I was hit from behind by another vehicle while at a complete stop. I suffered from whiplash, injured wrists, and throwing my already bad back into spasms. I received all the medical and chiropractic treatment I needed to recover. Andrew Dimmock worked hard to assure that I was fairly compensated and all injuries and damages were healed and repaired. Thank you Mr, Dimmock for your expertise in negotiating a fair settlement.

I was rear ended by an uninsured drunk driver at 50mph. Injured and unsure of my options I found Andy Dimmock who repeatedly told me to focus on my recovery and treatment and he would take care of the rest beginning with ensuring my bills were paid via PIP and he would pursue my own insurer for uninsured motorist coverage. As expected I was still receiving treatment a little under a year later at which point Andy informed me my insurers had forwarded the full amount of my policy. I learned the game changer was managing to get my blood sucking chiropractor to provide a detailed assessment of my injuries before and after my accident for my insurers to settle the claim. Meanwhile my chiropractor was simply milking all the PIP and more by having me see him 5 times a week! Andy managed to stem the flow of projected medical fees by getting this claim finalized early and well before my chiropractor and physical therapist sucked the claim dry.

November 1998, Im five years old nearly killed in an auto accident. Lawyer #1 takes the case... Four years pass... little progress and some sort of conflict arises, and he withdraws from my case. Mid 2002 lawyer #2 takes over... Once again little progress... November 2002 lawyer #2s law practice is purchased by Andrew and his business partner. August 2003, Andrew has my train wreck of a case straightened out. Andrew did more for me in a week that lawyer #1 was able to do in four years! I came away with over $5,000 more than I would have had it not been for him! I was born with learning disabilities. We were able to use the settlement money to pay for a tutoring service. That tutoring service was a huge help with my education. To this day when I tell people about my education the story involves "learning to even read was hard...then I went to(institution name)".(Institution name) would not have happened had it not been for Andrew. Even after the tutoring service was paid for, I still had more money than I even would have had he not taken over! Present day, I am now in college. The settlement money that i had was a huge help in avoiding taking out student loans right in the beginning of school. I don't know where I would be today had it not been for Andrew! Sincerely, A very grateful former client

Mr. Buffington was very helpful with our process, and we felt very comfortable with his services. We first thought that he was asking for too much paperwork, but at the end, the big list of documents that he required for us to have ready, was very helpful. We think that if it wasn't for all the evidences that Mr. Buffington asked us to have ready before our first meeting, our case would have probably taken longer. The immigration agent ended up asking for more evidences after all, but with the help of Mr. Buffington, and the letters he wrote to the immigration agent in our behalf, we were able to get my green card in less than a year. We are very pleased with Mr. Buffington's services and also his very nice legal assistant, Nina. Everything went so smoothly thanks to them and how organized everyone is in his office. My husband and I are very happy to have hired Mr. Buffington for our case. We recommend his legal services to anyone who is looking for an organized, responsible, knowledgeable, and detailed attorney in the Tacoma area.

Wayne took on both of my claims immediately, being there from start to finish. This helped Wayne and myself win both claims with the best results anyone could hope for.I would recommend Wayne and his staff to anyone with a job injury as they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Wayne is always well prepared for court and doesn't hesitate to get right to the point and if need be, get in someone's face. Also, thank you again Wayne, your the help that everyone wishes for!

Mr. Lieb took on my Workman’s Comp claim just weeks before the trial because I tried to do the work myself. Handing my claim over to Wayne and his team became my saving grace. Without his expertise, I am certain, my claim would be denied. However with Wayne’s outstanding work, my claim as well as all lost wages were paid. I consulted 2 other attorneys regarding my claim and Wayne was far and above more knowledgable regarding the Workman’s Compensation process.

Before I was represented by Kyle Smith, I felt vulnerable to the L and I system. Any mistakes they made or delays in response on their part was costing me time and causing me stress. After three months of trying to deal with this on my own I decided I needed representation. Kyle took my case and helped to guide me and L and I all the way through to the other side of this case. My stress level went down and I felt protected by the law. Kyle has a support team that represents him well. I was treated with respect by both his assistant and his secretary. In the end, I received a settlement that was slightly more than I had expected and I knew that my attorney was willing to put up a fight for me. I would hire him again in heartbeat. Thank you Kyle Smith, John and Diana.

Justin was an excellent lawyer. Justin and his team of Karl E. Malling and Jen Basetti went over and above my expectations. Previously, I had hired a diffrent law firm that did not have my intrests in mind and were not treating me fairly. Justin and his crew came in and "rescued" my case, restoring my hope in hiring an attorney. I couldnt have asked for more, I would recommend him to anyone looking for an honest, driven, timely, and intellegent person to represent them.

I used the Walthew Law Firm for a recent legal matter and could not recommend them more highly. They were successful in negotiating a settlement on my behalf, at a significantly higher amount than I expected. Moreover, my attorney, Jon Winemiller, and his paralegal, Melina Karadzic, were quick to respond to all of my questions and helped me to close the matter on my behalf efficiently and effectively. I felt like I had a strong team of advocates on my side throughout the process. I would not hesitate to retain Walthew and Jon Winemiller in the future.

If anyone needs legal counsel, Jon Winemiller and Vanessa Gullufsen are the people to see. We live a fair distance from Seattle, and it was worth the long drive in sleet and snow to see them. My wife and I ran into very complicated and confusing legal problems when we got a huge bill about which we had no idea. The legal issues involved two gigantic businesses that don't communicate with each other or their clients. Jon, Vanessa and the rest of the staff put our needs first. From the first contact, they let us know that they were bringing all their expertise to the table, keeping us in the loop. They explained what was going on in terms we could understand. They gave us our options, and we left the meeting with a clear sense of what we should do next in order to resolve things.

Phillip called back within hours after I called for a free consultation. He was very kind, reassuring and sympathetic for everything I'd been through with my work injury, dead ends and L&I denial. He was so knowledgeable advising me on what to do next, assured me he could get the denial reversed and offered contact information for a psych nurse practitioner who was familiar with work injuries like mine. Phillip also suggested I call around to check with other attorneys before deciding to hire him. I can't say enough about how much this refreshing perspective and encounter changed my outlook. Phillip genuinely cares and gave me light at the end of a very dark tunnel! I highly recommend having him on your side fighting for your L&I rights.

Amanda Peters clearly understands the in's and out's of Maritime Law. She did an Excellent job of clearly explaining my case every step of the way. When ever I had any questions or concerns, either she or her extremely competent support staff were there to help. I worked for a Law Firm a number of years ago. After that experience I hoped I'd never have to deal with an attorney for any reason. They were the one's all the lawyer jokes were made for. Amanda has restored my faith in the legal profession. Not only was she a total pleasure to work with, she was able to negotiate a settlement that was ten times more than the original offer. That was definitely something I didn't expect. At no time during the process was I ever left wondering. Amanda always kept me abreast on what was happening. All in all it was a wonderful experience. Yes I have and will continue to refer anyone that is in need of her services. Thank you Amanda!

No matter what the outcome of the case would have been, I would have always given five stars. The outcome of our case did turn out very well. If we didn't have Gary and his team it would have turned out very different. I owe it all to everyone at the Preble Law Firm. Just be prepared to answer with a yes or a no. Gary really likes his questions answered with a yes or no. I am the type to try and elaborate on something. That took some getting used to. Gary has good intentions. If you want your case to be handled by the best then I would hire Gary and his team. I truly believe it was their expertise that got us the outcome we received. He will tell it like it is. He will also crack jokes to lighten the mood. When you are going to fight a case it's best to have someone be honest with you. I will forever be greatful to Gary and his team. He is the lawyer you want on your side. He is mindful of your money too. Gary Preble and his team are the ones to hire.

What a Workers’ Compensation Lawyer Can Do for You

A workers’ compensation lawyer specializes in helping employees who are injured or become ill as a result of their job to receive the benefits they are entitled to under workers' compensation laws. These lawyers represent injured workers in claims for medical benefits, wage replacement, and other compensation related to workplace injuries or illnesses. They also help when claims are denied, benefits are delayed, or disputes arise with the employer or the insurance company.

Whether you've been injured on the job, developed an occupational illness, or are dealing with a denied workers' compensation claim, a workers’ compensation lawyer can help you navigate the claims process and ensure you receive the full benefits you deserve.

When Should I Hire a Workers' Compensation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a workers' compensation lawyer in several situations, especially when complications arise during the claims process or when your rights as an injured worker are being challenged. Some common reasons to hire a workers' compensation lawyer include:

  • Claim denial: If your workers' compensation claim has been denied, a lawyer can help you appeal the decision and represent you in hearings or litigation.
  • Inadequate benefits: If the insurance company offers you a settlement that doesn’t cover your medical expenses, lost wages, or other damages, a lawyer can negotiate on your behalf for a fair amount.
  • Delay in receiving benefits: If your benefits are being delayed, a lawyer can help expedite the process to ensure you receive timely compensation.
  • Permanent disability: If your injury leads to permanent disability (partial or total), a lawyer can help you navigate the more complex process of securing long-term benefits.
  • Retaliation by employer: If your employer retaliates against you for filing a workers' compensation claim (e.g., by firing or demoting you), a lawyer can protect your rights and pursue legal action.
  • Third-party liability: If a third party (e.g., a contractor or equipment manufacturer) was responsible for your injury, a lawyer can help you pursue additional compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Pre-existing conditions: If your employer or the insurance company claims that your injury is related to a pre-existing condition, a lawyer can help you present evidence showing that the injury was work-related.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can prevent delays, avoid mistakes, and ensure you receive all the benefits you’re entitled to under workers' compensation law.

What Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Do?

A workers' compensation lawyer provides a range of legal services to injured workers, ensuring that they receive the benefits they deserve. Their tasks often include:

  • Filing claims: Helping injured workers prepare and file their workers' compensation claims to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Appealing denied claims: Representing workers whose claims have been denied and guiding them through the appeals process, including hearings and court appearances.
  • Negotiating settlements: Negotiating with insurance companies to secure fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
  • Handling disputes: Resolving disputes between the injured worker, the employer, and the insurance company regarding the amount of compensation or the nature of the injury.
  • Coordinating medical evidence: Gathering and presenting medical records, expert testimony, and other evidence to support the workers' compensation claim.
  • Advocating for benefits: Ensuring that injured workers receive all the benefits they’re entitled to, including temporary or permanent disability benefits, vocational rehabilitation, and medical treatment.
  • Filing third-party lawsuits: In cases where a third party is responsible for the injury, a workers' compensation lawyer may also pursue a personal injury lawsuit to recover additional damages.

How Are Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Paid?

Workers' compensation lawyers typically charge a contingency fee, meaning they only get paid if they successfully recover benefits for you. This fee is usually a percentage of the benefits awarded, and the specific percentage is often regulated by state law. Here's how it generally works:

  • Contingency fee: The lawyer's fee is typically between 15% and 25% of the total benefits awarded to you. You don’t have to pay any upfront legal fees, and the lawyer’s fee comes out of the settlement or benefit award.
  • No fee if no recovery: If the lawyer doesn’t recover any benefits for you, you generally don’t have to pay for their services.
  • State regulations on fees: Many states cap the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge, and some states require the fee to be approved by the workers' compensation board or judge.

Be sure to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how much you will owe if your case is successful.

How Much Does a Workers' Compensation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a workers' compensation lawyer typically depends on the contingency fee arrangement, meaning the lawyer’s fee will be a percentage of the benefits you receive. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: Most workers' compensation lawyers charge between 15% and 25% of the total settlement or benefits awarded. For example, if you receive $50,000 in benefits, the lawyer’s fee would range from $7,500 to $12,500.
  • State regulations: Some states limit the percentage that workers' compensation lawyers can charge. In these cases, the fee is usually capped, often at 20% to 25%, depending on state law.
  • Additional costs: Some lawyers may charge for out-of-pocket expenses, such as filing fees, medical records retrieval, and expert witness testimony, though these costs are typically deducted from the settlement after the case is won.

You should always ask for a clear explanation of fees and potential additional costs during your consultation so you understand the financial arrangement.

Top Questions to Ask a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

Before hiring a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the best fit for your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with workers' compensation cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, especially if your injury is severe or the case involves disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and whether there are any additional costs you need to be aware of.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case, including the potential challenges and outcomes.
  4. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Find out if the lawyer has experience dealing with cases involving similar injuries or disputes, such as denied claims or permanent disability.
  5. How long will the process take?
While it’s difficult to predict an exact timeline, the lawyer should be able to provide a general estimate based on their experience with similar cases.
  6. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your claim.

How to Check the Credibility of a Workers' Compensation Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable workers' compensation lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for workers' compensation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in workers' compensation law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and service.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their experience in workers' compensation cases.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the Workers' Injury Law & Advocacy Group (WILG) or local bar association committees on workers' compensation can indicate the lawyer’s commitment to this area of law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a workers' compensation lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Accident report or incident documentation: Bring any documentation related to your workplace injury or illness, including accident reports or notifications to your employer.
  • Medical records: Provide copies of medical records, including treatment notes, doctor’s reports, and any information related to your injury or condition.
  • Employer correspondence: Bring any letters, emails, or forms related to your claim from your employer or the workers' compensation insurance company.
  • Wage and benefits information: Provide information on your wages, benefits, and any lost income due to the injury.
  • List of questions: Prepare questions about your case, the process, costs, and what to expect moving forward.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a timeline of the incident, your injury, and any medical treatment or communication with your employer and the insurance company.

Being well-prepared for your consultation will allow the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide you with the best possible legal advice.
