the paperwork for me to serve my daughters father I had to keep calling them in regards to that matter also. It was a week before my case and I still hadn't heard anything back from Kristina or Mr Morris.. Coming to find out she had a death in her family and Mr Morris was on vacation in Belize. Since he was gone my daughters fathers attorney managed to get the case moved to the Whittier courthouse when we filed in LA and had them served. So now I'm the recipient and he's the petitioner. He let this other Attorney walk all over him and call the shots. Btw The judge in Whittier was a nightmare. She has terrible reviews and is bias. But At this point my anxiety is through the roof because I can't get in touch with anyone, we don't have a case to present because they still haven't asked or guided me on anything to do. He didnt tell me to start documenting anything or pulling up text! Nothing. I had to have my mom call from her number because once you become a client they screen your calls. She pretended to be interested in hiring him and guess what! He called her back. After a month of not speaking to me at all. So he finally gave me an appointment to meet him at his office to go over my case. He never wrote down any notes of asked me what the other party could have against me. Nothing! Finally court, Mr Morris showed up 30 minutes late to court! He didn't register us, when we were in front of the judge he didn't know my case. The Judge asked him what was the status quo and he turned and asked me. I almost got contempt of court because he wasn't saying anything of substance out of his mouth that I told him. They judge kept asking him what was his point. He was talking circles. It was completely embarrassing. He had no fight in court! He didn't take notes at all in court either. You are better off representing yourself. After that horrible experience, I was so distraught. I fired him the next day. He still proceeded to tell the third party who I was going through to pay for him that he rendered all my services and I still owed him 4000 dollars. I will be suing him and reporting them to the bar. He's a money hungry lazy attorney that uses his faith as a front. He doesn't care about making sure you keep your family together.

*Disappointing Experience with Roy Yang Law Office- Lack of Communication and Unprofessional Service* I'm extremely dissatisfied with Roy Yang's Law Office handling of my workers' compensation case. Despite hiring them 7 months ago, I've experienced chronic communication issues and unprofessional service. Key concerns: - *Ignored emails*: Multiple messages regarding my case have gone unanswered. - *Lack of preparation*: No one briefed me on what to expect for my recent QME (Qualified Medical Evaluation). - *Missed appointments*: A phone appointment was scheduled without notification, and I only discovered it by calling the firm. - *Unhelpful staff*: When I do reach someone, I'm made to feel like a burden or an inconvenience. Given my frustrating experience, I question the authenticity of positive reviews. I advise others to exercise caution when considering Roy Yang for legal representation.

Words can't express the gratitude I have towards Brian and his team (especially Miki) at Kendall Gkikas & Mitchell. I actually interviewed four different attorneys before I found Brian. I hear horror stories from others regarding their relationship with their attorneys. During a divorce, you need access to the one person you trust that's assisting you in an already difficult chapter of our lives. If you unfortunately need a divorce attorney, you can feel confident knowing they will always have your back!

Highly recommend. This law firm has been amazing to work with and is a class act. Mr. Mitchell was outstanding explaining my rights as a father and working with the opposing counsel. My situation was a complicated one but Mr. Mitchell was able to write up a parenting plan so I could start seeing my 3 children again after being away from them for 4 years. This firm definitely goes the distance for its clients and the office staff is always there to assist with any questions and I had a lot of them!

She is superior in professionalism, respectfulness, legal knowledge, and has a little spice to get the job done. Sometimes you need someone to just be honest, blunt, and upfront with everyone and she definitely is not going to super coat anything. However, in a lot of situations when dealing with family issues you will need that honesty, integrity, and need the best of the best…like Ms. Amber Hayes office. This attorney was worthless! She let my ex-wife get away with stealing the title of my 2.2. million-dollar house. She is so utterly incompetent with absolutely NO BACKBONE WHATSOEVER to defend the law or her clients. Because she is so weak-minded and spineless even the judges don't show her any respect. I ended up having to pay back the hard money loan my ex-wife took out with the fraudulent property title! Only because Anna Brace doesn't belong being a lawyer. She should do the rest of the world a favor and quit trying to do a job she clearly can only seem to do on an extremely pathetic level! You are better off hiring a Girl Scout to be your lawyer than this ignorant airhead!

My boys’ mother wanted to have our current 50/50 court order changed to 70/50 in her favor. I started a new job that required me to travel for training the first several months. I ended up traveling a lot that first year. During this time, my boys’ mother was keeping a meticulous calendar of when she had our boys on my court ordered time. According to her calendar, she had our boys 70% of the time. Along with some other complaints, she and her attorney brought this calendar into court (thinking it was their winning ACE). What she and her attorney didn’t know was that I had the winning ace. The real winning ace. Anna C. brACE. Anna not only helped me keep 50/50 custody, she had my boys’ mom pay for the investigator’s fees which where around $1,000. Instead of me paying child support, which I did for the first 5 years, my boys’ mom was ordered to pay me child support and arears for the previous year. If this isn’t a win, I’m not sure what is. I give Anna a full 5 stars. Thank you Anna!

Stay away from Trevor Hensley! He is a very passive and highly ineffective attorney and will drag your case out a long as he can, especially if you have known available resources for him to readily deplete. He's much more interested in convincing you to settle for much less than in fighting to get you the greatest outcome; as he works much harder in getting on very friendly terms with the opposing party than in representing you and giving you the needed advice to place you in a favorable position. He thinks he's being effective by becoming "friendly" with the opposing party, when actually, he's getting played and set up for being out-witted and out-foxed. Which he was at every single turn in all of my cases. I hired Trevor to assist me in a highly contentious Divorce, DCSS Child Support and Custody Case that involve a DVRO without any conviction or charges, only allegations. And unfortunately over time it became apparent that Trevor was in way over his head and was incapable of providing adequate counsel for this degree of such highly contested magnitude. Trevor repeatedly manipulated me by giving me false expectations and then failing to deliver. He required constant reminding of the fundamental facts of the case and charged me for every minute, and then some. Then in court, he rarely argued to any degree worthy his fee. Most often, I could have presented a much better argument. Never was he even remotely aggressive. Most of the time he was very cordial, amicable and completely unconvincing. After over a year of his representation and nearly $40,000 in legal fees all I had to show for it was a mere 15% visitation time share with my two toddler boys, joint legal custody only, a non-rebutted 3044 DV case, and an unresolved DCSS Child Support and Dissolution Case. And in the end Trevor deceived me into signing him out of my cases and left me with unresolved issues in every case; while unashamedly taking my money. Every and any favorable decision I received from the courts came as a result of my own efforts before his involvement. Trevor did absolutely nothing for me except take my money and vacate a trial to rebut the Family Code 3044 presumption in lieu of getting me joint legal custody which really amounted to very little considering the cost I incurred while still keeping me bound under the presumption. The bulk of his charges were for responding to email threads that were often a result of asking me for repeat information or because of him not adequately responding to my phone calls and then not answering my initial email inquiries properly in the first place when there was no other way of communicating with him. In his emails, he would purposely respond vaguely only to generate more questions that required his additional response. He preferred email over phone calls because he could arbitrarily manipulate his charges for time. Trevor is an office attorney not a litigator, and prefers making his living sitting behind his desk over-charging for things that don't have a direct and positive impact on your case, but serve only to absolve you of your money. There were many tasks that he'd ask me to prepare for him in helping defend my case and then wouldn't even use them in my defense at the hearings or in the negotiations. However, he did insist on appearing for me on a motion in a criminal case to modify a CPO where he convinced me that he needed to be there to ensure that a then very restrictive CPO would be modified to align with the more lenient DVRO, which he at failed miserably, but still charged me over $3000 for his time. I would certainly not recommend trusting Trevor Hensley to handle any highly contested family matter. In the end, he deceptively walked away from my representation without anything resolved and without any shame or remorse. He failed miserably on so many levels with my cases it's not even funny! And actually, I think he's highly incompetent in resolving any family case when t

During a particularly challenging period, Attorney Jason Blonska represented me with exceptional skill and compassion. My case was complex, involving a spouse with dementia being exploited by unscrupulous attorneys and his children from a previous marriage. I was drawn to Jason's services upon learning of his track record with similar cases. Opting to engage him over a 'Super Lawyer', I found my decision to be sound when Jason adeptly secured a win for me. Jason's deep legal knowledge and persuasive courtroom arguments are commendable. Despite facing aggressive tactics from the opposition, his demeanor remained composed and resolute. Beyond his professional expertise, Jason's dedication and responsiveness made communication a breeze, offering much-needed solace during trying times. Jason embraced a comprehensive strategy when tackling the legal complexities of my case. His resourcefulness shone through as he collaborated with an esteemed estate law attorney, a partnership that proved pivotal in our triumph. Jason's actions reflect a genuine concern for his clients, coupled with a work ethic that’s both rare and admirable in the legal field today. Above all, Jason is an individual of utmost integrity and sincerity. Discovering Jason was indeed a stroke of good fortune.

If lawyers have a bad rep, this guy makes up for all of that. He will give you new faith in lawyers. He did a post nup for me and not only did a great job, but was also quite reasonable, and so easy to deal with. I love his positive energy; he even shared that he enjoyed working with me. I will definitely use Jason again and refer him, too!

I am Rhonda’s actual client and have nothing but great things to say about her. I brought her on to my case in June 2020 in the midst of the pandemic and she was incredibly compassionate and empathetic with my situation. My ex was withholding financial information and after filing my own response and paperwork I realized very quickly that this situation would cause for more than just self representation. He dragged on our proceedings by stating “he didn’t know” on more than one occasion to the judge, filled out his own paperwork incorrectly, didn’t follow court procedures with serving paperwork to my attorney and has in general been very verbally abusive and accusatory in declarations presented to the court that were false and had no relevance to the case further dragging things along. All the while Rhonda has been encouraging and supportive and reminding me of what is actually important to getting things finished. She did not allow me to get caught up in the drama with my ex and instead helped me focus on what mattered most, my kids. She negotiated a very fair custody and visitation agreement that benefitted both parents equally, got us signed up with Our Family Wizard to communicate about the kids, recommended a book on how to interact with each other in our high conflict divorce and even negotiated our financial disagreements in a fair manner. The only real delay in our proceedings were due to Covid related court dates (2020/2021) and then lack of preparedness by my ex who was self represented. Divorce paperwork was filed by my ex in June 2019 and our first original court date wasn’t scheduled until March 2020 which was delayed by Covid until October 2020. CNV was completed in October 2020 and the only thing left were financials which took all of 2021 to get finalized at no fault of Rhonda’s. I am very satisfied and happy with her work and encourage you to give her a call to see if she is the right fit for you. Don’t be swayed by anonymous reviewers pretending to be her clients. She puts your kids first and that’s most important.

She has been my attorney for over two years . She’s very experienced, knowledgeable and professional. She can be very tough in a situation that she needs to be. But she has a very kind and warm personality. She’s been helping me getting through a tough time I’m going through right now. She listens to me in compassion and consults me with her great judgements. Also, she tries to accommodate my needs in various situations. She always tries her best. She really cares about her clients. I highly recommend her. She is the best attorney.

Robert Garland was the perfect attorney to help with my complicated and high conflict divorce and child custody case. He was great with presenting testimony and ensuring all facts were brought to light in court. He was very motivated to get things done timely and I was very lucky to have him on my side.

When I first separated from my ex-wife 7 years ago, I made the mistake of retaining a novice attorney who succeeded in billing me over $5,000 in the first month simply for the pleasure of filing the divorce petition. It was clear that my faith had been misplaced. I quickly initiated a search for new counsel and found Mr. Garland quite by chance. That was probably the best find of my life. Mr. Garland is a top-notch attorney with almost as many years' experience as my former marriage had lasted. I found Mr. Garland to be very knowledgeable in family court matters. He billed fairly and accurately for his services. His countenance is the epitome of cool, calm, and collected both in front of a judge and in front of his client. I only wish that I had begun my divorce petition with Mr. Garland at the outset. Needless to say, he soon had things back on the right course. I firmly believe that his consultative approach and considered advice throughout were instrumental in resolving my case, including putting an end to all spousal support, in a much, much shorter time frame than could otherwise have been expected given that mine was a "marriage of long duration," not a phrase to be taken lightly in the state of California. Mr. Garland, I express to you my most sincere and heartfelt appreciation for all of your assistance in bringing this chapter of my life to a full and complete close. I now have an opportunity to move forward afresh and without encumbrance to write the next chapter. Thank you!

I highly recommend Lerandeau & Lerandeau! Lacey Sanchez and her team were so patient throughout negotiations with my ex and her lawyer (took 1.5 years to settle) gave excellent advice, and even continued to take my calls and emails while I still paid alimony over the past over the past five years even after official representation ended. I remember Paul telling me when I first went to them patience wins the race, and it did. I will forever be grateful to this team!

Run don’t walk from the worst attorney here in the valley! Rick Has a disconnection from his clients that is absolutely unreal! Considering you’re going through, probably the worst period of your life and the most vulnerable. Rick will not only not hear you out, but if you have insane evidence like I did he won’t show it in court and blame it on you. Example, I had video proof of abuse on my own children and written proof but yet it wasn’t ever shown in court to the judge. I could give tons of examples just about Rick, but this would become a novel not a review. But also The staff is absolutely horrible, rude, could care less and give you extreme attitude when you’re at the most vulnerable time dealing with your children. I usually don’t write reviews, but if I could save one parent from the absolute nightmare I went through with this law firm it was worth it. Also, he wanted to charge me more than $10,000 for absolutely nothing and still wanted to charge me more to present the same evidence I showed him when I first looked him up. This law firm will just drain you for all your money without any outcome. Literally at the end of the case I was exactly where I started, and I could’ve done on my own probably better ! His secretary is probably the rudest woman I’ve ever known, and what you get for over $10,000 is speaking with Rick a few times at Tops and you have to fight just to speak to your own attorney for that much money so you’re mostly speaking with his secretary thats insanely rude during the whole time. so you’re pretty much paying $10,000+ for a paralegal. I was hoping to find an attorney with good ethics and that cared for father‘s rights, and I got the complete opposite and also found out at the end of my trial that Rick and the other attorney of the mother that was abusing my children with the stepfather that actually hit my children Was going on vacation with each other. So not only did I get screwed but come to find out during the whole time both attorneys knew each other on a personal basis, the other attorney was Arnold also here in Fresno. I hope he goes out of business or retires because he obviously doesn’t care about his clients anymore. so once again don’t walk away from this attorney run! I would give my life in a heartbeat to choose another attorney and do the fight all over again to get my kids back. I hope this saves and helps some parent looking for justice for their children. if you ever watch the movie “law, Biden Citizen”, and the first part where the person that’s supposed to be defending, you shakes the hand of the person taking away your children that sums up Rick Banks! And if you’re a father and live in California, everything weighs against you, he will not fight for you. He’ll take a vacation with the person taking away your children. Funny part and the only funny part is we had a different Attorney with my stepdaughter, and we almost got full custody plus we could’ve had her full-term but we decided it’s our child’s decision not to have her father and her life when she gets older. Because we believe every child has the right to decide if they don’t want that person in their life. plus I have a son that we have 100% of the time.but yet with my two oldest daughters, the dirtbag couldn’t show the video that showed my children getting abused in court because that would cost another probably 10 grand. to sum it up if you want father right in California do not go to Rick Banks.

To qualify myself as a consumer of legal services: I've worked with four family attorneys in two California counties, so my opinion is somewhat comparative. My experience with Rick Banks' Law Office was very good. He was the same attorney in the courtroom as he was in the office--consistent, knowledgeable and reliable. His staff members were as savvy and honest as he was. Regarding value, the service was on par with the rates, so I feel my money was well spent.

Biased attorney 100%! Be careful and make sure he agrees with what you're asking for or he won't fight for you in the court room. He will just sit there and say absolutely nothing and let you get destroyed by the other parties attorney like he did to myself! He was a waste of time and a waste of money! I would never recommend this man to anybody!

Consulted with quite a few different offices before deciding to go with Donna, and I clearly made the right decision! Donna was able to navigate through what was candidly a rather complex eviction situation. She fought hard through the entire process, and ultimately we were able to reach a settlement before trial that would be seen as a winning verdict. Incredibly personable, and leaves no page unturned. Would highly recommend to anyone who may be dealing with a similar circumstance.

Mrs. Donna Pettway I found on yelp. I read 2 reviews and called the number. Mrs. Pettway answered the phone it was 9:01am. She was extremely informative and her level of expertise was fantastic. Mrs. Pettway took me on as a client, I had less than 15 days for trial. Mrs. Pettway prepared me legally and mentally. Mrs. Pettway was able to negotiate before trial in the hallway of the courtroom with the plantiff multiple attorneys. In the end!I won, a settlement.

Donna is one of the worst lawyers I've ever dealt with, she is extremely unprofessional and out right ghetto. She missed several timely emails with the oppositions lawyer that caused us to lose the opportunity to mediate. She then hits us with a 20k+ in legal fees and said you should just settle and pay them 35k. I would never recommend her or her firm to anyone, unless your looking for an unprofessional and incompetent lawyer. Worst experience in my life and I honestly felt cheated and taken advantage of by someone we paid to fight for us and trusted to represent our best interest.

Attorney Review/Reference We live in Texas and our son is stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California Our son got a dear john from his wife the day after he was deployed to the Middle East and informed that she had filed for divorce and she would be sending the papers. While deployed he would call to speak to his two year old daughter and read her a bedtime story. He had to leave these on voicemail as his calls a world away were not picked up. He returned to a tumultuous household six months later and divorce proceedings were initiated by his wife they had been married approximately a year and a half. He had to hire an attorney and chose Ms. Mellanie Marshall. Divorce is a terrible and damaging event to all parties and especially when children are involved. Ms. Marshall was very patient in dealing with a highly frustrated client. As a member of the military he could be deployed or transferred at any time. This was a concern as a custody issue and was emotionally crushed that he might not be a part of his daughter’s life. M.s Marshall provided my son a realistic scenario of the possible outcomes but also was able to remain a calming influence to her client. She thoroughly researched the parties involved to come up with her game plan. She was interested in what was in the best interest of her client as well as the child. She was able to work with the opposing attorney to reach what would have been a reasonable accommodation to reduce the turmoil in the little girl’s life as well as the divorcing couple. The opposing attorney was unable to get her client to be reasonable with conditions that would allow both parents to be involved with the child. As a result, the opposing attorney was unable to work with her client and removed herself as her representative. In court Ms. Marshall was competent, thorough and I believe more than reasonable. The outcome that Ms. Marshall achieved was fantastic. My son has a custodial arrangement that allows him to be an integral part of his daughters’ life. She took a toxic situation and turned it into lemonade. My son has renewed his spirit and his daughter is happy. She now has an opportunity to interact with other children her age at the on base child development center. If you want a good attorney in dealing with a messy divorce situation you can’t go wrong with Marshall Law (firm). Robert and Donna Austin, Texas.

My experience with Sara was amazing in the beginning. So I thought. She developed a level of trust. Coming from a trusting person. That means a lot. I trusted her. I trusted she had my best interest at heart. I’m a person that wants results though. Playing the long game in the family court system only benefits the attorneys. Fees fees and more fees. And she suckered me into it. 2 years later and, 10’s of thousands of dollars spent. I’m baby steps from where I was. I’m the beginning. Thanks to Trust and being venerable to a person and system your unfamiliar with.

I’m really late at writing this, but my husband and I hired Sara Anderson to help with termination of parental rights, stepparent adoption and a restraining order. We actually didn’t even meet with any other lawyers, the second we walked out after our consultation we both agreed she was the one we wanted on our side. From day one she and her team were always quick to respond, open and honest and worked incredibly hard to get everything we wanted. Honestly, it felt like family was fighting for us rather than just a law practice. We are incredibly thankful for her and her team. They took one of the most stressful and scary moments in our life and handled it perfectly. Her and her teams knowledge and determination are the reasons we got exactly what we wanted in the end. We recommend them anytime someone needs a family law lawyer. Truly, they are the best. It’s been 2 years and we still talk about how much we appreciate Sara and everything she did for us. Because of her and everyone in the office, our family is whole and there is nothing more that we could have asked for. If you’re looking for someone who will go above and beyond and fight for you until the very end, Sara Anderson is without a doubt the person you want. A million times thank you to her and everyone in her office.

Sara and the rest of the team at Sherlock // Anderson were provided me with expert legal advice that was timely, effective, and accurate. Throughout the course of my divorce, Sara patiently provided thorough explanations of terminology and procedures, as well as helped to set proper expectations. We established goals for the outcome and we achieved those goals. I have a disabled son and she addressed his long-term well being with sensitivity and ensured that his care and happiness were at the core of our efforts. She also ensured that my sons were safeguarded from a parent with a substance abuse problem. I would have been lost without her counsel. The team at Sherlock // Anderson is incredibly responsive and respectful. They work in concert to provide an efficient, effective client experience. I never felt like there were unnecessary charges or expenses. I received the referral from a friend who is an attorney and I have thanked him repeatedly for directing me towards Sherlock // Anderson.

I'm not sure who wrote all the reviews, on or around the same day, but their experience does not match my experience with Ms. Stiles at all. I found her to be a highly aggressive, win at all costs, attorney. Her win at all costs game plan almost destroyed my coparenting relationship with my ex. Let's face it, financial issues during a divorce are not easy but they should always be fair and as transparent as possible. I began to see my coparenting relationship deteriorate before my eyes with each strategically crafted correspondence between lawyers. The stress on my children, from the financial battle going on between their parents, was a heartbreaking experience to witness. My decision to finally seek another lawyer was the best decision I ever made. My stress level went down, my divorce got finalized, and I have an amazing coparenting relationship with my ex (I have to wonder if the other reviewers can say the same). I may not have gotten all the money out of my divorce that I possibly could have using Sheila Stiles and her firm, but I've got piece of mind in knowing that my kids will always know that I treated my ex with respect and fairness during a really difficult time.

I engaged Steve for a financially complicated divorce from start to finish over a period of years. With Steve's guidance, I assembled an international team of forensic and tax accountants. I emerged with an astonishing settlement. This was one of the best collaborations in my career, legal and business experience. The experts who worked with us seem to have a similarly positive impression of Steve. Some reviewers say that Steve is interested only in fees. Well, I have quite a lot of experience paying Steve and I was not overcharged. He always guided me toward the least inflammatory, most economical approach; I did a lot of the work myself. I got good value for my money. In the interest of full disclosure, I want you to know that in my case only finances were contested. There were no children and no trial. My ex-wife, her attorney and I were all businesslike. Still, from what I have seen Steve has the experience and personality to guide you through a more emotional divorce. Get a consultation and judge for yourself.

I hired this lawyer because I saw his answers on many questions posted here. I was very apprehensive about hiring him as there were no reviews but thought may be he is old school so that's why. It was indeed foolish of me. He charged me a big retainer which he agreed could be paid in installments and if I didn't like his work he would return the money. Mr. Cone only indulges in emails, will charge $450/- an hour, has no team and is all about being vague with no plan for your case as a client. He has no assistants aides to help him, so even for minor stuff you will get charged $450-an hour flat. He charged me $300/- just for serving papers to my husband. His emails are vague to the extend that you will be left puzzled and more confused than ever. He had no clear idea about my case. Please be careful with this lawyer. There is a reason there are only 2 reviews for him, even on Yelp. I trusted him with my money and with my case but i was very disappointed. Ive had to hire another lawyer and this time i was careful about it. Mr. Cone didn't have a plan for me, I had to keep asking him for stuff and he just made a big bill for me for the vague emails he sent me. And later says that's how he makes money. In the end, when I switched lawyers, I've had to pay a bigger retainer to the new lawyer, but at least I have hired a lawyer with good reviews. Reviews mean a lot - there is a reason they are written. Written with intention about the character of the lawyer, his style of working and about the work ofcourse. Please don't hire reading his answers. In a career spanning over 45 yrs, he has only 2 ratings here, which mean something. I started feeling I will have to change soon after I filed and realized how much he had charged. I finally took him off my case when he emailed me, after reading a random post on AVVO which was written by someone else and not me. This showed me he didn't know my case at all. And to email me asking about some random case is absolutely absurd and ludicrous. Who has time for this ? He does, because he books clients by taking the retainer and then enjoys posting on avvo here to questions as his hobby. He refuses to pay me the amount he owes me. Upon calling him, he tell me do what you have to but this is it. I am shocked at the way this lawyer has behaved! Pl save yourself money, time and disappointment and hire someone who may be ready to take your case, puts in some effort and really has integrity and the intention to help you.

Sandy has worked on 2 divorces for me. She'll be working on my prenup first if I ever marry again! The first case she gave me such comfort because we could work together in her office and it did not seem like such a mystery. She was tough and effective. The other attorney had to step off the case after Sandy pointed out some questionable antics. Tough and knowledgeable. Comforting and honest. The second case the other attorney seemed to be snowing us with paperwork to bring up their clients bill. I could see it and thought the OTHER SIDE was sloppy, dishonest, and ineffective in comparison to Sandy. Sandy is accurate, honest and effective.

What a Child Custody Lawyer Can Do for You

A child custody lawyer specializes in helping parents navigate legal matters related to the custody and care of their children, particularly in the context of divorce, separation, or other family disputes. These lawyers assist with determining custody arrangements, drafting parenting plans, and advocating for your rights in court. They also help resolve disputes over physical custody (where the child lives), legal custody (who makes decisions for the child), visitation rights, and modifications to existing custody orders.

Whether you're going through a divorce or need to change an existing custody arrangement, a child custody lawyer can help you understand your rights and protect your child's best interests throughout the legal process.

When Should I Hire a Child Custody Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a child custody lawyer in several situations, especially when disputes arise or complex legal issues affect your parental rights. Some common reasons to hire a child custody lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: If you're going through a divorce or separation and need to establish custody and visitation arrangements, a lawyer can help ensure the custody order reflects your child's best interests.
  • Disputed custody cases: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody or visitation terms, a lawyer can advocate for your rights in court and help you develop a strong case.
  • Modification of custody orders: If you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to changes in circumstances (e.g., relocation, changes in the child’s needs), a lawyer can help file a modification request.
  • Parental alienation: If the other parent is interfering with your relationship with your child, a lawyer can help address these issues through legal action.
  • Domestic violence or abuse: If there is a history of domestic violence or abuse, a lawyer can help protect you and your child by requesting restraining orders and advocating for appropriate custody arrangements.
  • Grandparent or third-party custody: If you are a grandparent or another relative seeking custody or visitation rights, a lawyer can guide you through the legal process.
  • Paternity disputes: In cases where paternity is in question, a lawyer can assist with establishing or challenging paternity, which may affect custody and visitation rights.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help protect your parental rights and ensure that the custody arrangement is in your child's best interests.

What Does a Child Custody Lawyer Do?

A child custody lawyer provides a variety of legal services to help parents resolve custody disputes and secure favorable custody arrangements for their children. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing custody petitions: Helping you file the necessary paperwork to request custody or visitation rights and ensuring all legal procedures are followed.
  • Negotiating custody agreements: Assisting in negotiating custody and visitation arrangements, often working toward a mutually beneficial parenting plan without going to court.
  • Representing you in court: If you and the other parent cannot agree on custody terms, representing you in court by presenting evidence and making legal arguments to support your case.
  • Drafting parenting plans: Helping you draft a comprehensive parenting plan that outlines the schedule for physical custody, decision-making responsibilities, and visitation.
  • Handling child support issues: Assisting with related issues such as child support, ensuring that financial obligations are properly calculated and enforced.
  • Modifying custody orders: Helping you request a modification from the court if you need to change an existing custody arrangement due to significant life changes.
  • Mediating custody disputes: Acting as a mediator to help both parents reach an agreement on custody and visitation without the need for litigation.

How Are Child Custody Lawyers Paid?

Child custody lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case, the time involved, and the nature of the legal work. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Most child custody lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer's experience and location. The total cost depends on the time spent preparing documents, negotiating, and representing you in court.
  • Flat fee: For simple custody matters or uncontested custody agreements, some lawyers may offer a flat fee for specific services, such as drafting a parenting plan or filing a custody petition.
  • Retainer: Many lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the lawyer works on your case. The amount varies based on the expected complexity and duration of the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some lawyers may offer reduced fees or pro bono (free) services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in cases involving domestic violence or other serious issues.

It’s important to discuss fees and payment arrangements with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will be charged and what services are included.

How Much Does a Child Custody Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a child custody lawyer depends on various factors, including the complexity of the case, whether it’s contested or uncontested, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost estimates include:

  • Uncontested custody cases: Legal fees may range from $1,500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the paperwork and any negotiations.
  • Contested custody cases: Legal fees can range from $5,000 to $40,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the issues, the need for expert testimony, and the time spent in litigation.
  • Hourly rates: Lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or complex custody disputes.
  • Mediation services: If both parents agree to work through mediation, costs typically range from $1,000 to $5,000 or more for the mediation process.

Always ask for a clear cost estimate during your consultation to ensure that you understand the total legal fees and payment structure.

Top Questions to Ask a Child Custody Lawyer

Before hiring a child custody lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Some key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with child custody cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your case involves complex issues like domestic violence, relocation, or paternity disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees for certain services, or requires a retainer, and ask for an estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and expected outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline from filing the petition to reaching an agreement or going to trial.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Ensure you know who will be managing your case and representing you in court.
  6. Can we pursue mediation or alternative dispute resolution?
Ask whether the lawyer recommends mediation or other forms of dispute resolution to avoid a lengthy court battle.

How to Check the Credibility of a Child Custody Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable child custody lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for family law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in family law and child custody cases.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge the lawyer’s professionalism and success in child custody matters.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on custody cases.
  • Check for certifications: Look for lawyers who are board-certified in family law or have memberships in organizations like the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) or local family law sections.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a child custody lawyer, come prepared with relevant documents and information:

  • Court orders or existing custody agreements: Bring copies of any existing custody or visitation orders for the lawyer to review.
  • Communication with the other parent: Provide copies of emails, texts, or letters regarding custody, visitation, or disputes.
  • List of your child’s needs: Prepare a list of your child’s specific needs, such as medical care, education, and extracurricular activities.
  • Timeline of the case: Outline key events related to your custody case, including changes in living situations or parental involvement.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the custody process, legal fees, and the lawyer’s strategy for your case.

By being well-prepared, you can help the lawyer assess your situation effectively and receive the best possible advice for protecting your rights and your child’s well-being.
