In my profession I am encountering lawyers on a weekly basis. While I have not developed a formal system for rating lawyers, it has become readily apparent that all lawyers are not created equal. My decision to choose Dan Blake as my Corporate Attorney nearly 19 years ago has proven to be one of my most brilliant business decisions. His analysis and input has been invaluable and his support has been unwavering through the years. I reccomend Dan Blake on a regular basis with complete confidence and he has never failed to meet client expectations.

I have personally used Attorney Dan Blake in several areas over the past several years and have referred him to numerous friends and business associates. His work for me has included estate planning, estate administration/probate, purchase and sale of real estate, and a variety of business related matters. Let me briefly highlight a couple of these engagements and my impressions of Dan as it relates to them. I was asked to be trustee/executor of a friend’s multi-million dollar estate. He unfortunately had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had a very short time to live. He wished to leave his entire estate in trust to benefit two friends since he was not close to his living relatives - a half sister and several cousins. The estate was complicated involving six real estate properties, an extensive antique collection, numerous bank accounts and liquid investments, and an antique car collection. The trust was also complicated and included all necessary provisions for the support and care of the beneficiaries. Because time was short (less than 2 weeks), Dan provided quick turn around on drafting the will, setting up a trust, and transferring. Great care was taken so the will could not be contested. Upon my friend’s death, Dan oversaw the settling of the estate via probate and his office administered the trust for me as trustee. Reflecting back, I was amazed at how smoothly things went, especially considering the potential for serious problems. I feel this was largely due to Dan’s personal commitment to make sure things were done right from the start. Dan also set up an investment LLC for me. Its structure included numerous special considerations. For example equity interest in the LLC’s investments varied from one partner to another since it was based not only upon their initial capital contribution but also their degree of active participation in the investment. There were several other special requirements, which Dan was able to craft into its structure. I feel his knowledge of the area, enabled me to efficiently and economically create a custom LLC that perfectly matched my needs. On occasion I have needed to slightly modify the LLC because of alterations to our business strategy. Dan has been able to rapidly make these changes, which I again attribute to his keeping abreast of current thinking and laws in this area. As I indicated earlier, I have personally used Dan in several other areas including my family’s personal estate planning, sale of one of my businesses, and purchase and sale of several real estate properties. In each case I have found him very knowledgeable and efficient in the way he approached each assignment. He was comfortable providing a cost estimate for his work and I did not experienced any surprises in the final bill. I also feel his prices were fair. He took great pride in his work and when necessary took time to educate me on various approaches or options. Have have worked with numerous lawyers over the years and I definitely put him at the top of the list. That is why I continue to use him personally and also refer him to both friends and business associates.

I ran into financial trouble a few years back and was so scared I was going to lose my house. I had no knowledge of the bankruptcy process, didn’t know what to expect, and was scared to lose everything. (not to mention the embarrassment). I hired Kate Nicholson and I’m so glad I did. First of all, she made the process so easy for me. She explained everything in terms that I could understand and calmed me down when I panicked a little. She is extremely knowledgeable about the process and I felt “safe” with her in charge. I really felt like Kate genuinely cared about my case and worked hard to get the best outcome for me. My outcome was so much better than I expected and I think Kate was almost (if not as) happy as I was.

Thank God i found Kate Nicholson when i was at a point in my life i never thought i'd be. I was behind in my mortgage payments and getting no help from my bank. I contacted Kate and she told me exactly what i needed to do, who to call and especially not to panic. She always got back to me if i had questions and never seemed aggravated that i had so many. I was referred to Lindsay by a mediator who felt the litigation route was my best bet. Divorce is a terrible thing even when it's the right choice. I was beyond anxious to begin the process, but Lindsay made me feel comfortable, understood and supported the entire time.

I recently had a situation that I sought legal advice for. I reached out to Lindsey to set up a time to discuss. I was able to have a call with her the very same day I reached out! About a year ago, my wife and I purchased our first home - a new construction condo. When it came time to choose a lawyer for the closing on our side, the builder pushed us towards a specific individual. This made us uneasy, so we did some research and instead chose Michael Khoury. This ended up being a fantastic decision. He went over and above even the highest expectations, combing through every word of the closing documents and having multiple calls to walk us through it. Upon realizing that there were a multitude of portions of the closing documents which were detrimental to our interests, Michael expertly negotiated with the builder to change the language of some of this parts and to completely remove others. In addition, when there was in issue with a portion of the property not meeting the agreed upon specifications, he delayed closing and also obtained a small amount of money for us from the builder as recompense once we realized the issue couldn't be fully corrected. To top it all off, when we had an issue finding care for our dog on the day of the closing, he let us bring her into the office with us! This all doesn't even mention his paralagel, Nancy, who was amazing to deal with - quick to respond to all of our inquiries, extremely nice, and amazingly knowledgeable. I can't recommend using Michael vehemently enough - he is a genuine, hard-working, and knowledgeable attorney who sincerely cares about his clients. If you need a lawyer in his areas of practice, you won't be able to find anyone better!

I am a business man dealing with the public for over fifteen years, and I can honestly that it took me some time within those years to figure out how to keep my customers happy. I can't say I have any experience working with this firm, but I had a problem having to do with a building lien which my attorney (who does not work for Madoff and Khoury LLP) couldn't handle. I needed another more experienced attorney's expertise. After speaking to a member of the staff at this company, they connected me to a gentleman named David Madoff. Mr Madoff, after speaking to me for three minutes asked me to call the attorney I was using before and have him call Madoff & Khoury so David can coach him on what to do. I am amazed and shocked that an attorney would take the time to do such a gracious thing. I believe that any "decent" business can give good service, but it takes a special business (or person representing a business) to shine or go above "decent", and that can only be done when something goes wrong in a transaction, or when there is an emergency. I called Madoff and Khoury because something went wrong with another attorney (out of Boston) which created an emergency situation involving a deadline court date (on a holiday weekend). Mr. Madoff took the time to help me when it wasn't even his problem. I can't be more honored and pleased to be able to witness and experience first hand, within five minutes time such high CHARACTER in any type of business. I'm so glad I made the call.

Attorney Jerome was the arbitrator for my recent case. I was nervous about the hearing, but he put me at ease immediately - what a nice guy! Hether started working with my attorney at about the two year mark of a length dispute over an estate. She is very easy to communicate with and clearly explains what is going on. She is supportive in her suggestions for appropriate action and responds quickly to questions. I think her skill as communicator is very helpful when you are in the midst of an emotional situation.

Carla is kind, professional, and smart. She helped me get out of my bad marriage during the height of covid with grace and intelligence. She was absolutely a rock when they tried to pull some shady things, like stealing all my stimulus checks and trying to make me share my husbands extremely high credit card debt. The opposing lawyer started screaming during one of our Zoom meetings and Carla was absolutely cool as a cucumber. I got my stimulus money back and I did not have to take on paying back his CC debt. Carla was recommended to me by a friend and I definitely have recommended her to others! Thank you Carla!

I hired Carla Halpern to assist me with a no contest divorce. She was clear about what to expect, made the process much less petrifying than I'd thought possible, and I felt confident with her on my side. We experienced a complication when my ex moved to Asia and failed on a part of his divorce obligations. Without leverage to work with in terms of international law, Ms. Halpern deftly managed to help me get him to make good on those obligations. A lawyer who can hold somebody to account from 8,000 miles away is impressive. Never underestimate the skills required for that. Needing a lawyer is seldom fun, but if/when you do need one, you can count on Carla Halpern as an invested team member on your behalf. She's compassionate, fair, and authentic. Attorney Ed Ritchie is a wonderul attorney!!! In 2012, my wife and I were referred to Mr. Ritchie for Family Court here in Southern New England. I was a young single mom arguing against a man with unlimited money. I was represented a couple times by welfare lawyers and it turned out real bad. I went straight to the Registrar of Probate and asked him to recommend to me the best probate lawyer he knew. He replied Melissa Whish. She's young but has enough degrees to be a judge, she's very smart, and the judges love her. I met with her and all I can tell you is that she mopped the floor with every attorney my ex could come up with. She was so good, my ex brother-in-law hired her for his own divorce a few years later!

Hired Atty Schonland to fight a traffic ticket where the State Trooper charged me with 3 different violations -- speeding, improper lane change, and improper passing. I was doing about 90. I paid my fee by credit card online, and heard nothing at all other than the attorney would be there for the hearing. I was sweating, but he showed up. His appearance wasn't that polished, but what a great advocate! He obviously knew what he was doing -- said he had represented truckers consistently in vehicle matters. State cops were not about to let any of the charges go until the Atty started saying that we'd appeal, and that I had a witness that would testify that I wasn't speeding (my girlfriend was in the car) and he questioned the radar gun. He was very impressive. They dropped 2 of 3 charges, and reduced the speeding to the minimum speeding ticket. Well worth having him there and I'd hire him again for matters like this.

Atty. Schonland provided me with defense of a speeding ticket. From the initial phone conversation it was clear that Atty. Schonland is knowledgeable and experienced with the law for this area. Atty. Schonland represented me at the clerk magistrate’s hearing and had a well prepared motion that referenced the facts and the law. The magistrate found against me but Atty. Schonland made all of the necessary arguments and it was clear that nothing would have convinced the magistrate that it was even possible I was not guilty. Atty. Schonland explained the pros and cons of the appeal to me and even encouraged me to settle, which of course would have meant less business for him. I decided to appeal. Atty. Schonland brought the motion to the appeal which was based on the facts and a little known law that he was aware of called the “No fix” law. The judge had no choice but to either grant the motion Atty. Schonland had prepared or ignore the law. Our motion was granted and thus I am in the clear. The outcome is that there is no fine and no points on my driving record. I am very pleased with Atty. Schonland.

Ann acted as the mediator in my divorce. She was very helpful in letting us both know what to expect from the process. Michael was wonderful! He is knowledgeable, down to earth, and mellow. He was exactly what I needed to keep me grounded through my divorce with my high conflict ex. He called me within couple of hours of my online application and talked to me for about half an hour about my severance package that was offer about my employer. He gave me good useful hint without charging me. Anyone looking for a divorce lawyer is probably not in a situation that they ever hoped to find themselves.. the process is not easy and is definitely uncomfortable. That being said having a good legal representation is critical. Being able to talk to someone you trust and you know has your best interests at hand is not only welcome but can bring comfort. Nothing about divorce is easy and everyone thinks they are an expert. However Sarah and the people at NextPhase are. I am thankful that I chose to work with them and Sarah specifically.
