I never expected to need a criminal defense attorney, but when I did, a quick Google search lead me to David Freidberg. I was 23 when this situation occurred. I was coming home after a graveyard shift to find my daughter awake at 5 in the morning with her mother and a man I had never met inside my home. Drugs on the table and both of them belligerently drunk. The stranger made threatening advances and one thing led to another and I ended up fearing for my life and shooting him twice. I have never found myself in any serious legal trouble before this incident but I was later charged with 2 felonies (assault with a deadly weapon, intent to terrorize). I had one and only one offer for the majority of 4 years. The court's offer was flat out 7 years in prison.
The situation being as serious as it was I knew I needed the best lawyer by my side regardless of charge or distance. I spent many hours scouring reviews and online results of every local lawyer in Bakersfield and Mark definitely stood out from the crowd. Results don't lie and Mark's price wasn't any more than any other lawyer of his caliber. I knew from our very first meeting that I had made a great choice and instantly retained him, and so our 4 year journey began.
Mark's a master of his craft and knows all the ins and outs of the court system. My case was dragged on for four years in my favor. With COVID-19 all major courts processes were slowed down for nearly two years. I believe this case was not a race but a slow and steady marathon. Although you may want your case done as quickly as possible, which can certainly happen.. I felt Mark's ability to drag my case out until the perfect timing was a game changer. Some lawyers want to get you in and out and wipe their hands clean of your case, but Mark was willing to stay patient and diligent and work with me long term which I greatly appreciated. His staff was always helpful and informative through the whole process. There were no hidden fees or agendas and they always made me feel confident in everything they helped with.
Fast forward to just a few weeks ago and my prayers have been answered. The day before trial was set I accepted a miraculous new offer which I was so happy to accept. Mark's work paid off and he was able to get the DA to offer me NO FELONIES, 1 MISDEMEANOR ASSAULT THAT WILL BE DISMISSED WITHIN A YEAR. This means I was put in a horrible situation that I felt I needed to use deadly force and I shot someone, got charged with 2 major felonies, was facing 7 years in prison, and Mark somehow got me sentenced with the same charge as someone could receive for a street fight!
If you're reading this, look no further. When you are dealing with your life on the line you don't have any room to leave this up for chance. You need a strong, experienced, reputable lawyer, who will stay by your side no matter how long it takes and will give you the confidence and relief you need during your difficult times.

Bard Weinstein is the man! He truly cared about my case and my freedom. The state was not coming off a year in DOC, until I called Mr Weinstein! Byron got my first offense DUI closed and essentially all I had to do was pay a $500 fine no other punishments. And I didn’t even have to show up in person to court. The judge was super easy on me because Byron set me up to have all the requirement finished prior to the hearing.
Overall an amazing experience, Bryon was extremely helpful, friendly and always available over the phone.

Byron went above and beyond my expectations. This was my very first time dealing with a criminal case and as such knew absolutely nothing. The PD’s office did the least possible to explain or help us understand the ins and outs regarding my nephews charges/case. Byron spent over an hour on a Friday night explaining things in detail and making sure I understood what he was explaining. Although Byron was unable to directly represent us in this case, he directed me to a very good known lawyer for further assistance.
This dude is legit hilarious and tells you stories to empathize as well as to help you understand what he is explaining. As we know all the legal mumbo jumbo can get confusing without the proper education.
I have no doubt Byron would have been an amazing person to represent us. Unfortunately, we reached out a bit too late.

I reached out to Kelly regarding my wrongful conviction for domestic violence which was preventing me from owning/possessing a fire. If it wasn’t for my love of hunting specifically with my dad I probably would’ve gone on with my life but instead I explained my situation to Kelly, she sounded positive about restoring my rights. I hired Robb after having 2 prior attorneys for a highly contested custody matter. Robb took my case on a fairly short notice and immediately got to work. My case had several layers that had to be peeled back and was complex to say the least. Robb was able to get up to speed very quickly on the facts of the case as well as my concerns surrounding the matter. Robb was always prepared for any motions that had to be heard as well as during the trial which was a seven day trial. This review is a long time coming. I've worked with and relied on Shannon on three separate occasions over custody disputes of my eldest daughter. On all three occasions she was able to improve my situation and on two of those occasions where my situation was improved, I was on defense where I was the one that got served papers.
I believe that Shannon's prowess as an attorney actually comes from her compassion for her clients. She really does take the time to listen to and understand the unique situations that each case brings and understand and empathize with the situation. We had our child via surrogate; however, during the height of covid the number of guests in the hospital was limited. Our gestational carrier agreement was in another state and our child was birth in TX. The hospital couldn't do anything to help us and the birth mother was listed as the mother on the birth certificate. To have this change to my name was a challenge. I was arrested for manufacturing a dangerous drug MDMA greater than 400 grams. It was 4 probes one for the MDMA and one for the money laundering all over the world 130 people were arrested in
16 us cities and Canada , and charged with the RICO Act. They gave me 490 months. I paid Chuck for my appeal. The only thing holding my part of the RICO was the manufacturing of the ecstasy as I was the only Chemist producing (allegedly) one million five hundred thousand pills daily. Mr. Johnson did a investigation from all angles and found the search warrant they used to find the only piece of evidence was a plain sight warrant and on video you could clearly see them remove part of a wall to get to the 5 Rubbermaid storage containers that were all full of MDMA powder unpressed. This proved Illegal search and siezure and I walked away a free man.

In which I got myself involved in and because of being a naïve person that I am wants to help everybody. I fell into a very very detrimental situation that seemed impossible to get out of. With that being said, and a short version of a long story. I was doing a favor to help two people out not getting any compensation in return. I had gotten myself in the most detrimental situation I could have ever imagined I would’ve ever faced in my lifetime. I did not realize at the time the crime that I had committed was a serious felony and I was facing 10 to life. There was no part of me that ever wanted to meet Jody or Anna. None! As a 20 year marriage was ending I started asking around for names of attorneys. I didn't have a clue where to start. But, there was one firm that came up several times from people I trusted - Stahancyk, Kent and Hook. I consulted with several firms before SKH and saved them for last. The old adage, save the best for last? Ask Jody or Anna their theory on how you capture a monkey. Hilarious and and so wise. It was at that story, I said... Yes, they are the total for me. They KNOW the law. But, more important that that - THEY UNDERSTAND PEOPLE!
By the grace of God I didn't need near as much representation as I thought I would. It was peaceful. From the very beginning Anna Friedhoff spoke candidly and truthfully with me. There were several times she needed to remind that I hired her because she is the professional. I am a strong woman and wanted to run the show. Oopsy! She gently but firmly guided me through it. When it became apparent the divorce was going to be amicable she saved me tens of thousand of dollars in fees. I bullet pointed out what I need/wanted. She drafted, we went back and forth with a few revisions. I even received a refund on my retainer fee!!!
I hesitate to mention the swiftness of my divorce as I am fully aware it is not a normal pace. I’m giving Anna Friedhoff 5 stars as a divorce attorney, only because I can’t give 6 stars. Anna is the best attorney in Oregon, and if you’re in the unfortunate position of divorce, she needs to be your first and only call.
Anna is an absolute MONSTER of an attorney. She is brilliant, passionate, aggressive, and an all around badass. If anything else, simply hire her to ensure she’s never looking at you from the other side of the courtroom. I promise you, the last name you want to see on the opposing counsel team is Anna Friedhoff.
While we dealt with Covid, and unexpected delays, Anna never took her eyes off the prize. She fought for me and she won every single motion we entered into. Hiring Anna Friedhoff as my divorce attorney was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life.

It was crazy how we met. Todd was an appointed attorney on my son's case and before I got to meet him in person. I had a client of his come into my non-profit organization to do court ordered community service. The client asked if I could fax over my information to his lawyer to show where he would be doing his community service hours at and duties. When I asked for his attorney information, the client said Todd Leventhal and I said WOW we was just appointed him as counsel for my son however we haven't met yet. What a small world. Needless to say, we finally met Mr Leventhal in person and he was very professional, told us straight up about my son's case and advised us on what way he was going to represent him and what we should expect. Todd didn't sugar code anything, he was straight forward and delivered on what he said he was going to do. Todd arranged a plea deal that made it possible for my son to be able to come home and be with his family. My son was facing 27 years to life and Todd had him out in less than 5 years. My son is now working and finishing his classes to earn a certificate in welding. If you are looking for an attorney that is a realist and keeps it real. After firing my first attorney who literally took my 10K retainer and advised me to "plead guilty, sell your house and move," boy am I glad I stumbled across Mr. Klein. I didn't know about AVVO at the time, but real client reviews are probably the best way to judge a potential attorney.
By the time I hired Mr. Klein on several convoluted and grossly exaggerated matters that had ballooned out of hand, which included OOP and VOOP, he was able to get the OOP vacated and VOOPs dismissed, which seemed initially like an impossible task, especially since the original attorney bungled the case so badly and several months had elapsed.
In the end, I received court supervision for one separate case, with all others dismissed.
About Mr. Klein's style: He's a great communicator. Available, responsive, patient, and explains things in detail (and many of the details can easily get confusing). Sometimes he gets gruff or short when he is in the middle of fighting hard for your case, so trust that he is placing his energy where it needs to go and will get back to you later to explain the finer details.
A word about pricing: A friend advised me, be wary of attorneys who charge you by the hour, because you can't really know how much time they have actually spent on the case. I found this out the hard way, when my original attorney kept over 3K of my original retainer, after doing pretty much nothing on my cases. Mr. Klein in contrast offered transparent pricing, telling me exactly what his cost was for each matter in full, and additional fees if the case went to bench trial vs. jury trial (it didn't.)
If you have any pending criminal matter and need a great attorney, I unequivocally recommend Steve Klein!
